I booked the hotel based on previous reviews...
I booked the hotel based on previous reviews. It was a very last minute booking and I was looking for something as cheap as possible but decent. The location is great, set within a georgian crescent with a few nice bars and restaurants nearby. The hotel itself is one of many townhouses within the crescent. I'm quite dubious about independent star rating so I wasn't expecting this hotel to match the more well known 3 star hotels like Jurys, Holiday Inn, Ibis etc. Good job. The room itself was absolutely tiny. I booked a single room which had enough space for a single bed, wardrobe, dresser and sink. I opted for a cheaper room so there was a shared bathroom which was kept well. I was conscious of the noise coming the other rooms along the corridor. I could hear tv sets from rooms a few doors up but luckily no late night tv watchers! The room was clean and included 2 towels and toilettries. The decor in the room was pretty bad. The wallpaper was a bit stained and the furniture was bordering on retro. My room looked onto the crescent and there was a bit a noise coming from traffic and people during the night but bearable. Breakfast was actually pretty good and you can have seconds if you are still hungary. The staff serving were really nice. While I was initially disappointed with the hotel, for the location and the amount you pay it's pretty good value. The other guests seemed nice, mostly older tourists or business travellers. I recommend the hotel to anyone on a tight budget who needs somewhere central and in a safe area.

Cheap, good value, covered the basics sorta. Friendly receptionists. Good view from window, overlooking leafy tennis courts from cramped room. However, cheap tacky furniture and communal bathroom was worn and bare, with no mats nor toilet roll! Didn't feel like a guest at breakfast, just bumping around strangers and a maid in an overcrowded, cramped dining room, didn't get greeted by anyone.

At for a twin room in Central London...
At 68 for a twin room in Central London, you can't ask too much. What I got for the money was a room in the basement, no ensuite and a slow-draining sink. There was a constant sound of running water from somewhere outside, but if you closed your eyes you could almost imagine it to be a babbling mountain brook! On the plus-side, the room was clean, there was a small flat-screen TV with Freeview and the breakfast was excellent - a la carte full English.
The shared shower and toilet was very small - even I at 5'8" could have banged my head on the ceiling if I'd jumped slightly, but it worked well and got me clean.

The George Hotel is incredibly well located and if you are just after a bed for the night it is perfectly adequate. Communal bathrooms were spotlessly clean but the sink in my room could have done with a bit of extra wiping out. Small room to be expected but not too cramped, didn't use the free wifi and can't comment too much about the breakfast as I'm not a fan of cooked brekkie, but cereal selection was adequate. The staff were very friendly and happy to store left luggage while you sightsee.
If you've never backpacked before and hate the thought of communal bathrooms this might not be the place for you, but if you are realistic in your expectations and unable to afford the insane prices of most London hotels then this is a bargain.

The George Hotel provided me with exactly what I was looking for - a cheap, no fuss convenient hotel where I could dump my bags, go out for a party in London, come back to sleep, and leave early in the morning. Did the job just fine. Nice friendly girl on at reception, checking in very quickly, and nice clear instructions on the night entrance and breakfast serving times. Contrary to other review, I didnt find the hotel noisy at all - no noisy residents or passers by. The room was small, and the furniture and fittings were dated - pretty much what you would expect for the lovely price of 45 for a night. If you just want somewhere cheap to crash for the night, this place will do nicely. Would stay again. Left before breakfast, so cant comment on the food.

I would suggest to the hotel that they let anyone wishing to book know that there are three floors and NO lift. We were placed at the top of the hotel, and had I known I would haver requested a room lower down as we struggled each time with the number of stairs [5 flights some on very narrow stairways]. The bathroom was out of order on our floor which made keeping clean more of a bother, and there didn't seem to be any attempt to fix it while we were there. The food was fine and plenty of it at breakfast, however again I would say I would have let guests know that there was limiting seating and there could be a wait for breakfast, we fortunately weren't in a hurry so it didn't affect us personally.

Working in the travel business I get to stay at a variety of star rated accomodation over the world and I would definitely reccommend this to anyone who is staying in a top city on a budget. The outside is very pretty and has character, the inside very basic, a little old fashioned decorated but most importantly clean and the staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was ample and if you are still hungry you can order more so they really try to look after you! The area is Bloombury which is a 5 minute walk from Kings Cross which I was dubious about but once there realised it was in a nice and clean area and very accessible to all the sights within London. Definitely worth the money.

The only redeeeming thing about this hotel was the nice girl in the front office to help us check in... It is convienent to St. Pancras for the Eurostar but it should be a one star hotel. The common bathrooms and showers were Gross and dirty. We didi not even want to take a shower.

I stayed for two nights over the weekend. The hotel is in an excellent location, Kings Cross Station is just a five minute walk away. There are plenty of restaurants and pubs in the area. Covent Garden, Leicester Square, Piccadilly circus are all within a few stops on the tube. The hotel is clean and staff are friendly. Honestly, for the price I paid I was expecting a run down, dirty little place but was very happy with the Hotel.
If you are looking for cheap, no frills accommodation in central London then this is the place. I will definitely be staying here on my next trip to London.

I thought the location was very good and the room was adequate for a one night stay. The shared facilities were clean, which is always a relief. The noise from the next room's TV was annoying and there isn't much sound proofing in these old buildings anyway. Perhaps the hotel should endorse some sort of noise consideration policy in the future as other people have commented on this previously. However, it was a pleasant, short stay.

My check-in experience was pretty much standard for a small central London hotel, but the room experience was dismal. The bed matress was on it's last legs with stained bedding and the chairs were so dirty and damp-looking, that I didn't even want to put my dirty laundry on them. Overall, the room made some of the cheapest student accommodation I've ever seen look good. The missing wallpaper and mould above the kitchen hatch in the breakfast room added to the ambiance. If you do end up booking here. be sure that you pay attention as there are shared bathroom facilities. You could easily get frustrated in the morning if you end up queuing for the shower and you are in a hurry!

I had asked for ensuite and would have paid more for this facility had this been an option.
