our stay was awful it took over an hour to book in they couldnt get the rooms right we had 2 family rooms booked and were given a twin and a family room when complained they told me they would put a bunk bed in a twin room which bearly fitted the twin beds already in place so complained again and was shown a different room that had 3 bunk beds in (hardly suitable for a family) 3rd room was better but still very small and outdated. the family room had a horrible stench which you could just about stick with the window wide open, the window was also smashed tiles loose in bathroom breakfast was awful orange juice had been so diluted worse than squash limited choices available wouldnt recommend at all!

The place Queen Victoria stayed once. A long time ago now i suspect. The Hotel was certainly fit for purpose although some areas were not the best for wear. We stayed in 2 rooms, 1 triple and a double. The triple was, as you would expect a little crowded and there was some wear in the batchrooom area, but the Double was actually very well appointed. and as a double room was in keeping with some good hotels I've stayed in on business too if not in the same line as Jurys in Croydon, but then neither was the cost. All in all, YES, i would stay there againOne point, we were told by other guests at the front desk that we would be better booking through LR.com and we asked the lady on reception, and she adminitted that would would be, so went away and booked through LR.com and saved about £40 a night for the 2 nights we were there.

The exterior of the hotel was very good. Looked posh and clean as did the reception. Reception staff were lovely and friendly. Not a bad word to say about them. The hotel itself however, needed revonating. The pictures on LateRooms are NOT wat you actually get. These are the more luxurious rooms which are from £49.95 when u book thru the hotel itself. (According to the sign outside) Our double room was old and tatty and on the ground floor. Bathroom had plugs missing and a leaking shower which caused mould to grow. Wanted peace and quiet in our room to relax but we were interupted a LOT. House keepers were knocking constantly after we told them we didnt need their services. Other staff knocked to ask if we were ok, if the room was ok, if we needed anything. All of which were on separate occassion. Overall, for the price we paid, it was OK. But only stay here as a last resort or book thru the hotel itself to get the better room.

The hotel from the outside looks quite impressive and so does the reception area .......but beware! We booked 2 rooms for one night. My daughters room was quite large and quite well fitted with wardrobe, tele, bedside lamps, bath and shower. However the room my husband and I stayed in was so different! It was not much bigger than a walk in cupboard with a blank sealed door (no handle) between us and the people in the next room. We could hear their every word and movement. Hardly a private room! There was no wardrobe or hooks available to hang any clothes.Gouges out of the walls, especially where the door spring had to be given more room so as the door could open properly. The fire alarm was covered with a plastic bag........ health and safety, whats that!!No plug in the sink and the sink wasn't even attached to the wall Only a shower (no bath) which the water didn't run away from ,so my shower was extremely quick and my husband couldn't even have one. There was a tele as stated, but there was no ariel so we could not get any channels. The fan in the bathroom was very noisy, laboured in its working and old.The lighting was a flourescent tube. No bedside lamp. Hard on the eyes especially early in the morning. The bed was solid...... so was my daughters. We didn't sleep at all well. The hotel states that breakfast is included. Beware it's only cereals and toast, luke warm tea and coffee. You have to pay £5 extra for a cooked breakfast. We made a complaint especially about the fire alarm. When we returned to the room we had a T.V ariel and a plug in the sink but the plastic bag was never removed from the smoke alarm so we climbed up and removed it ourselves! It could of made the difference between life and death.

The service was good. But the room was about as far from the reception and lift as possible; this meant that our ageing bodies had to suffer with stairs and long walks - my wife has bad knees and is waiting to see a specialist. So we asked to be moved for our second night's stay and here they were wholly accommodating and got us a room near the lift on the ground floor. But I do have a complaint: the first room we had must have been near the heating system which was clunking along up to midnight; then it came back on at about five in the morning. Poor. The second room we had was better but even there I could hear a persistent sort of squeaking noise: I think it may have been due to wind blowing through a gap in the broken window which should be fixed instantly.I will not be staying there again in spite of the low cost of £40 p room p night, one reason being that I was using it as a base to see my son and his wife who live in Dulwich and it was rather further than I expected (without a car so had to use taxis a lot).Breakfast was disappointingly "continental" though you could pay an extra 4.95 for cooked food.

