This hotel had a very warm and home-like feeling. It was nothing fancy but it had an original brittish style to it. It was very well worth the low cost for such a good location and service.

The hotel had some flaws, like wardrobe doors which cannot close, but it has a charm. A typical British town house, I believe, with a lot of stairs and small rooms

Although the hotelier was very friendly & helpful, the hotel is run down. Frayed carpets, creaky floorboards. In my room drawer fronts missing, no plug in the sink. I din't use the shower as it looked not very nice. Considering this hotel is the same price per night as a Travelodge, I thought it was very poor. Good location though.

Please don't make the mistake I did and think that the negative reviews of this hotel are people being overly picky. I have never stayed somewhere so completely filthy and with so many things wrong with the room (in addition to the dirt). We left after only one night (were meant to be staying two) and didn't dare try breakfast due to the general squalor of the place. Edited highlights are: dirt and dust everywhere, curtains handing off pole, ripped bedspread, dirty cups, revolting grime in bathroom, furniture falling apart with handles missing, a drawer bottom missing and exposed sharp ends of screws on the outside of furniture. The list is endless. We complained to no avail and only stayed because we were exhausted on arrival. I will be taking this up with the manager, the local council's Envirnomental Health and Trading Standards Depts and, if necessary, the small claims court. I really can't put into words what a deeply horrible hotel this is.

Dont be fooled into thinking the Garth Hotel is a cheap alternative. I left feeling i had been robbed. It is not a quaint family owned hotel..It is without doubt the most horrible hotel i have had the misfortune to stay in. Cramped, dirty and miserable room, with old, dirty and passed-it furniture, stained carpet bed and decoration. Thin and old bedding, cold rooms and no extra blankets apart from a dirty one crumpled at the bottom of a cupboard. shaver light hanging off wall. shelves placed next to the head of the bed ready for smacking head on. Walls so thin i could hear word for word the people in the next room. unhelpful miserable staff. but worst of all was around midnight my room was engulfed with an overpowering eggy sewer drain smell. i could not bare it. i called the number on reception door and was told to help myself to room key for another room and phone was put down on me. . 2nd room almost as bad as first. didnt stay for breakfast or even want to have a shower. Really dire need of money to be spent on this place. if you value your life, dont spend a minute of it at the Garth Hotel.

Fantastic location in terms of transport links. Hotel is one of many on Gower Street. I cant really think of much to say except that I chose to spend as much time as possible out opf the room. It was about 8 foot wide and 20 foot long. Two single beds head to head. Me and my colleague sat and laughed, it was that bad. Shared facilites on the landing one floor down. There was not enough room for me and my coleague to pass each other in the room - we had to sit on the bed to let each other pass. No TV/ radio. Basic facilites. Outdated decor. Dirty. Breakfast room dingy, but ok. Breakfast - dreadful. Fire alarm went off and the fire brigade came out - there was no fire drill and the owners could not tell anyone IF there was a fire or/and where it was. One hotel I was happy to leave.

Very welcoming receptionist, with excellent knowledge of bus route numbers and how to take advantage of local public transport to get around.Unusually, I thought, the hotel reception is in the basement of the hotel. My single room was very small, although appropriately quiet, sited in the basement, but very basic indeed. The room was too small to house a desk or a chair, but to compensate for this there's a breakfast dining room in the basement, which I used during the early evening to work at. The hotel has free WiFi to help in this respect. The receptionist happily made and brought me a hot drink to enjoy whilst I was working in the breakfast room. There is a TV in the room, although no remote control to make life easier, given that the only place to watch TV from was in or on the bed.The room had a hand basin/sink, and a very adequate shower, enclosed within a cubicle. Tea/Coffee making facilities were provided but I didn't use them. The bed was functional and clean, rather than luxurious. The bathroom/WC was rather further from the room than I would have liked. Breakfast was very satisfactory.

Rooms were dirty, crisps (not in packets) in the drawers. Room was tiny, couldn't open door more than half as it hit the bed, 2 shower rooms between 15 bedrooms is a disgrace especially when there's no toilet roll in them. Other guests towels left on the floor, there was peeling paintwork, broken lamps, damaged light-shades, fire-doors that had a big gap under them, surely illegal!! I have pictures if evidence is needed. Tried breakfast but the long black hair in the egg meant we couldn't eat there. Overall, terrible place, avoid!!

This is by far the worst and most horrible hotel I have ever seen. A tiny room with two tiny beds crammed into it. It looked loke a prison cell, not a room. I peeled back the covers to reveal a rust colored stain that looked somebody had been murdered. The plave was filthy and disgusting. DO NOT STAY HERE!

Having read the reviews, before I stayed, but after I had booked, it was with a degree of trepidation I arrived at the hotel. The reserved room on the ground floor suddenly needed anoth £15, which I refused to pay. Floor was loose, no heating at first - very cold night, thin bedding, spare quilt looked filthy, black mould in shower, hot water a bit 'iffy' at first, breakfast was OK, although on a cold plate - I could go on, but if it were down to me, I would not advertise until the place has been cleaned up a bit.

Bed sheets were very clean which was nice but room and en-suite were very badly in need of re-decoration. We arrived to breakfast within the time it was going to be served and were told there was 'no toast' and no more coffee would be made. Another guest was informed there was no bacon. Cooked breakfast was not offered and then guests arriving up to 10 minutes late were given full English breakfast and also more coffee was given to these other guests.

Where do I start? OK I only spent £50 for a room for the night in central London however, if you spend money you still expect a clean room (cobwebs everywhere), you'd still expect the sheets to fit the bed & you'd expect the drains not to smell - you'd probaly also not wish to feel the bed springs through the mattress & you'd wouldn't expect to be hugged by all four corners of said mattress when you dared to get into the bed - you would also expect that the person taking your money the next day to actually speak to you or look like they were fully dressed but then I did only pay £50!Needless to say I felt gubbier leaving than I did arriving!

Lovely and central location but tired decoration, and my single room (which was as small as it could be) didn't have a toilet included - this was down the corridor.Nice staff - helped with extra blanket and turned heating on. Basement room not noisy. However didn't feel clean and the bed was very uncomfortable. Seems a little strange to have breakfast finishing at 8.45a.m. on a Saturday. That said I was happy that they allowed me a slighly later check-in. Fine for travellers looking for budget accomodation.

Having found this hotel for £59 in a central London location, I thought it was great value. I left feeling as though I had been ripped off. This is a grotty, dingy dive. Rooms awful, not even a toilet in the room. Sink and shower in dire need of maintenance. Absolutley appalling, and quite simply the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The reception lady was unfriendly, unhelpful and I even felt unsafe there. DO NOT USE THIS HOTEL.

I should have known better from the moment the owner/manager called me the day before I arrived to question me as to why I hadn't turned up. When she realised her mistake there was no apology just a demand as to when I was going to turn up the next day. When I met her the following day she was abrupt and unfriendly. I slept ok but the lightshade was full of bugs and dust, the sidelight didn't work, the TV was rubbish and the shower room unspeakable.

I thought the hotel was very clean and staff was nice And i thought the breakfast we got in the price as well was very good too.I don't think it is as bad as what people have made it out to be.The only down side to the hotel was the amount of stairs that we had to get up and it felt like there was no air conditioning in the room as well which wasn't very nice when it was hot weather,And we couldn't open the windows either. But overall very good for the money and we got £10 knocked off as well cause we paid in cash and not by card like i originally planned.Like they say.....Every Little Helps!,Especially in London!Would definately reccomend the hotel if your after a cheap hotel.
