We were led to blieve that the room we booked was en-suite only to discover that it was actually shared facilities which were of an extremely poor standard in terms of cleanliness and fittings, the room itself was clean but in serious need of renovation, however on a possative note the staff were very pleasant and helpful and the breakfast was ok as well.

The George in Bloomsbury was just a perfect location for me, only a five-minute walk to the Russell Square tube, great little restaurants all around, five minutes to the British Museum, etc. The front desk was just wonderful, especially since they were dealing with everyone either adding days or cancelling because of the volcano. It was my first time staying in a single room and sharing a bath, and I would definitely stay here again. Great English breakfast as well.

Delightful setting in Georgian crescent, with tennis court at centre. Very quiet area, yet close to British Museum and Euston Station. The setting and nearby streets are full of Bloomsbury character. Service from young staff excellent, nice breakfast. Decor clean but lacking character.

Cheap & cheerful. Staff were helpful and polite. Room was very small & no en-suite (as expected). Breakfast was great. Good for a quick stop over - easy walking from Kings Cross and Euston. Don't expect luxury.

Very impressed by such a good value hotel...
Very impressed by such a good value hotel. The area outside is mainly university student housing, so we felt safe. The buffet breakfast was very well hosted by the ladies there. The room was very full to begin with, which meant having to share tables with strangers, but there seemed to be a reasonable turnover of people - good for us because we took our sweet time with our breakfast! The volume of food available was substantial, with none of us going hungry. Fantastic stuff! The room was perfect for our one-night stay of 3 people (couple and a single) to one room. Windows didn't stay open easily, probably because they're old, but the room was clean, well presented, quiet and had its own sink-mirror for teeth brushing! But we were a little disheartened by the communal bathroom: with only one shower for all those guests, it was quite a state by the time we were up. Having to dance around other people's used towels thrown on the floor as it were their own en suite turned us off showering there. (lucky it was only for one night). I don't know if it was because the people staying were pigs or there was an unwritten assumption that that's the done thing. Yuk, either way. But aside from the shower, the hotel was great value and even a pretty nice central location near the train station (note: the only place we could find a late meal nearby in a hurry was the Pizza chain restaurant).

As long as you know that you have a shared bathroom in an old building you should find great value for money. It's 5 mins from Kings Cross, if you are travelling on your on it's a safe location. Staff are very friendly and helpful. I will be staying there again!

I stayed for 2 nights and wanted a convenient location in the city centre. This hotel (more a B+B really) was good value for money, with rooms that were a nice size and clean. We were able to check in early and leave our bags there after checking out. However, the bathroom was small and ran out of hot water one morning.

Friendly and helpful staff. The room was clean and airy with a folder of helpful information provided. Please be aware that not all rooms have their own bathroom and so you will need to take your "pyjamas" to slip to the bathroom. On the night that we booked the hotel, this point was not clear on the information provided, however this in no way affected our satisfaction with the accommodation. Generous full english breakfast and more toast available on request. Great location just round the corner from Bloomsbury shopping centre and good selection of pubs/restaurants, though with this busy area just round the corner the room was delightfully quiet at night. Hotel literally 10 minutes walk from Euston Station and barely 5 minutes from Russell Square Tube Station, which is on the Picadilly Line and takes you to Leicester Square/Covent Garden in a matter of minutes. We intend going to the George Hotel again and taking the children next time.

Good location 5 minute walk from Russell Square tube station with a variety of restaurants and pubs in walking distance. The room was warm and comfortable although the on suite facility was rather small. The staff were friendly and helpful. Very good breakfast.

Hotel exterior is lovely in a good location, but interior is scruffy and not well renovated which is a shame for such a lovely Georgian building. No lift and I was on the 3rd floor - steep winding steps so only mobile visitors can manage the stairs here.Bit dissappointed to have to wait to be seated for breakfast and then even though tables were free I was forced to share with another couple. There was little room and I felt uncomfortable.

The staff smiled, I know this is a small thing but sometimes the small things mean a lot. They allowed us to leave our bags when we got there early and again when we had to catch a later train. Yes the room was not ensuite but to be honest I never had a problem.

As long as you know that The George is cheap and you are expecting a B&B not a hotel, then you can't go wrong. The staff were very friendly, the breakfast was a full english and included in the price. I had a TV, sink, safe and hairdryer in my room. I couldn't want for more! The water pressure in the shower wasn't great, but it still worked! All in all I would recommend it to my friends and I would stay again.

I recently stayed here for two nights with my partner as i booked through late rooms the double room i requested was not available so we had two single beds pushed together which was not the best start!! It is close to euston and russel square tube station which was very good. The room was very warm, as it is an old building it was very noisy at night and a bit creepy, although it was clean and sheets were changed on the second day of our visit. The shared bathroom was very small and diffcult to move around I did not attempt to use the shower and there was no toilet on the first night!! If you are going to stay in this hotel dont expect to much it is in a good location and if all you need is a bed for the night then it does the job I however will not be returning.

Our stay at the George Hotel was comfortable and the breakfast was very good. The room was a a bit cluttered with furniture and the decor tired, but was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The staff were very polite and helpful. It's in a very good location for the west end of London. I would certainly stay there again but I'd have an ensuite room as the shared bathroom was cold and we often had to wait to use it.

Disappointed to find not en suite and the shower rooom was 6ft tall which when you are 6ft 5 presents one or two challenges. Otherwise dead cheap (£40) and ideal for a night or two. Great location. Easy for Euston and tubes

This was very good value for money. I had a lovely room overlooking the gardens and was very comfortable. I would have preferred for there not to be a shared bathroom arrangement which is the only reason why I have marked the Quality of my room down slightly. Otherwise excellent and staff extremely helpful and friendly.

I had to stay overnight in London for one night, to attend a charity event, so there was no budget for travel, and I wanted to find somewhere clean, cheap and relatively central in London. I can't remember the last time I stayed at a hotel without en suite facilities, so this came as a bit of a shock, plus the fact that the nearest bathroom was out of order, so I found myself nipping to the bathroom wearing my overcoat and nightie!! I have been spoilt I guess. Putting this to one side, the George is absolutely fine for a short stay. My bedroom was like a cabin, with slightly sloping floor, which was a bit disoncerting in the morning ( is it me, or is my floor sloping!!) . But fo the price, I think the hotel does a good job. The staff are helful and friendly and the breakfast home cooked, without being greasy or too huge.

I stayed in a room with shared bathroom facilities, didn't have any trouble getting to use the shower in the morning even though the hotel was fully booked. Staff were friendly, breakfast was good. The room was small and quite basic but it was quiet and clean. I was on the third floor and the stairs were narrow and uneven on the last flight. There is no lift either, so I wouldn't recommend it for people with big suitcases or who have problems with mobility.Decent hotel for the money, and good location for Kings Cross / British Museum / British Library etc etc.
