Handy for the O2 Arena - Don't expect great Customer Service

Nice hotel in a handy location for the O2, customer service left a lot to be desired. Staff were rude, unprofessional and unfriendly. The only friendly staff were the ones in the morning serving the breakfast which says a lot considering they had probably been up at the crack of dawn on a Sunday.
Rooms however, were clean and well kept...decor a bit dated but other than that were comfortable and warm.

One Night Only

This was our first visit. The Hotel was easy to get to by public transport and ideal for exploring Greenwich which is just a hop, skip and Bus ride away.
The service was friendly, food fine and room clean. The beds have BLANKETS ! Yipppeeee !
Beware that the Hotel takes Coach parties and there were 2 coaches full of young people :some of which were coming in at gone midnight so we didn't get a good nights sleep. Ok for one night but would not have been to our liking if we were staying longer.

A smile costs nothing

I'm always very reluctant to critisise staff but it is always good that when being 'greeted' after a long day that the staff smile ask how your day/night has been, or at the very least how they can help. My experience was one of having to make myself known and with almost no dialogue and little in the way of a warm welcome I was given a key and brief directions by a sullen member of staff. Admittedly it was 1PM. The morning staff were more helpful and welcoming.

Nice, friendly hotel

Good points: The food was really good, staff friendly and helpful, location is really nice with good restaurants nearby, very competitive rates.
Bad points: There really isn't enough car parking, the room was a bit tatty (though it looks as though they are refurbishing some of them), and shower in the room was more of a dribble (it'll get you clean, but don't expect to enjoy it much.)

Good stay at Clarendon

We enjoyed staying at the Clarendon, Blackheath has a village feel but with easy access to central London. Plenty eating places in the area. Hotel's corridors are a bit of a warren but fine once you get your bearings. Breakfast was good. Only minor blemish was the low pressure shower. Staff were pleasant.

CLARENDON HOTEL, BLACKHEATH VILLAGE

Very impressed with the hotel , staff were friendly and very efficient, a good sized car park at the front.
Room was very clean and there was recent re-decoration. One minor niggle, probably because I work in the Sign trade, a couple of the illuminated letters to the front of the building were out when I arrived at night, this I think can give an adverse impression of the hotel.

Great Hotel

I booked this hotel because it was not far from the O2. Hotel was clean, warm, comfortable and the breakfasts were good in quality and quantity. Nice bar area with a pool table and drinks were not too expensive considering I was in London. Only slight grumble was that the bathroom was a bit small, otherwise a great place to stay.

Our room was spacious and clean but the decor a little tired and dated.
The staff very friendly with the reception staff particularly helpful. They were prepared to go the extra mile and offer advice re transport, local attractions etc.
There was a very long queue for breakfast on Sunday morning but once we got a table, the breakfast was very good. The catering staff were rushed off their feet but remained very polite and efficient.
We stayed here so that we could be convenient for the 02 arena and it worked very well as there is a 24 hour bus service from across the road. This was particularly helpful on the return journey as the majority of spectators were heading for the underground and we got straight on to a bus!

Excellent stay

I actually had to speak to the manager before I left as this was by far the best stay I've had down in London this year and I work away every week. I arrived 10 minutes before dinner was to finish serving the first night and there were no moans or groans about me asking so late and the meal was exceptional. Then to really test the patience of any chef I unfortunately arrived 10 moniutes after the kitchen closed the second night and it was no problem to make me a full meal, the steak was delicious and cooked to perfection, the bar staff were excellent and the waiting staff at breakfast were singing!! Then the lady on reception started humming while waiting for my receipt to print, everyone looked like they enjoyed wokring there! I would recommend to everyone and will definitely try to stay there again.

Quaint location, close to London

The Clarendon Hotel was the perfect location for our trip to London. Blackheath is a small village packed with cute shops and restaurants. A short walk to Greenwich and to the Blackheath station where we easily accessed all that London had to offer. Yet we came back to a quiet village each night after the theatre and/or dinner. A full breakfast was included and the staff was very friendly so we definitely felt as if we received a great value. It was less expensive than staying in London, which we have done before.

Not What it Was

Fantastic position right on the heath but this is now the 6th time I have stayed at the hotel and it does now need some money spending on it to merit the prices. Also i did think after staying there so many times that I could have had an up-grade ! Still great though to stay near the village.

Disappointing

Sorry but found it disappointing.
the hotel is tired and a bit dated and not as grand as it appears from the outside.
some staff on reception cold and not very presentable.
room was stuffy even with window open.
doors banging all night each of the 3 nights we stayed.
but worse of all the very very early morning noise from vans starting up and then left with there noisy diesel engines running because they could not get out of the car park until others came to make access.
overpriced when you don't get a good nights sleep.

