Very disappointed at the first room allocated. At this hotel ensuite does not mean what it says i.e. no toilet only a shower standing in the corner of the room with toilet way down the corridor. If you want full en suite facilities they have a policy of charging you an aditional 35 when you arrive to "upgrade". When I complained the manger was most unhelpful however the customer service team at Laterooms resolved the situation although this did take nearly 3 hours to sort out.

I loved my room and the en suite...
I loved my room and the en suite facilities were excellent-splendid shower etc.. (by the way, the new sink had a fine but extensive crack in it) . A lovely building, very conveniently placed for my needs, and I felt very safe. I believe that with a standard room you have to share a lavatory, so beware if you want the full en-suite: -make sure that's what you book. The rate was reduced because it was Late Rooms, so the value, by London standards was good. Breakfast was good and service was good with friendly and helpful staff who really put in the effort.
On the down side I stayed on the hottest nights of the year and the lack of air conditioning was a real pain, which is why I have only rated the room a 4 in spite of it being very spacious and gracious. Finally I slept in the buff under a wet bath towel, which was bone dry by morning. The fan provided was noisy and inefficient for a room with such high ceilings. I suspect it generated more heat, as it laboured away, than it actually disseminated. They would do well to just fit the rooms with a conventional big blade fan. Also, one of the sash windows is broken, and although the concierge was very helpful in trying to raise the window and keep it in position, the fact remains that the sash is broken and needs to be replaced asap before someone's head is guillotined. The great dilemma was :suffocate from the heat, or open the one functional window and stay awake all night listening to traffic. (I admit to being unused to the constant noise of a big city).
The other minor irritation was the excessive tariff for internet facilities. I know how much a broad band contract is per month and this hotel must be covering that at least ten times over in the average month, which is a rip off. Also, the system is clunky and completely failed to work on the occasion that I needed to use it, although staff did tell me I could go over the road to one of their other hotels.
All in all I would go back because it was a lovely place to be, but not at the height of summer and I would specifically ask for an en suite with a garden view, (which is generally not possible on Late Rooms) and would require a phone call. I would recommend this hotel, bearing in mind the provisos above.

A lovely little hotel, beautiful rooms, lovely bathrooms - everything that you would need. No where to park unfortunately, breakfast was not included in the 94 room charge and would've cost us 17 each if we had wanted to eat there - a bit pricey!
But overall very nice, would recommend it not just because it was smart, clean and comfortable; but also because it so ideally situated right in the heart of London.

Whilst the hotel is well located and overall met reasonable standards I would not book it
again. The room appeared clean and had a shower and sink but amazingly no en suite toilet. On checking my booking I found I had booked a standard room which begs the question - what is a standard room? I felt strongly that this room (and possibly others like it) was kept specifically for late deals as I cannot envisage anyone being happy with paying the advertised normal rate for this accommodation.
The communal toilets appeared to be also for public use as they were signposted from the front door which as I was travelling alone, I found concering. The standard of cleanliness in the toilets was poor with dust behind the door and cobwebs in corners. Finally there was no opportunity to leave comments as no feedback form was in the room, perhaps understandably.

Really nice atmosphere & staff. Only downsides were lack of an en-suite loo (you do get a shower & basin) and of a lift - make sure you're not on the 3rd floor if you've got a dodgy ticker! As the shower is within the bedroom, the room wouldn't be ideal for friends sharing. Great location though.

Not having an ensuite is a huge inconvenience...
Not having an ensuite is a huge inconvenience, but one some people will be prepared to put up with because of the price.
Whereas most hotels are happy, after taking credit card details, to let visitors pay on departure, this is not the case here, and the staff became extremely agitated when I suggested I pay on departure. They said it's hotel policy for everyone to pay up front. When I requested I see the room first (because I've had bad experiences in the past and would rather pay a cancellation fee than stay in some places), the receptionist waited approximately 2 minutes before calling my room and when I didn't pick up the phone, sent someone to knock on my door and ask me to pay. I found this extremely rude and I've never experienced anything like this, even at cheap hotels. If I had had somewhere else to stay, I would have left on the spot. Although most of the staff were friendly, this experience left a bad taste in my mouth. This whole policy ends up making the establishment look money-hungry--no one appreciates being hounded like this and the owner/manager should re-think how he's training his employees. I don't need to be made to feel like a theif because I've asked to view a room.

