The Cooked Breakfast cost more money so only had Cereal & Coffee & I wasn't too happy with the dining area as some of the tables weren't cleared leaving me to share a table with someone else who was quite rude using his lap top at the breakfast table and the cooked eggs didn't look that much alive on one of the Guests plates as it looked like he'd been out on the raz and had a run round the block a million times over so had to go for the other half of my breakfast at a Posh Place in Beckenham called Friends of Mine where I had two beautifully cooked poached eggs with two posh slices of granary bread & also had freshly squeezed orange juice by a beautiful waitress and a Coffee that all come to about 7.78P and I tip the girl 10% of the bill. I hope to get better next time. I was meaning to stay around the Blackheath area of London & for what I paid in Fares as well as accomodation I should of booked up the Claredon Hotel in Blackheath instead.

Hotel was I presume still under renovations/redecoration when we stayed, but that did not stop the staff being very helpful and giving help in locating restraunt etc. in the vicinty.Room was clean and good for the purpose of our stay.
weather this is the hotel's responsibility or not, but the direction from Thornot Heath railway station regarding distance was incorrect, but that didn't spiol our stay.
Would certainly use again.

My experience at this hotel was okay considering the price. Having said that, I booked through late rooms and only paid about 35/night. This would normally be 50 / night, and to be honest I would expect a better hotel for this money.
The room was very small, but the bedding was clean and tidy, the service was good and the bed was made daily and bins emptied etc. The room was very small and the water pressure on the shower was terrible. The window in the room was smashed and bodged up with a wooden panel. There was not too much noise though.
The staff were quite helpful, but the hotel was looking very tired. I noticed that they are improving it, as this room had been recently painted, but looking on the reviews here this 'renovation' has been going on for some time and looks like a cheap DIY job that is taking an extended time to complete.
The breakfast with Late rooms included a plated english, which was adequate and served promptly, so no problems there. The standard options are 'continental', which is a very simple take of just cereral and tea / coffee.
Not the worst hotel in the world, but does need some improvement. It's well overdue that London needs to provide good qualitly accomodation at reasonable prices rather than the dives London is well known for. This hotel is at least trying to move in that direction

Got the room for 36 short notice. Bathroom was badly maintained with cracked tiles and aged shower unit. Bottom of bed was a foot from the wall, and telly was on top of wardrobe, and could barely see it.
Took forever deal with front counter.
Cheap, but you get what you pay for. Will in future book 7 days plus ahead for a 29 travelodge room

Check in was quick as expected and the staff was good too, but unfortunately the good experience ended there. The room was awfully small and looked like junior staff accommodation. I did not have a good sleep at all with noise of people moving outside and a very uncomfortable bed (should not be called a bed at all). Biggest disappointment was the shower, which was so small the person of my height (6ft) had to bend a bit to fit in the space. It took virtually 5 minutes to get my body wet as the flow of water was no more than a trickle. Overall the room was a disgrace and stay completely disastrous. But obviously I did not complaint as I was attending a very important meeting and did not want to spoil my next day too.

It suited us because it was close to the Croydon crematorium/cemetry which we were attending the following day and needed accomodation for one night.
Although you need to be fit when you take a room on the 3rd floor as there is no lift, the room was clean & basic, but 3 of 5 bulbs were out in our room & maintenance could only fix one. No top sheet on beds, & limited toiletries. But overall very good value at 40 for a twin room including plated Engish breakfast ( not a full Engish breakfast) Food was OK. Staff friendly.
Although being woken by workmen outside our door up-dating all the door locks of the rooms on our floor was very noisy.

All the staff I came into contact with were very friendly and helpful. The only food available is breakfast which I found to be ample and enjoyable. However, the dining room does not open until 7am which is difficult as I had to be in the office for 8am.
Considering the amount I paid, it was good value for money. The public areas and my bedroom were very tired looking and in need of redecoration.

When I tried to check in at 2.10 pm. was told room was not ready, so went to nearby croydon for the afternoon, lots of building work going on, very noisy, whilst room was clean the furniture is past its best, no bed lamp only light switch was by door which meant you had to fight to get to your bed in the dark, bathroom also very shabby, but plenty of hot water,
no hairdryer as stated, very well equiped for tea/coffee making. but telly remote only functioned on a few buttons.
Staff was very polite and helpful, food very good.
hotel has great potential, if someone was to spend a few pounds sprucing it up.
overall good value but not a place to take someone to impress.

