Three out of four room service items wrong, TV in German, poor service!

The reception at this 4-star hotel seemed initially lukewarm, not the usual warm reception you normally get from such hotels. Then we arrived in our room and I was initially impressed with the room. Then the problems started.
All the TV services were written in German therefore were unusable as we don't speak German. A porter came to rectify this and he was unable to do it, but said the channels are in English. What's the point in having extra services then if they can't be used?! After about half an hour of fiddling, another member of staff came and was able to rectify it.
We then noticed that the room contained no tea/coffee facilities, yet this was stated as included in the Club Room which we booked. A minor inconvenience. Later, we ordered room service at around midnight. We ordered salad with balsamic vinegar, and pie with mash, gravy and seasonal vegetables, a cheese platter and tea. The food came and there was no balsamic vinegar on the salad (making it very dry), the pie and mash were missing the gravy and vegetables, and the tea was missing completely! The only thing that was OK was the cheese platter. We complained and got the food and tea replaced, and then they still forgot the vegetables! I deliberated with the night manager who offered me breakfast to be included in the morning to which I said it is already included! He then offered a free drink at breakfast. The breakfast comes with tea, coffee and a selection of juices already! He said there's nothing he can really do then asking me what I expect him to do. I finished by saying I'll just talk to management in the morning to which he suddenly decided to offer the room service food for free (apart from the cheese platter, which I think was a bit cheeky - such a dismal failure in service, I think they should've just took off the entire food bill).
In the morning, I had breakfast and had to leave early so my partner could have breakfast later. When she went for breakfast, she was given a bill! This was obviously sorted out and she didn't have to pay, but it was just the icing on the cake to a pretty awful stay.

The Chamberlain was excellent value for money with breakfast included. The room was spacious, clean & had all mod cons you could need. The customer service was brilliant, whilst checking out, guest waiting to check in were offered coffee and tea. The breakfast was delicious, could not believe it was included in the price. Staff were very attentive. Would recommend to all and will definitely be staying again on my next trip to the Capital! Thank you

Last minute weekend break

Last minute booking which meant that we got a heavily discounted rate, which was great. One of the better hotels I have stayed in. The room was a good size, but the view from the window was of the back of another building. The breakfast and service was very good. Location was very good. Would certainly stay again.

London Weekend Visit

Was really impressed with the location of the hotel, only 10minutes walk from tower bridge. Also had a nice bar as part of the building. Room and hotel were nice and clean. Only small issue we had was with food - Bar charged us for 2x 2 people sharing platters and made it sound like our fault when we checked what we were charged for. (but did seem a busy friday night) And breakfast service was slow (again very busy) no butter until we asked 3 or 4 times also seemed to be a delay in getting coffee out . It has to be said that the food was very tasty and the pie platter at the bar was delicious. really enjoyed our stay as perfect location 5 minutes to the Tower hill Tube made it ideal for getting around the sights and sounds of London.

We initially had a bad impression of the room, as it was very cold when we arrived, and the thermostat was so low that it took several hours to warm up. Could we suggest that attention is paid to the weather re. the room's temperature, perhaps by the housekeeper? We then found that the bathroom towel rail was not working, and were told that all the rails in the hotel were out of action because of some work being carried out. A bad start! However, a heater was provided, plus extra towels, and from that point we had few complaints about the hotel, and would specifically mention the excellent customer service from all the staff who attended to us. One caveat - the breakfast service on the first morning had gone haywire, resulting in our waiting 40 minutes to be served with our breakfast. But it need not have happened if one person had stayed on the door to take guests' room numbers, and made sure that they were dealt with in order. Everyone was doing everything! Once again, on drawing the problem to the staff's attention it was swiftly put right, with a full apology, and a later invitation to have a complementary drink in the bar (we didn't accept, but appreciated the offer). These are small things, but vital for a good hotel to get right, and we feel that without what went wrong we should be saying that the hotel was of a very high standard indeed.

A Pleasant Surprise

A real find in the City. Very good value for a comfortable stay in an expensive city not known for many hotel bargains. Asked for a quiet room and was very pleasantly surprised with a large, tastefully-decorated, well-appointed room--with a four-star bathroom, too. Housekeeping up to the mark: On arrival, there was a bedside lamp between the twin beds not actually working; having reported it, we went out, and on our return, we had two! My only observation of criticism would be that many smaller hotels don't have mattresses on the beds that are of the highest quality, which need replacing sooner than management think--ours in this instance let us down, and a single blemish which could be easily remedied.

Family Break

2 night family break for my sister, dad and I. Hotel is very clean, rooms modern and off a good standard. Arrived at 11am, but were able to access rooms straight away. Staff friendly and helpful with all requests throughout stay. Less than 5 mins walk from Tower Hill Tube and TLR, so ideal for getting around to the sites. Rooms were on the first floor and only criticism would be that there was a fair bit of noise during the night (emptying of glass recycling bins at 5:40am etc). Overall though very pleased with the hotel and would certainly recommend and would stay again.

Quick one day trip to London

The Chamberlain Hotel is conveniently located and of a very good standard with pleasant decor and well-equiped comfortable rooms, ideally suited for a quick "value for money" London break. Breakfast was very pleasant. The only negative was the street noise unavoidable with a room on the front, in our case second floor. As a light sleeper, it meant I had a poor night's sleep. We would certainly consider this hotel again, though a quieter location might be preferable, if there is such a thing in London!

In the room was a lovely card from all of the staff in the hotel. The week end then just got better nothing was too much for the staff and they were all brilliant at meeting our every need , kind, considerate and helpful with lovely small touches that made this anniversary one to remember for the rest of our lives . Brilliant breakfasts that kept us going for the day until we came back for our evening meal Thank you to every one who works in the Chamberlain hotel Chamber Maids, cooks , Waiters/ess receptionists and the manager all of you deserve a gold star. Ww would recommend the Hotel

We stayed at the Chamberlain for one night. The room wasextremely clean and comfy. There were nice added touches such as whilst we were at the theatre they had been in turned the bed back and left chocolates. The bathroom was luxurious. The power shower was so powerful you could have drown under it!! We ordered food after midnight and it was freshly prepared and good quality. Had a good stay and would stay again if we could get a bargain through late rooms again.

The location of the hotel is fantastic, so close to many tube stations taking you on different lines.
When we arrived, checked in early, not a problem, very clean and tidy room, very powerful shower, good space, gnerally a very tidy hotel, with a great pub attached.
Food choice could be better in the pub, however what we had was what we ordered and was good.
Minor traffic noise outside front window, however not a 'main street'

Excellent hotel convenient for tube & bus travel

Stayed on a Friday night which gave us a free English breakfast on the Saturday.Excellent brakfast with a huge choice. Rooms very comfortable and well appointed. Reception staff were friendly & helpful. No complaints at all. The Late Room rate of £90 per room was excellent although I assume it would be higher during the week. Would definitely stay here again and have already recommended it to friends. The number 15 bus leaves from across the road and from the top deck gives a tour of the sights of London (free with our OAP bus pass) however you need to get off it at the Towe, a few minutes walk away on your return as Minories is a one way street. The tube stop is a few minutes away at the Tower of London.

Value for money in very convenient location

Customer service is excellent at this hotel, and reasonable value for money given that London is so expensive. My only gripe on this stay, was the taxi company they're using and this is nothing to do with the service of the hotel, but the taxi service was an hour late on the return to the hotel after a night out and it was pre booked, so I hope they change to some one more reliable. It arrived 10 minutes late , scuffy car and no meter and driver got cross with us as we only knew name of building and street name to our location not postcode as he needed it for sat nav....!