I booked three weeks ago and selected the hotel as close as possible to the best bus stop for my business venue.
When I arrived, hot, tired and anxious to rest before an evening function, I was greeted by the receptionist who did not have any details for me.
After about 30 minutes, she sent me to another hotel in the group some streets away, where I was initially asked to pay considerably more than the booked price - admittedly for slightly better facilities but next to the lift shaft! After a brief discussion, the manager agreed to the original price.

Very cosy room, clean and nicely furnished. Plus points would be friendliness and helpfulness of staff, some nice touches in room such as fluffy towels, heavy drapes, complimentary toiletries and soap, efficient shower. Toilet was just a few steps away down corridor, shower and washbasin in room, quite noisy but most of central London is so, nice to have Russell Square and other gardens close by, only 10 minute walk to Tottenham Court Road and West End, all round positive experience.

In short the Lancaster Hotel was very disappointing... it claimed it charged a normal rate of 150 for a room per night and I got it for the bargain price of 66 on late rooms. I use late rooms often, and normally I get good value, but with the Lancaster I don not believe I did. Although the room I stayed in was large, clean and well furnished it was NOT on suite, I had to travel along the corridor to go to the loo... this is not a 3 star experience. Often not even 2 star!!! On top of this the tv had no film channels and was of poor quality. And get this their breakfast prices were extortionate... 17.something for a continental breakfast and a full English was over 20!!!! The hotel clearly holds it's guests with little regard charging prices like these when they don't even have fully en-suite rooms!!!
We were very pleasantly surprised. The hotel looks good, is in a great location for what we needed, the bed was comfortable, room temperature just right and although we had expected to have a shared toilet, we found we were given an en-suite room. Not huge but perfectly good enough. It was a little noisy but I live in the country so anything in a city would be noisy! Not so bad that it kept me awake however. I would definitely go back and would recommend it to anyone.

Nice toiletries and the courtesy newspaper was most welcome. Good shower and lots of hot water when I wanted it. Breakfast at 17.50 must make it one of Londons most expensive. The advertised rack rates are just daft. At 55 it was ok value.

The description on laterooms did not make it clear to me that this hotel was really an upmarket guest house. The shower and sink are literally in the room, not en-suite. The toilet is shared with other rooms and at the bottom of the landing.
The hotel is quite new and so it was very clean, this was the only consolation so I hope they keep on top of the cleansiness else we'd have never even stayed.
We wanted a hotel under 100 and when I found this I thought I'd found a bargain. I have stayed in much better hotels for similar money and was mortified when I saw the shared and very basic facilities. How they can charge 95 for a room I do not know. I have stayed with this hotel chain before which had its own ensuite bathroom and included breakfast for 85 a room!
Laterooms need to make the description clearer as to what facilities you really get with this hotel.
Also no lift and we were on the 3rd floor with luggage and no offer of assistance.
Pay a bit extra and go to at least a 4* in future and maybe somewhere more central so you don't pay out a small fortune on taxis.

When I gave a call to your call centre to book a room in this hotel, the customer service guy confirmed me that there was internet access in the rooms.
At my big surprise, when i reached the hotel, the people working at the hotel told me that it was not the case. So I stayed only one night instead of two... I will never go back to this hotel again just because of that, especially because i go to London for business reason and i need internet access in the room... even if the room quality and location is perfect.

We were dissapointed on two fronts: Firstly;-the room was described by reception as "semi-en-suite", with shower & sink no WC; Secondly; - it was at the top of the hotel (3/4 flights) with no lift. Both LateRooms and the hotel description were simply mis-leading - as the WHO would say - "we wont be fooled again"

I didn't like the room at the shower was in the corner of the room rather than a seperate room (i.e. you stepped out of the shower onto the carpet in the room). It also had no toilet in the room... its a while since I had to go down the halwaay to use the toilet.

I was dismayed to find that I did not have a bathroom in my room (shared toilet facitities down the corridor) and instead a shower cubicle in the corner of the room. I could have watched the TV whilst showering, if the TV was working. It was also a very noisy room with a fairly busy road outside, there was no secure baggage area and my room could have done with a spring clean. However the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

The hotel was good but the totally unhelpful men on reception marred my stay...i'd travelled all night from San Francisco and they didn't even offer help with my luggage and watched as i had to make 2 journeys up 2 flights of stairs as there is no lift. One of them had made a big issue of letting me in my room before 2 p.m. even thought it turned out to be ready.

