Best service of any mid range London hotel I've stayed in

I am a regular business traveler to London staying for a few days every 2 weeks or so. I have tried a variety of hotels and this one stands head and shoulders above the rest. The service was what you should expect - too many places I've stayed in have very grumpy people working there. On arrival, I noted that they treated not only me but a party of asian guests with limited english in a very friendly and courteous manner.
The room was adequate as all I was looking for was a bed to sleep in and a decent shower. The TV wasn't working though but a quick call to reception (at 11:30pm too) and the problem was dealt with within 10 minutes. (The cable was missing so just needed a replacement).
Will be the first place I try from now on when I go to book.
Oh PS nice english breakfast too. The only point against being the mushrooms came from a can.

A really pleasant London hotel

The real strength of this hotel is its staff. They were all very helpful and pleasant and helped make our stay most enjoyable. The bedroom and bathroom were both modern and clean. Breakfast was substantial and served with a smile.

Fire door fruatration!!

The Hotel was very clean, the room small but fine, it had just been painted and that ruins any stay for me as the fumes were too much but of course this is only passing.
What really got me about this place was the narrow corridors and wretched fire doors which are spring loaded and when you have a bag in each hand and try and shuffle to and fro at every door it becomes very tiresome by door number 6! I know fire precautions are a good thing but.....!!?
I would stay again but perhaps only take 1 bag ;)

A really good class hotel with helpful staff

This is one hotel on a street full of hotels very near Paddington station. I stayed in one of the basement rooms so there were no view but the room was clean and comfortable. The food at breakfast was of a good standard and the staff were all very friendly and helpful

Excellent hotel but a little cold

I had an excellent stay at the hotel but my only complaint was that my room was a little cold overnight. Given that it was February, I'm sure that a stay at any other time of the year would be perfectly ok.
The room was clean, well equipped and the free bottle of water was a nice touch. The staff were all happy and friendly and the breakfast was very good.

Great location and comfortable!

Stayed here for a short break to celebrate my birthday. We stayed in room 303 at the front of the hotel, which was very roomy, clean and comfortable. The weather was extremely cold during our stay, but the hotel was warm everywhere. Not too noisy from the street below at night so we had reasonable sleep. No bar at the hotel but a good breakfast room at lower ground level. All the hotel staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the breakfast was buffet style with cooked options too and was acceptable. The location of the Darlington is ideal as it is within a few minutes of great bus links (which we always prefer to use) and is only a 5 minute walk from Edgware Road and also Hyde Park. Would certainly stay here again.

Good value, no nonsense, clean, comfortable and spacious accommodation.

A breath of fresh air amongst a sea of London hotels offering poor service and pokey hotels at silly prices.
Only criticism is, I'd rather pay a few pounds more for better quality ingredients in the cooked breakfast, which was mediocre.

One night on business in the Paddington area

The small but perfectly formed single room was ideal for a single night stop. Everything was in a pristine condition. It had a desk and chair to work at and was very peaceful being at the back of the premises. I imagine anyone with a portly figure might have struggled in the narrow shower. Breakfast room was pleasant, two staff on duty very obliging and food good. Struggled with a wifi connection in the evening but Ok in the morning.

Lovely hotel, shame bout misrepresentation

First the bad news. My Mum is disabled with a large wheelchair, needed a ramp which wasn't equipped 4 the size + my Mum came off 1 time! Door frames not wide enough so difficulty getting 2 our room. Nice hotel for able bodied, rooms decor modern, lovely breakfast, reasonable price, would stay again but not with my Mum, not recommend for wheel chair users.

Super staff.

All the staff in this hotel were so polite, friendly and helpful. We had a good sized room and even though it was in the basement it still was light and airy. Bath with powerful shower and a fridge in the room. Breakfast was fine, nothing outstanding, but certainly nothing to complain about. Service was quick. It is in a very pleasant and reasonably quiet area of London within walking distance of Paddington and Hyde Park.