Old Fashioned and Not Very Clean

Rooms very old fashioned, sheets and blankets instead of duvets. Ancient TV, only 4 channels. No local information in the room. No extractor fan in bathroon or door lock . Although most of the staff were very friendly and pleasant the receptionist was about to refuse to register me telling me I was too early (by 5 mins!) even though her colleague was checking in other customers. Hallways and communal areas could do with being hoovered, pretty dirty. All in all I would not stay here again and would not recommend it

Excellent hotel - lacking a little in customer service

Stayed at this hotel through 'LateRooms.com' as my normal Premier Inn was full (Business Account). Pleasantly surprised by the size and quality of the hotel, which seem to cater for all. Room was excellent, so was the food. All the normal amenities in the room were there, including trouser press and hand wash, body lotion, and shower-gel. I only have two small issues with this hotel: the TV was smaller than my laptop's screen and fastened to the wall across from the bed very high-up, meaning I struggled to watch the picture (and I have good eyesight!). It also only had analogue channels 1 to 5 (boy are they going to get a surprise soon!). The only other slightly negative comment I have is that I went to breakfast in the morning, was shown to my seat, and was told that it was a self-service buffet; however, someone would ask if I wanted tea/coffee and toast. I had eaten my breakfast from the buffet and left before anyone asked what I would like; I had already asked a waiter if I could get a coffee. I was in the breakfast room for around forty minutes, and the room was not overly busy, so no excuse really. However, the food that I had from the breakfast buffet was excellent.

I would recommend this hotel as a good quality budget hotel. The breakfast was a well managed buffet with good choice.

A great place to visit Greenwich

This a reasonably priced hotel, given its location. The views of the Blackheath are no doubt attractive but the staff advised us that we would have a quieter night at the back and they were right. The rooms are clean and functional although getting a bit dated. The beds felt new and pretty firm, so take a soft topper if you have a need for a softer mattress. The household is quiet, even though there were many guests on the night we stayed. Breakfast was fullsome, if you don't mind a good fry-up for the English breakfast. We ate out at one of the many nearby restaurants as the evening meal did not look too inspiring. We will definitely use this hotel again.

Village-like location , so close to the city

Quiet, with a fantastic view of the heath. We walked into Greenwich across the park and, as you come to the top of the hill, you have the most amazing view of the buildings along the Thames. Reception service was friendly but disorganised, with no bar operating on a Friday night. Good and efficient breakfast service.

Some reception staff not very friendly and minimal on helpfulness.

For me found hotel too crowded with so many people on conferences etc. sometimes at breakfast felt I was in 5 star railway station. When breakfast not so crowded and noisy hotel seemed to be considered a normal one. Room staff very obliging, found restaurant staff, occasionally too quick to clear table and re set, as done when going to servery for another course, came back drinks cleared and felt you were just unseen to have table cleared and re set so quickly.

Great staff, difficult building

This was a last-minute booking, myusual choice of hotel in the area (Premier Inn) was unavailable. The staff were very friendly and helpful but the parking was a nightmare and the layout of the hotel extremely haphazard and confusing. I appreciate the difficulties in trying to modernise an old building but circumnavigating the stairs, firedoors, narrow corridors etc was very difficult with or without luggage. My room was adequate, but small and old-fashioned and to enjoy the best feature of the hotel, the garden, involved buying a drink at the upstairs bar and traipsing through the restaurant.

A decent place!

This cost us £99 for the two of us (one night) at the weekend and it's definitely a cut above the Travelodge type place so we were quite happy - and that included the unlimited breakfast buffet! - though there was a big queue for the dining room on the Sunday morning. Comfortable and welcoming, easily an 8 out of 10! Nice part of London too - a walk across the park to the Docklands Light Railway though obviously not so great if you don't fancy walking. Still at least an 8 though!

The Clarendon hotel is a very nice hotel looking over the village green at Blackheath. My friend and I were going to the o2 to see Neil Diamond and this hotel is nicely situated for the Arena.
The hotel itself was lovely and did a very good breakfast. We would definately like to go there again, maybe for one of their themed weekends.

Breakfast was also very good and although busy with many people arriving at the same time, the staff coped very well. Service was efficient and courteous. Good Service in tired surroundings.

We booked a standard double room for a two night stay. The hotel is a 10 minute taxi ride from the O2 arena. The general level of service was good and friendly - food was generally good. The staff arranged our taxis for us. Our room was on the pokey side with tired decor, although the bathroom was clearly new and although small, was clean. Our room backed onto a car park which was often noisy with people coming and going - and with hotel staff taking their break! There was no double glazing to insulate you from mobile phone conversations and car engines. I would return to the hotel but would pay for a better room, as the standard room we had was slightly disappointing and very small.
PS. Don't use the DLR to Elverson road (as it says on the hotel website), there is no way to then get to the hotel - no taxis at the station. Instead use Blackheath Station - it's then a short walk to the hotel.