Have noted all negative reviews but as we used to live in this area we are aware of the general problems associated with welfare situations and the proximity of Lunar House. Am sure that strangers to the area would be apprehensive. Found the hotel staff very pleasant and the Full English breakfast better than some and served with a smile. Appears that carpets are being replaced, reception and stairs done and our bedroom had new carpet. Beds were very comfortable with good quality mattresses and crisp spotless linen. Room was comfortably warm in a bitterly cold spell. Plenty of tea bags etc and ample clean towels. Bathroom could do with being replaced but toilet clean, hot water really hot and invigorating shower. Perhaps we were lucky with our room (216) overlooking back carpark and really quiet once everyone had settled down to sleep. Would have been nice to have a chair in the room, but for 45 incuding breakfast, you can't have everything. I'm sure that if it had been a real problem they would have provided one for us. We have family in the area that we sometimes need to stay over when visiting from the coast ,so would definitely use this accommodation again. Karyl & Bill Sawyer, East Sussex

We were immediately offered another room again not to our satisfaction, us being fussy more than any thing. However, offered a third room, a family room although only two of us. Room was OK we got what we paid for. The room was clean just needed a little up date of the decor. Very good value for money.

The booking said full English but was told I would have to pay 5.00 extra for this but looking at the sorry breakfast cereals laid out I chose to eat elsewhere. I would not stay in this hotel again I'd rather sleep in my car its a damn site larger and cleaner than the room I was given.

Easy to get to and excellent car park.
We paid for a larger room but it was cluttered with surplus furniture. The decoration was tatty, bathroom could do with upgrading (it was very unappealing). The bed was against one wall and there were no bedside lights. Only one central light. They did appear to be replacing the carpets in the corridors which would be a great improvement.
We assumed breakfast included meant full english but this would have been extra. It did not say on menu how much extra it would be.

The staff are friendly & professional & the reception staff are equally polite, helpful, cheerful & eager to assist. The Full English breakfasts are to die for & a are a lovely start to the day.
The cost of my room 45 per night really does not reflect the old fashioned unsightly rooms however so, once this is addressed this will be a nice family run hotel.

For the price...it isnt worth it by a long shot. The room I payed twice as much for as I did at another hotel in Croydon was the size of a closet. The advertised super discount price for the weekends is only good if you call in the reservation. Yet there is no reference to any of those restrictions anywhere to let people know how to optain the weekend discount.. Thereby ensuring that no one from out of the area gets it. The breakfast was fine. Getting served was another story. Each day I was there, it seemed as though the staff didnt learn from the mistakes of the previous days. Tables were not bussed in a timely manner, nor was the orders taken and served in a timely manner. There was not enough staff on hand to run the breakfast efficently. The maids were having to pull double duty as waitresses ....let me rephrase that...the maid was pulling double duty as a waitress. The drinks were left empty and guests had to sit at tables that hadn't been cleaned from the last user while waiting their turn. I have seen feeding time at the stockyards run smoother than breakfast at the Croydon Hotel. Also, the room temperature of the dining area was somewhere in the 90-100 degrees range. So when you take in the inflated cost of the pitiful room (there wasnt enough water pressure to use the shower, i just had to let it trickle on me to rinse off), the 3 ring circus atmosphere of breakfast , and the sauna like temperatures, while you had to wait for the ONE waitress to clear the tables, fill the drink pitchers, restock the glasses, take the orders, and serve the breakfast.... value is the last word that comes to mind. If I had been paying 20 pounds a night....well you get what you pay for. But when your paying as much as well known, and much nicer hotel in a much nicer area, Croydon Hotel falls flat on its face. I paid much more and got far less.
On a positive note....the front desk people were incredibly nice.

The hotel is in the middle of nowhere, you have to get a cab or drive to go out for the night, no near restaurants for miles as we walked it looked more like wembly high street which at night isn't appealing. We found the hotel fine without problems and the car park was just about big enough, when we entered the room there wasn't even breathing space, the bathroom was worst. You could'nt use the loo without banging into the wall because it was so small, the walls were thin so we could hear a lot of people walking past. The only thing I was happy about was that the bed was clean. The whole hotel needs modernising because it's about 30 years behind compared to the hotel next door which was asking for the same amount of money.