Darlington review

One of the better hotels I have stayed at, which is convenient for Paddington Station, and is reasonably priced. Like most, it does not have a restaurant, so I tried the 'Room Service' scheme which they subscribe to, whereby local restauaranrts deliver dinner for an extra price. It took over 1.5 hours to arrive and was terrible, because a) it was cold, and b) the various packages had been turned upside down a couple of times by the delivery person, and they provide no cutlery!!!!. Do not use this service.

We will be back!

We stayed at the Darlington Hotel due to it's location (close to Paddington Stn) and the positive reviews of others. We would echo what has generally been said before. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was plentiful, tasty and set you up for the day ahead. The hotel was very clean and had a welcoming feel about it.. My room (a single en-suite) was a little small but it was fine for the duration of my stay. The other room we booked (a double en-suite) was quite a bit bigger. We are hoping to visit London again soon and will use this hotel for sure.

Good base for London work.

Booked quite late. Small hotel, Security good, (keycard to get into hotel and also from reception area to rooms.)
Double room with ensuite, more than adequate with desk, free wifi, tea coffee and 2 bottles of free mineral water in fridge on arrival.
Rooms very warm, first night left windows closed to avoid traffic noise but got very warm. (fan provided but no aircon) For remainder of stay left window open a little. Traffic noise not too bad and slept better.
Breakfast ok though limited choice. cereals etc. with ordered and freshly cooked English breakfast available (though can be a bit greasy). Free coffee drinkable but not particularly nice, for an extra pound you can have a better option, staff at breakfast very good.
No other meal options available in hotel so will have to eat out in evenings. Some local eateries near Paddington station (Angus steak house good food, Garfunkel's food awful).
Paddington station 5 mins walk.
Overall a good little hotel with good service.

Perfectly adequate

We stayed with my sister overnight in a twin beds room. The room was clean, new furniture, the bathroom was clean, enough towels, room not too small. Breakfast was OK. The staff was very helpful, leaving our bags in storage after check-out the next day was no problem. Also we wanted to check in earlier than their standard check in time, that also was not a problem. Generally for the price we paid I would say the quality was quite good. I would recommend this hotel.

Weekend in London

I just visited London, with my girlfriend, mainly to see a show in Covent Garden. I found this hotel to be in a very convenient location (5 minutes walk from Paddington station), a £15 taxi ride to Covent Garden.
The room had a separate lounge to the en-suite bathroom. The bath was too small as a bath but totally adequate as a shower cubicle. The room, although a little dated, was very good in proportions and was very quiet. The included breakfast (unusual for London) was excellent and the service from all staff was very friendly and helpful. We were even allowed to leave our bags prior to check in and post check out at no charge.
As hotels go in London, I would highly recommend this one regarding location, service and value for money.

Wouldn't bother again

Clean room, but living area separated from a rather tiny bedroom. As I was on the ground floor, I also had to bear with the sound of the underground every few minutes - not the nicest thing after a long day of meetings.
As the tv was in a separate living area, i couldn't even use that to try and drown out the noise.
Despite this, the stay wasn't unpleasant - i just wouldn't bother again.

I can't tell a lie - this place was immense!

Nicely situated close to Lancaster Gate and Paddington Tube and mainline this is a very able hotel. The reception staff are not only helpful but they look good too! The hotel is close enough to Hyde Park to go for a jog in the morning and then return for a shower in the modern and spotlessly clean bathroom before proceeding to the LGF for an excellent breakfast cooked freshly for you - what more could a guy ask for. TV had a clear picture and I was upgraded to a small suite which included a lounge with a further TV - smashing! To conclude therefore, a friendly feel hotel , not big but just right - worth all the praise it gets.

The best hotel at this price level I've stayed in

I've been regularly staying in London hotels at this price level for about a decade now, and this one is the best I've found. My room was clean and well decorated (the only shortcoming was the lack of double-glazing, as my room overlooked Sussex Gardens, which is busy all night). Breakfast was very good (choice of 'Continental' or 'Full English').