If I had known I was going to be staying in this room before I arrived I would not have bothered. I checked the hotel website and saw a reasonable looking room. This is not what I was greeted with. The room was barely that. I expected at least the standard I have at home and it fell well short of that. The door had been badly repaired, the bathroom door was the same. You could hardly give the bathroom that title. It was tiny and the equipment was shoddy and not well maintained. It reminded me of staff qaurters I had seen at another hotel. There were cobwebbs on the walls, three different coloured lights, little and poor furniture. What appeared to be a 20year old television, which we did not try. We did not spend any time in the hotel. We used it as a base to visit London. We arrived late on Friday evening, and once in our room, quickly decided we were going to spend as little time as possible there. The breakfast was basic and offered little choice.I booked this room via the easyjet site and was really dissapointed with what I got. I would certainly not recomend this hotel to anyone!!

We were on a budget and wanted breakfast...
We were on a budget and wanted breakfast in the morning, so this is what we found on LateRooms. We arrived to a very grand building from the outside, this changed slightly..Firstly. non of the staff could speak proper english. They were all standing behind the reception muttering about customers, while we stood there waiting for them to stop before they attended to us.Then we were told our room was on -1 floor. We went down the stairs into the corridor of rooms. The smell was horrendours, like someone had bleeched the walls, the floor, the doors - it was almost unbearable. We later realised this corridor was where everything was stored and where the staff accommodation was (aswell as where our rooms was!)Our room was ok, for the price, it had a bed and en suite. We just found the problem to be that the duvet was too small for the bed, bit annoying. And through the night the staff were obviouslt finishing work so were going back and forward, it was very noisy.breakfast - up to the 5th floor!! Certainly needed breakfast by then, to find that if you wanted a cooked breakfast you needed to pay an extra £4.25 in pre paid vouchers?! So we stuck to the continental one, which was ok. Tinned fruit, tea and coffee, toast.I think next time, we'll sleep in the back of the van - might have been more enjoyable.

I booked into this hotel for three nights. Firstly, didn't get the double room I booked for me and partner and when I mentioned this to reception they tried to charge an extra £20 per night for a double! Secondly, we were in an area of the hotel where there were loud, selfish, foreign kids in rooms near us. This wasn't for one night, but all three nights we were there. We rang reception, called at reception and of course, nothing got done. The kids kept knocking and slamming doors until early hours and when they got up. Thet kept trying our door also. It seems the reception and hotel just look after their "own" ie foreigners. If you speak English, forget it!

On arrival, I have to say that the receptionist was very polite, and had a smile for everyone that came in to the hotel. That, unfortunately was the only positive aspect of the hotel. My brother and I were only staying the one night, thankfully, and had a twin room on the first floor. The corridor to the room was pokey and old, with a carpet that was frayed and wallpaper that was coming away from the skirting board. The cleaners were mid-way through their shift, and had bags in the middle of the corridor full of the dirty laundry and then next to them, bags with folded up clean laundry. Once in the room, there was a damp smell, and the carpets and wallpaper were in an even worse state than in the corridor. In the bathroom, I found that the toilet seat was dirty, the floor mat had a stain on it that can only be described as blood, and on the wall next to the mirror, there was a tile missing that had wires poking out of it.I went to let the receptionist know, who was happy to help, and phoned the cleaning staff right away. The cleaning staff did not have the patience or good customer service that the receptionist had, and treated me as though I had done them a wrong by making them aware of the toilet seat and bath mat. They cleaned the toilet seat, speaking in a language I didn't know to one another in a manner that seemed very rude.Once it came to getting to sleep, there was a party on in the function room, and we could hear everything that was happening. Needless to say, it took until the party to end before either of us could sleep. We heard others in the rooms next to us complaining too.I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, and will not be staying at any other euro hotel again.

