i had paid for a double room, but clearly when we were allocated it WAS a single room, with a double bed pushed in, we had no room whatsoever to move, when the door was opened, it hit the bed so u had to squeeze out. curtain fell down, but it was put up by staff immediately, no toilet on our floor because it was broken, so hd to climb 3 flights of stairs for the loo and shower. i did complain and we were allocated a new room the following day, which was a lot better, with own shower. so staff did their best to help. overall, not a bad hotel, just disappointed about the first day.

Booked this room for one night only, and one night is all I could of stayed. The room was very dingy, needs a good overall, its not expensive to decorate!. Dirty net curtains, pane of glass broken in the window, very dangerous. There was tea and coffee in the room but the cups were rancid, and had bits broken off them. The room was very noisy as it was at the front and even with secondary double glazing you could hear the noise of traffic outside all night long. The tv in the room needed a good clean and the handset was filthy, I was reluctant to touch it. I was apprehensive about breakfast but it was ok and the dining room was fairly clean, apart from a few splashes of tea stains on the wall.!! The cost was 75.00, not worth it!
I was in room 8 which was long and thin, including walls. A hoover of the room would help, bed sheets clean but poor quality mattress. Road noise is very bad and hence to keep it out the room was too hot. No en-suite and shower room on half landing..........not mentioned it booking details. This is a cheap hotel, but I would imagine that for a few pounds more (above 59) you can a better deal. The Hotel Russell was 175 ex vat so youget what you pay for.

if you are looking for Fawlty Towers, this is the place for you. If looking to make a brew, take an extension lead as wires do not reach plug. Do not go if you are disabled or elderly as we had to climb 70 stairs, more than once per day. Do not stay in the summer as it is like a sauna. Take you own towels as the ones they give you dont fit around you. on a good note, food was very good and staff were quite friendly, when you got to see them. Good location, close to Euston station and a couple of Undergrounds.

Poor. Room very cramped, scruffy and in poor repair. Breakfast also disapppointing: cold coffee, no butter. To be fair, the manager allowed me to cancel the second night's booking without charge, but there is plenty of room for improvement!

I enjoyed staying here. It was a nice size room with the 4 single beds and ensuite, It could do with some hooks on the back of the bathroom door for hanging clothes as the bathroom was tiny. The pictures on all the walls were really interesting - it was nice and clean and the cooking was good. Thanks for minding our luggage for the day. Central to everything. I would stay here again.

I read other peoples' reviews before I went and so dreaded my stay. Instead I was really pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and good breakfast. They should put the doorbell where the staff are working/sleeping, not in the hall where everyone can hear it. The windows needed secondary glazing or draught-sealing. These are minor niggles - I really liked the informality.

the hotel was very shabby and the hotel manager upgraded my room as he felt nobody would be prpeared to stay in the single room in the basement. The room was on the top floor (5th) with no lift or help with luggage. However, the room was filthy, apart from the linen. The TV did not work and the taps did not have tops on. I have stayed on many hotels and this was the poorest quality I have ever stayed in. I had assumed it was ensuite but the toilet was on the landing and not in the room. More information should have been given about the hotel on the website and I would not have booked it. I could not have breakfast as I needed to leave by 7.20 and it did not start until 7.30, which meant I could not even have a bowl of cereal.

Good bed. Good breakfast, therefore good value for London. However, we would have appreciated a TV which worked properly instead of the ancient set provuded Also a can of oil used on the very squeaky doors would not go amiss. It seemed that there was only one shower and a total of 2 toilets for the whole hotel. Would we stay here again? Maybe.

I don't want to complain and i guess you get what you pay for, but for the record, the TV didn't work, nor the light over the wash basin. Hardly thought it worth mentioning to the proprietor, but now you ask i am telling. Can't complain really though for the price. Love the paintings and prints too, it really is like a bizarre art museum or curio shop.

This was a total rip-off. I was in a filthy room with broken furniture (the one chair had only three legs), the breakfast was appalling and I tried to complain but they can't speak in English. The description on your site does not reflect this at all and the price of 135 for one night is the highest rate I have paid and this is without doubt the worst Hotel I have stayed in over recent years.

Management Response
We do appreciate all feedback from guest so we can continue to improve on our services. Good location but directions to hotel poor. Before we went we thought it was a good valued hotel but when you see what you get it was very expensive. We had a double bed squashed into a single room so the door couldn't open fully. Cleanliness was poor. Fortunately the radiator wasn't on as this would have circulated all the dust that had gathered inside the radiator. Had to share a toilet which had no ventilation. Breakfast was ok but the one staff not very friendly.

Great customer service, rooms were tidy and so were bathrooms. My room was functional, isolated from the outer noise and on a good location. TV worked, sheets and bedclothes were clean, as well as the towels, and some basical items were provided. A little bit expensive, but not too much having in count I booked for august. Not a bad price I'd say. Food was great and the waitresses were very caring. I liked it, and I felt very warmly received and well treated by the staff at all times.

Bads: The room was hot overnight; opening a window introduced lots of traffic noise; no 24 hour reception; room was not en-suite and the shared bathroom was along a corridor and down a flight of stairs; no rooms that allow smoking; no table/desk in the room; no internet access.
Goods: you get a key and so can leave and enter at your discretion; full English breakfast included and very well cooked; friendly staff.
Very cheap for the area but once inside you will see why. This place is in desperate need of renovation/redecoration. The beds are uncomfortable, the carpets dirty and extremely old the decor revolting and the noise from the street makes sleep impossible past 5am. The room shakes when someine closes the front door and the walls very thin so you can hear everything!!
Basically, if you are looking for a very cheap hotel relatively near Covent Garden and just want to use the room as a place to get your head down after a night out then it is an acceptable doss. Beyond that, spend a little more money and go elsewhere.

The hotel was in a perfect location for visiting famous places. The reason I chose the Garth Hotel was that it looked very much like English traditional hotel and it was good to find that my room has a lot of character such as an original fire place and pictures. I stayed in many hotels all aroud world which are almost same but I have never come across any hotels which gave taste of their own culture and custome better than Garth hotel. The service and food was good. English breakfast!!

The hotel was ideal for what we needed...
The hotel was ideal for what we needed i.e. to be close to the University College Hospital, where I was to be a day patient. When we arrived we were turned away because it was too early (1.30pm) The person dealing with the booking was inefficient and very unfriendly, although we knew we were early he did not offer us to wait in the dining room even though we explained I had to take some medication requiring me to be near the toilet and that we had travelled over l and a half hours from Sussex. The actual owner came not long after and was much more approachable and offered us to wait in the dining room (we were outside waiting). The staff were unfriendly on our second morning to some other customers who had been waiting for over 15 minutes to get a table for four for breakfast, they were told they had come in too late (15 mins too late!) for any breakfast to be served. We had to point out that they had been waiting for a table. The dining room was much too small for all the guests to have breakfast within such a short timescale. Our bedroom was a single room - approx 3 metres wide, in a long corridor type room, with 2 beds end on. There was hardly any room to get into the room to the window at the end. The toilet facilities had to service three floors of rooms - one separate toilet and one toilet with shower and wash basin. It was cheap, but it was also expensive for what we got. I did not have breakfast on the morning of my operation but no allowance was made for this in the price. I do not wish to recommend this hotel to any friends, even though it was cheap for London because of the reception we received and because of the room which was far too small.

It is clear that this hotel can be booked directly at a far cheaper price than is possible on Laterooms. The price on Laterooms is about twice what would have been achieved on the same night if booked direct. The Lateroom price set an expectation way beyond the facilities provided. At half the price it would have been reasonable value.
