There were many shortfalls in the room I stayed in: broken electrical fittings, poor water pressure in the shower which took a long time to run hot, a sash window that that had not been cleaned on the outside and would not stay up so had to be wedged open, poorly painted woodwork and doors, an ancient TV on a bracket above the bed with a trailing power cable, nowhere to store my suitcase except the floor where it had to be stepped over, minute basin in the bathroom that should have been in a tiny domestic cloakroom. There were various holes in walls where fittings had been removed/fallen off that had not been filled, giving an impression of delapidation. Breakfast was included in the price but this consisted merely of serve-yourself cereals dispensed from tacky dispensers, do-it-yourself toast and coffee and juice, again served from dispensers. The breakfast room contained an ancient back projection TV that looked like it had been there for a very long time. Returning from a theatre visit at 11.00pm, I had to wait for someone to return to give me my room key, despite having checked before leaving that someone would be on reception when I returned.