Very pleasant hotel, would definitely stay here again. Well furnished room, tea and coffee facilities, comfy bed, well lit corridors, cosy atmosphere. Receptionists could be more friendly and welcoming, but they were professional and efficient.

A bit of an odd hotel this - Looking at photos of this hotel and passing it in the street, it looks like a mini 5* with immaculate decor and staff and I was suprised at the rate being so low so I decided to book for 1 night to give it a go. The downside of the hotel is that my room (and others) do not have a toilet in the room. In fact my room was nothing more than a bedroom with a shower cubicle in the corner of the room. However, the room, shower and sink were very nicely put together and was nicely decorated. Although the windows aren't double glazed the curtains are so thick there's practically no noise so I slept very well.
In the morning, breakfast was served in an immaculate resautant and I could not fault it.
Very good value for money - I think - if you don't mind a very clean but odd room.

Hotel is reasonably small in a street of other hotels. Quality a slight notch above Travelodge type hotels - room is good, good sized, desk okay, and bed was comfortable. My room did not have a separate bathroom and had shower cabinet as part of the wall, so something to check if important for you (I prefer ensuite, otherwise would stay there again at 60-70). Restaurants not actually at the hotel, only breakfast, they refer you to the hotel next door. No minibar/cable. Ditto for internet access - note internet access not working while I was there, only one computer and insanely expensive (10 per hour??). A traditional style hotel, top notch a few years ago, now just an okay alternative. Friendly, polite and helpful staff.

very large room, high ceilings and ensuite bath. Faced back, so very quiet as well. Quite clean and well cared for. Staff were friendly and courteous tho some may not have had a lot of local knowledge. Some desk staff worked hard to find us places, get directions, etc. Very helpful. Breakfast was okay. A 5-min walk to Russell Sq tube, but we discovered that it was just a 15-20 min walk to Leicester Square. One block Brit Musuem. Some restaurants near but not on the same street. No internet access - tho you could use the PC at hotel across the street. (The hotel group seems to own several twonhomes on Bedford Place.) We were VERY pleased with the Lancaster and highly recommend.

I asked for a quiet room, and was given a room in the lower ground floor, number 8. Luxurious, and clearly recently done out. Very spacious. I stayed by myself for business, but my husband with kids stayed a few weeks earlier. They recommended it to me, althogh their room was more basic, but very pleasant. Nice Georgian features, without being too standard. Very convenient for British Museum and the musical 'we will rock you'. I will go out of my way to stay here again.

A ten-minute walk to theatre-land and convenient for the underground. Reasonably quiet road. En-suite double room was very good size. Somewhat spoiled by rattling from air-conditioning in the bathroom (audible at night from in bed), and really annoying creaking of floor above so you heard every foostep. Quite OK for the Laterooms price.

The room was very small compared to one we had previously stayed at over the road the previous year. The stay was enjoyable other than the last day in which we had asked for a taxi to be booked for us to return to the station. The receptionist booked a private car and when we got to the station he wanted to charge us over 3 times what we had paid in a black cab to get to the hotel from the station. We eventually settled a price but not without effort. This left a bad impression of the service as it was not what was asked for.

Clean, comfortable, and staff efficient. Room small but very nicely furnished. Continental breakfast was outstanding, a wide variety of food on offer, on an "eat as much as you like" basis, far better than most hotels offer for a continental breakfast. Bedroom did not have its own toilet, but I was aware of that in advance. Everything worked as it should do. Radio 4 NOT provided in bedroom so I had to watch breakfast TV which is a small black mark on an otherwise good experience.

The room was very well presented and clean. Even though there was no ensuite bathroom in the room the shower was more than adequate and there was no problem using the shared toilets which were clean and well equipped. The staff were friendly and efficient and smartly dressed.
Continental breakfast was served in a very smartly presented dining room, and
food was above average.
I would highly reccomend this hotel to anyone looking for reasonably priced but classy accomodation near to the West End and all its facilities.
