Although had booked a twin room for myself and a visting friend from Canada after check in we were shown to a very small double. Upon complaining about this we were asked to wait in the room while the staff found us a twin. After several minutes we decided that the best course of action was to go back down to reception. Here we were told that there was no problem and the beds would be split and the room rearranged as a twin. We went out and returned after 3 hours to be told that they couldn't transform the room and basically "take it or leave it". We complained again and we told that a double was available for more money. We said this was totally unacceptable as we had a firm booking # and had already registered. Finally after threatening legal action we were eventually given a larger twin. The rest of our 1 night stay was enjoyable and the staff in the bar very friendly and efficient.

Nice room, but with very noisy air conditioning (even when turned off !).
My shower ran cold, reported it to reception straight away, no recompense.

Great location, close to the Royal Parks and the West End. Service and attention to customers is excellent and great value at LateRoom rates. Breakfast was of good quality, delivered on time and although a little on the expensive side, nothing far removed from other hotels of ths quality. Excellent, my new favourite hotel in London

Hotel had lots of character but without a stuffy atmosphere. Friendly staff and great room. I'd give breakfast a miss next time as it's better and cheaper at some nice places around the corner

Very convenient location. The staff were very friendly and efficient. They were expecting me and called me by my name during my visit even though it was the first time I'd stayed there. Exceptionally comfortable beds. The hotel feels very private, but cosy at the same time. The gym is small, but all that you need and a nice bonus in a hotel of this size and location.

I splashed out on this 5 star hotel as part of a 2 night stay in London for a concert in Hyde Park. Very pleasant and courteous staff throughout. The first day was hot and I was so pleased that the room had air conditioning although it was a bit noisy but it didnt disturb my sleep. I ate in the restaurant one evening quite nice food but it should have been given the prices. I took breakfast in my room (full English 22). No complaints about the hotel but on checkout my bill had items I hadnt had. Green Park underground station is fairly close. The hotel is in St James a nice area its within easy walking distance of Fortnum and Mason, the Royal Academy of Arts, Buckingham Palace and Clarence House. Trafalgar Square is a pleasant 20 minute or so walk away via Pall Mall or Piccadilly.

Although the standard was good and clean, I wouldn't recommend this to a friend as the value for money wasn't great. The room was very pokey even though it had everything we needed. Location was very good though which is what you pay for i guess!

This is a beautiful and special hotel in a brilliant location. The food is excellent and the bar is fun. Perhaps the rooms are just starting to look a little tired in parts but it is still my first choice hotel in London.

My only caveat: I had booked - and paid for - an Executive Room
which I was not given. (Am sure other women can relate: In my
experience, you pitch up as a businesswoman on your own and you
are automatically given a tiny room up in the roof, ie Duke's,
The Cavendish; or in the basement, ie Hazlitt's, even though an
executive room has been reserved for you.)

A very enjoyable stay at a quintessentially "English" Hotel. Staff very efficient and friendly. Bedroom comfortable and spacious. Martini's exceptional! So very different in many ways from it's "sister" hotel, One Aldwych, where we usually stay, but the quality remains the same. We shall definitely stay at Dukes again.

lovely hotel. Disappointing:
- to wait 30 mins to be served in the drawing room,
- the bar closing at 11.30 - even to residents
- to be charged for Internet use in a hotel of this class
