Excellent Hotel, Great Location

Love this hotel, stayed here twice, It's in a pleasant area opposite the Natural History and Science museums. Tube station is a few minutes walk away and there are plenty of eating places nearby. The hotel is quiet and cosy and perfect for a city break.

Room Size and features

I was disappointed at the size of the room - considering it was a twin executive room, both single beds were together with barely 60cms of walking space either side. (one side was taken up with a portable aircon unit that restricted the space even further as the 4" diameter, flexible pipe had to be pushed into a recieving aperture in the window). At the bottom of the beds the walking space was probably no more than 100cms. (I chose this room because I wanted plenty of space and the more expensive "executive" seemed to fit the bill above the "standard" hence the disappointment). Fortunately we had a busy schedule so didn't need to use the room very often. However, the lobby and lounge is oozing with character and is a lovely place to relax. We did not eat there so cannot comment on the food. I would recommend the hotel as long as people were aware of the room size beforehand. It is not very far by foot from South Kensington Tubestation and the Natural History/Science museum is only a "stone's throw" away!

Great Character Hotel in Great Location

We really enjoyed the brief night we spent here. The Victorian/Edwardian decor and paintings in the lounge meant that the place had real character. The room was larger than many in London and the fittings were traditional, as should be expected from the rest of the hotel, and of good quality. The water pressure in the shower was excellent.
The only mild irritation with the room was that the large double bed was actually two singles pushed together which meant that cuddling up together wasn't really possible - It's a shame that the Victorian throwback style of the hotel was also extended to the sleeping arrangements!
The location is truly superb though - particularly if you are going to spend time in the museums.
We got the room on a very good discount through Laterooms. £211 room for £90. It was very good value for a London hotel at this price. If the room was available at any price up to about £150 I'd definitely stay again, I'd hesitate to pay full price.

Friendly, handy and value for money

They are right when they say it is handy for the Natural History Museum, much closer and i would have been sleeping under the T Rex. A very warm welcome from the staff and a most welcome 'complimentary' drink offered when booking in.
I was lucky enough to have a room upgrade whihc gave me a plenty of space to 'spread out'. Only one small niggle would be a few loose floor baords outside the lift (near my room) so when people exiting lift it was a little noisy but not loud enough to spoil my sleep.

Quiet and good location

We chose this hotel as it was within walking distance of the two museums we wanted to visit. It was comfortable, quiet and good value for money. The staff were friendly and offered complimentary coffee on checking in. Cannot comment on the food as we ate out. We were able to leave our luggage here whilst visiting the museums after checking out. All in all very pleased and would stay again.

Great location but poor attention to detail for me

I travel extensively and as a result tend to compare hotels both within the UK and abroad.
I found this hotel pleasant enough but the detail was poor, eg no tea making facilities in an executive room, no newspapers, toiliteries adequate but not as I would expeqct. The rom was tidy, the bed was atrocious, two single beds pushed together.....at different heights so the sleep was poor...no mini bar even for water was the icing on the cake....not wanting to sound like an old buffer but I would have hoped for more comparing it to the Internet and the web pages.

Booked due to location - right next to Natural History Museum - which it absolutely is. Also excellent rate - £80 for a single room was outstanding for the location. However, the door locked and the bed was clean and comfy. Ideally located. I would propbably use the hotel again but it would be nice for them to make a little more effort.

Very satisfied with the hotel, especially with levels of cleanliness and value for money.(A small niggle, referred to in at least one other review, is the lack of fresh milk). We found the hotel very conveniently situated for the nearby hospitals, bus and tube services, and the museums. Altogether a good find.

Queensberry place is a small street of upmarket town houses - the hotel frontage and reception are excellent. I hade a small double for single occupancy - very comfortable and well equipped.
Only downside, room was very warm, there was a free standing air con unit, but this was quite noisy.
Natural History museum and many restaurants withing 200 - 300 yards.

Good for museums and Proms

The ground-floor area was pleasant and quirky with lots of Art on the walls as its name suggests. The room was comfortable with a squeaky-clean bath - not always the case in hotels! All necessary supplies and equpment in room. Hotel staff riendly and helpful. Excellent value for the booked-well-ahead price. Planes and traffic are audible through closed windows but traffic dies down at night and I always use earplugs in hotels so it didn't worry me.

Birthday break

This was a special gift to my husband with a show at the Albert Hall for his 65th birthday. We were definitely not impressed on our arrival. Too early to book in, receptionist gladly took care of our luggage as we intended to go out for lunch. Us: 'could we use toilet please?' Receptionist: 'yes of course'. She pointed us to the direction behind and down the stairs. It must have been a staff toilet, which was o.k, BUT, no hot water, soap or towel, and toilet cubicle was filthy. Not a good start, put us off eating here. Our suite was good when we finally found it, again, we were just pointed in the direction of the lift, and the hotel being full of character, is full of twists and turns, not easy to find, lugging our cases.

Welcoming and polite staff, great location, and a reception very different from the usual. We paid £80 for the night, while the standard rate was about £200. If we'd paid full price I'd have been very unhappy, but I assume they don't put anybody who pays full price in a smallish room on the top floor with an airconditioner that makes a racket. The only way I'd stay again would be if I knew up front that it would be possible to sleep with the aircon on, because you can't expect to sleep with the windows wide open in central London.

Gallery Hotel

The ground floor of the Gallery Hotel is rather unique and beautiful due to the original decor and artwork on display. Having said this the decor of the room I stayed in was rather less impressive. The bathroom and bed were clean but much of the rooms fixtures and fittings looked rather worn and shabby giving the feel of untidiness. Stylistically a mismatch of faux victoriana. The interior decoration in my room was truly ghastly and in desperate need of updating. For instance the arm chair in the room had a throw over it which was worn, frayed and dirty and clearly many years old. There was also an item of clothing left by a previous guest in the wardrobe. For four star I would expect a bit more of a standard although I have stayed in much worse...
