we enjoyed our nights stay at the hotel. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The room was tastefully decorated. It would have been nice to have had tea and coffee making facilities in the room.

We have stayed previously and were very pleased with the hotel therefore it made sense to return for our short stay. We were not disappointed, the hotel accommodation was good, the staff are excellent, nothing is too much trouble. We will certainly return when we visit London again.

On arrival the entrance, reception area and restaurant all looked impressive. We were delighted with the central location. The staff were friendly and helpful. Downsides were..........The double room was very small with en suite bathroom. The bedding was stained and looked dirty. The television in our room only had two channels as it did not have any reception. The bath taps presented only a trickle and it took a good five minutes to run a bath which wasn't even hot.

My original booking was with a hotel around the corner. However, it had a fire the night before and I was moved. This was a poor second choice. The hotel had seen better days and was modernised, however, my bed was very soft and the hotel still had that old "traditional" feel with faded carpets in the halls etc. It was not good value for money.

The most courteous and helpful staff, oak panelled reception rooms, several elegant little sitting rooms for peace and quiet, much original architectural detail. A mix of guests from 20's to elderly, all suitably appreciative of their surroundings and very much of a kind, visiting London for business or social reasons though usually based in the country and regarding the hotel more as a club or a home from home. Our room, small, functional though not at all plain, elegantly decorated & good quality white bathroom fittings, was at the rear of the hotel, facing a cobbled mews. The only negative for some (not for us) is that from 6am the council waste lorry visits the mews to collect hotel rubbish and suppliers arrive to deliver/collect bottles etc - no chance of sleeping through this - something to be aware of in rear facing rooms. Nonetheless, a wonderful gem of a hotel and we will certainly return.

irst time I'd stayed here. The atmosphere of the public rooms (panelled, old prints etc) is quintessentially English, and so the hotel seems to attract a loyal and very English type of clientele. This is an easy place to relax and service is good. I enjoyed my meal (again traditional English fare: soup, salmon etc). Upstairs the corridors and my room were a little tired and could do with some modernisation. In the bathroom, my loo seat was a cheap one which wobbled (1) and hot water was a bit slow to arrive at peak showering times.