OK, Florence Nightingale, Kaiser Wilhelm and Emile Zola may have stayed there, and the horse carriage trade along Church Road to the wonders that were the Crystal Palace must have been something to behold, but this hotel is really all about you get what you pay for.GOOD A large and bright, comfortable bar area.FAIR Some rooms OK - our patyt had 6, various reports of loose fittings, no working kettles, but beds comfy enoughBAD Breakfast; noise from huge African party in adjacent function room. Worse, noise from other peoples rooms at 3am which hotel staff seemed reluctant to confront. So for an in passing type of experience you could do worse if you have limited expectations. Actually it quite suited our needs, a group of young people and the hugeness of the hotel allowed flexibility of room allocation. But its is more hostale than hotel and the notion of the Crowned Heads of Europes frequenting it even in our straightened credit crunch times brings tears of mirth to our eyes!

The breakfast is toast/cereal- for what you pay they could really throw in a full breakfast, not that the one availabel at an extra cost looked particularly appetising. Otherwise it was fine, cheaper than central hotels and had pretty easy access to the station (Crystal Palace) and from there to central London (Victoria/London Bridge)

Good value for London. Only major problem with my room (151) was that the toilet was so close to the protruding wall at the front that I had to sit sideways! (Would be OK for kids or very short folk but I am 6'4") I have family dotted around south London and the hotel is 10 minutes walk from the bus station where there are frequent buses to just about everywhere south of the river. I would recommend to selected friends who are not used to high quality hotels. Breakfast not inspiring but the view from the breakfast room is worth the bother! The Hilton it ain't, but beds are comfortable and rooms are clean, there is a TV in the room (poor aerial so don't bank on being able to watch digital channels) and what do you expect for the money in London. I object to paying silly prices, so would stay there again.

The Double bed looked as if someone had just slept in it and there was a wet towel on the floor. The en-suite facility was a seperate bathroom in the corridor with no lock and our room number written in pen on the door. The continental breakfast was paltry and the upgraded (for £4.95 each) cooked breakfast looked as tired as we did, after a restless night listening to pipes clangimg and generators coming on and off.

I could have made a hairdryer in the time it took us to get one from the hotel , we asked in the evening we arrived as soon as we realised we didn't have one and would be needing one. Nothing came. We asked a total of five times after this, three of which were the same member of staff at the front desk who told us the first time that it was in our drawer. Drawer? We didn't have a drawer, a bed side table or a lamp. We did eventually receive the hairdryer, although it was after our check out time at which point our key stopped working for our door and made it all the more difficult to go and try and take a hairdryer from another room as we were told to do. Another brilliant example of tip top customer service we received was when we went to ask the reception about directions in the area, there were four members of staff stood behind the desk; of which none even acknowledged our presence for at least five minutes even though two of which were stood doing absolutely nothing.Obviously we were not expecting the Ritz for £30, but what we experienced was most certainly below three stars.oh, and the number on our door was drawn on in marker pen.

The hotel is very impressive from the outside and was extremely good value for money. The staff are polite and well presented. The room we had (family room) was clean but needed a bit of updating. The window wouldnt shut fully which resulted in an icy cold draught, luckily there was a spare blanket which we folded up to give some relief from the December chill. The bathroom was basic but there was no extractor fan and the window in here was very difficult to open. The silicon used to seal around the bath/shower was in desperate need of either a good clean or replacement as it was black from mould in places. The breakfast was part of the deal and you could have as much as you liked, there was also the option of upgrading to a cooked breakfast at a reasonable price.I would stay here again but if staying for more than one night I would have asked to change rooms as the draught from the window would have been too much.

Overall, only worth staying there for the value of 50 pound a night any more and I would say don't bother. To help you with your customer service, it would make it easier if you provided some information sheets about meal times and the floor to go to to eat it.Also information about the local area, eg. location of supermarket, train station and bus services. All of this information is eaily provided on a single sheet of paper with a small map of the area for the people from overseas who are staying there.

I recommend you do too because you get what you pay for ... and the cheeper it is the more forgivness you will have. We were only there over night.. ha ha .. I have a feeling that was about the maximum ... I'll explain: The first comment I got from Reception was .. well you can see the room before you take it - If you stay here expect to view a couple or four rooms .. and choose the least bad - We viewed a room under construction, a bathroom with black mouldy bath and tiles comming off the floor / walls . . We heard 3 conversations at the front desk of people changing rooms and complaining about heating not working, no hairdryer, shower curtain falling off etc. If you stay here ... be aware that it is cheep and ear plugs may help surpress creaky floor boards, closing doors and mumbled conversations ... You only live once ... should be seen to be beleived ... be brave ... be patient ... be strong ... have low expectations .. and you will walk away wondering what all the fuss was about .. Defo a story I will be telling over Christmas dinner for years to come. - NOT A ROMANTIC RETREAT!!

However, once you have (in our case) walked through many a corridoor & staircase to find your room, it no longer looks so nice! We were so appalled that we did not stick around for the breakfast next morning - despite the fact that it was included in the price. The hotel appeared to be over run with young people & foreigners (not of a short stay/holidaying nature!!)If you do decide that this is the place for you - do not try to book in before late afternoon. Despite being told we could check in from 11am, we were turned away at 1pm, being told our room was not yet ready and would be at least a couple of hours. So ... we left our belongings in the car & headed into the city & meet our friends. Mainline rail just 10 - 15 mins walk from hotel. After bashing my head on the low ceiling, I switched on the TV to find no reception. On looking round the back I found there was no aerial cable nor a socket in the wall even if there was one. The bed was extremely firm for my liking, oh and the shower in the morning was somewhere between tepid and cold! The included- in- the- price breakfast was toast and some warm coffee from a flask. After looking forward to a much needed weekend away with my wife, we were disappointed in this hotel, it felt like we had stepped back in time when we went through the doors, the overall cleanliness wasn't too bad, but the very dated decor made it feel unclean! Our room had various holes in back of doors and curtains falling off rail, the ONLY single electric socket was underneath a cupboard, the kettle (yes we just about had a kettle and teabag!) had a lead attached and you had to take the whole thing to bathroom to fill up and get down on all fours to plug in underneath the cupboard! Very poor breakfast,if you wanted to suffer the queue, 2 toasters only 1 working, that's if you managed to make it without getting too wet from the drips out of the ceiling after a heavy downfall! We never had our breakfast on the second morning, due to having had to be somewhere else at a certain time and the queues were so long we couldn't wait for our choice of 2 cereals, watered down orange juice and white sliced toast! Parking was also a problem, for a large hotel, not enough spaces, unless you wanted to risk your car being trashed with rubble from the skips parked up! All in all a very poor experience and we expected much better for the price we paid!

Believe me when I say that I never ever make any complaints but I was so unimpressed by this hotel I just had to warn people from staying at this hotel. I wasn't impressed at all by the quality standard that was serviced by the hotel. I arrived 8pm and my first thoughts looking at the reception room was that it was quite a nice little hotel, but it didn't take long for me to change my mind. There was one receptionist at the time, with at least 2 other hotel staff waiting around the scene but not helping out. It wasn't particularly busy, I was about fifth in the queue, but took me until gone 9:45pm to be served. By the time i was served they told me that they had run out of keycards so that customers would have to be escorted to their hotel room everytime they wished, until the next day when I was supplied with my own key. When I arrived in my room it was very noticeable that the hotel didn't really care to give to give their customers a good standard stay. There was a bag left in the room which I presumed was accidentily left by the previous room occupant so I took it to the reception. However midway during the night there was quite a lot of loud banging on the door so I opened the door to find a man coming back in from his evening entertainment. He told me that this was his room, so after we deduced that they double booked us into the same room I appologised and told him there wasn't anything I could do and that I had already given his bag to the reception. The next night went by eventless enough for my liking but my final night I arrived back at the hotel room to find that my key wouldn't work so I had to wait for the reception to figure out the mess and let me back into my room. In short I wouldn't recommend anyone to stay at this hotel and find any other hotel before this one. The extra few pounds will be worth it.

Trading Standards would do well to look at the running of this hotel. If this is part of a chain, I would not stay at any further Euro Group hotels in case they were run as badly as this one. Only one hairdryer in the hotel of 196 rooms, and that was broken, even though it states online that they are in every room.Speaking to Reception to ask if guests outside the building to calm their rowdiness was greeted with "there is nothing we can do madame" even though it was midnight.Continental Breakfast was frosties, coco pops, and toast. The tables were full of Jam and grease. The whole room needed a deep clean and not a good example to all european visitors as this could give the impression that all decent hotels are of the same service.

Hi,The hotel itself seemed fine, it was a pity that the room wasn't. Although, it was clean, the furniture was damaged & mismatched & there were holes in the carpets & curtains. The room was very small and supposed to be a twin room (for 2 people), but they had also added a bunkbed in with the two single beds = 4 people instead of 2, for a room not even big enough for 2. There was no room to walk round. The television was a very small portable one with an indoor aerial which made some of the channels a bit fuzzy. The walls were dirty with stains & finger marks and there were holes in the walls. The bathroom suite was v. old (not antique, just out of date and not in good condition) and there were broken tiles & holes in the walls. The toilet was situated in a very close corner & was only just accessible due to its angle. There were not enough electrical sockets in the walls (only one), so even though there was a kettle for making tea & coffee, you could not watch television & boil water for a tea, it was either one or the other. The same with a lamp that could not be switched on because there was no socket to plug it in. It was just a good job that we were only there for two nights & that we were out most of the time. The breakfast was OK, but you had to queue up & make your own toast on an industrial toaster which could turn out to be dangerous (it was very hot). It would have been better that a member of staff put the toast on the machine to avoid any problems....

This was the worst hotel I have ever...
This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. I asked for a room on a lower floor for my elderly parents and they gave us a room in the lower basement. To get to it we were taken down the back stairs used for staff and deliveries - 35 steps and no lift. The room had no bedside lamps, no hairdryer, no trouser press not even a kettle but the worst thing was it had no window! There was no pictures on the walls - just a very large damp patch and there was a kitchen sink in the corner of the room. A makeshift wardrobe was a Health & Safety hazard. The bed had no bedspread. We felt as if we had slept in a prison all night. The maid just walked in at 8.15am in the morning without knocking and the continental breakfast consisted of cereal, cheap slices of white bread and cold tea and coffee. I spent an hour complaining to 3 managers but to no avail. They had no understanding of the distress they had caused my parents and it ruined our weekend.

Outrageous claims made by hotel failed to live up to expectaions. Understaffed, undertrained and overwhelmed staff try their best, but poor management do little to assit.Hotel in process of being refurbed by poor quality builders (even the shaver socket was installed upside down) My room was still in need of attention, though had been 'modernised'. Seems mainly to be used by white van men and Nigerians, who kept a significant amount of people awake at night with their distinctive loud conversational manner.

Overall, there was very good. We had only breakfast, which was very nice. The room, even if it was somewhere downstairs, was very clean, and very warm for this time of the year ( mid October), a plus is the parking and CCTV to secure it, also, the hotel is not far away from Crystal Palace Train station, which takes you to Victoria station in 20 minutes. The only things that I didn't like were:When we arrived around midnight, we drove over broken glasses in the car park, and I had to patch my tyre the next day. Also, we got hit with some heavy milkshake drinks, in the front of the hotel. Actually we were inside the parking area, and some cycling teenage kids on purpose did throw them at us.Result was: dirty clothing, we had some shopping with us and that was unlucky, go with them to drycleaners to clean them. But as I said, overall it was very good, friendly staff also.Dan

Outside on a sign a single was -...
Outside on a sign a single was £40 - I booked six weeks ahead for £32 ( 20% off )I ended up with a lower floor room which on Sunday morning at 8:30 had a church service, with a piano and singing going on - So No 'Lie In' if that's what you want. There were two main surpirses :1) The mattress was 'downhill' ! ... Plus a dip under my knees ! ...... So been a double bed I turned sideways and slept across the bed.2) The tap could be turned bothways and the impression was that Hot came out to the right and Cold to the left. This appeared to be the case on the first day and I brussed my teeth and filled up a bottle with water for the day.BUT I did notice the red plastic marker moved with the tap and on the last day HOT WATER came out In Both Directions. Therefore there is No Cold Water Direct from the mains. ( I did run this for a while and to confirm this wasn't cold water in a pipe that had been close to a hot water pipe and just beenn warmed up through heat transfer from pipe been next to each other ) ... Only on the last day did I notice a toilet further down the corridor - so use this for brushing your teeth etc.PLUS :3) I asked for a wake up call which was 'put in the system' - this didn't work on the first night ( did the 2nd night) So 'the system' doesn't feedback and inform the reception that the phone reciever wasn't lifted ( It didn't ring - I was awake all night as it was the 1st night sleeping somewhere new )4) Another surprise was that the door key didn't work. This was because they work better if they have been charged up recently. So if yours doesn't work - then you'll have to return to reception to get it refreshed.5) The breakfast is basic - Cereal and Toast, Coffee, Tea, Fruit Juice. BUT the bread is slightly dry - out of the freezer feel. Plus ALL fruit juice is watered down - even the everyday Orange Juice. Either it's supplied on the cheap or watered down. I'm surprised because Reasonable Orange Juice can be bought at such a low price - why penny pinch on such a thing ???6) The one thing that is a winner, for me, is that this place was built in a prime spot with a decent exterior feel. So when your on the Fifth Floor having Breakfast. Do go outside onto the balcony and look over the whole of London as you are at The Highest Point - Enjoy the view.( Breakfast Mon-Fri from 7am, Sat/Sun from 7.30 )7) Crystal Palace Railway Station is 20mins walk away ( via a hill ) Anerley a further 15mins walk. £8.60 for days travel to Zone 3 on all public transport.8) On the way to the station (15mins walk) is a bus station ( before the hill ) With The Number 3 taking you into Central London for £2 one way.

For what you pay the Queens hotel is good value for money. The rooms are of a good size, clean and the breakfast a welcome inclusion in the price. The staff are also quick to mend any faults (in my case a broken TV).On the down side, the corridors are certainly showing their age- modernisation has obviously been aimed at the rooms and not the rest of the hotel (which is probably a good thing!!)- though there are signs suggesting it is slowly being sorted out. Because it is such an old building, the place is like a rabbit warren. This is really not helped by the poor sinage (consisting of A4 pieces of paper blutakked to the walls) which looks really unprofessional and could be easily sorted. On the whole though it was a cheap place to stay and you pay for what you get!!

Although I appreciate that the cost of the room was easily affordable, I have NEVER experienced a Hotel room that has been as basic as this one was. The most noticeable example of the degree of 'basic', was that there wasn't even a MIRROR in the bathroom for a gentleman to be able to SHAVE in. I would have to be VERY DESPERATE to ever consider staying at this Hotel ever again.

If your looking for something cheap and reasonable then this is it.....with a good discount from Late Rooms.Room was reasonable but had a long walk from reception.....it's a large hotel and not easy to find your room the first time you get there. Had to make trip a few times when electronic 'key' did not work in the lock.I had hot water in the wash basin but none in the shower....I did mention it but to no avail.Did a deal with a full English breakfast, which was good, apart from that it's continental. The best bit about the hotel is that it's in London and has plenty of free parking on site...if you press the buzzer to open the gate on RHS of hotel, then drive down behind it.

Nice place, very clean and tidy, excellent staff, very friendly place. On the night of my stay the menu was somewhat shortened by the lack of any Indian food (shame, because I could smell it ). The rest of the menu, however was palatable and good value for money. The ongoing building works during my stay was hardly noticeable. on the whole, a very good hotel experience.

The queens hotel is reminisant of a badly run mid priced hotel in India and I have stayed in many such places throughout the sub continent. You get what you pay for and the Queens hotel offered £35 per night rooms in London, so what do you expect. It is in short a dump. A shambolic, dirty, dusty, unkept and generally depressing dump. I stayed 2 nights and will be back for more next week for another 2 nights, like I say £35 in London. I couldn't do more than 2 nights and it really makes you appreciate your own home. A cesspit in the Indain style, enjoy.

True value for money. The staff at this establishment are as good as you'll get anywhere in the world - a real feather in the Euro Hotel cap. The room was clean and tidy. Externally, the hotel is good on the eye and well illuminated in the evening. An additional plus is the free parking. Because it is such good value, it's a busy location with guests everywhere - A proper cross-section of society! The corridors could be made more attractive by the placement of flowers or by hanging a picture or two....but that is far from essential - I would recommend this hotel to anyone seeking budget accomodation in and around the area - you won't be disappointed!!
