Castleton Hotel out of 5 Customer Rating
Affordable centrally placed hotel with nice staff and sqeeze-in accomodation.

I booked at latebooking.com. After having checked a couple of hotels in the nearby on the net, I landed on the Castleton, and didn't regret it. However, there were two things I could have survived without; a cold shower the last morning (sunday), and a terrible smell in the bathroom (before it had been used!) the two first days (that disappeard, however).
Dealing with a quite small room and a microscopic shower-alcove, it was nice and quite clean; the bathroom being the cruiseliner type, a plastic "cassette" premade, but assembeled on the spot.
The staff was nice and helpful. Breakfast included greasy bacon and sausages, but lacked vegetables and fruit. The room (placed in 4. floor) was quite silent, altoug close to the noisy elevator.
All in all a good experience given the central place it is located in.

Absolutely fine for the money.

Convenient location, 100m from Paddington station. Single room was tiny but clean and relatively comfortable. The bed was shoe-horned into a tight space and you would struggle to fit if you are over 6ft tall. At £54, it was acceptable for a place to crash after a night out in London.

Cheap and cheerful

I often stay in the B&Bs around Paddington when on business and this is one of the best I've experienced. Cheap (£49), great location and best of all clean and tidy. My room was small but I don't mind that so long as the room is (fairly) modern and clean - it was both. Also, check out the HUGE keyrings on your room key - you won't lose it!!

Really great clean dinky room perfect for crashing for a night - staff bit noisy though?

I was just looking for somewhere to stay over a night because I was working late, and plumped for Castleton becaues the only cheaper options were hostels (and I needed to sleep well enough to concentrate the next day). I just wanted a private room with a reasonable bed that was quiet. On arriving I was quite pleasantly surprised with the hotel being cheap but located in exclusive Bayswater. Great location for getting pretty much anywhere - equidistant from Paddington national rail and Lancaster Gate on the central line. The guy on the help desk was helpful and polite and the whole place is turned out pretty well. The room was very clean and well organised (though really compact!). It has no ironing board / iron but I called down to reception and he go on out for me. There were one or two issues with the room (occasional flickering light) but nothing serious. All in all for a place that was purely for a bit of wifi use and sleeping, it would have been pretty perfect at £44 quid. Unfortunately the staff were pretty terribly noisy in the morning. Banging around and shouting to one another at 6 in the morning. I'm fine listening to music while I sleep in these situation, but I imagine most people would find it unacceptable. Especially if it were the day before / after a long journey. I will take some time to try the Castleton again, because given the staff noise situation I'll be trying out some of the other budget hotels first should the need arise. It's really much nicer than the "one up from a hostel" that I thought it was going to be. Shame about the noise.

London stay

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your hotel, as it was clean and well presented. The staff were polite, and seemed to work extremely hard. The only detrimental comments that I can make, are, that at breakfast, the girls were run off their feet, and seemed to be receiving slightly negative vibes from a few guests, (perhaps they felt that they were paying a much higher price for their stay, than they were). Perhaps an extra pair of hands might help, or a slightly longer window for breakfast, might sort the problem. The staff remained polite and helpful throughout this period, but did seem to be struggling.
The only other point was that the noise from the water tanks, above the forth floor, were quite loud during the night, but once again, for the price of our stay, we realise that we were not at The Ritz. I would certainly use your hotel again, and felt the compeditive price, including breakfast, was the the deal clincher. Thankyou for your welcome.

Very nice clean and friendly hotel and handy parking space

The only thing wrong with room 8 was that it had a generator outside the window which was very noisy all night.
Our son had room 14 or 15 and that was a lovely room with a large window opening out onto a balcony which was very nice. We would stay there again but not in room 8.

Very handy for central london, kensington, hyde park albert hall et al. Very friendly staff. All you'd need for a short stopover BUT a very small basement room was a little disappointing. They clearly pack em in here. The hotel has no social areas and so felt a bit claustrophobic.

Cold and noisy

Although the staff were charming, food good and the room OK, two things marred my stay: firstly the level of noise, not from outside but from doors inside the hotel that seemed to be slamming all night. Also, it was a very cold evening and the room was freezing when I arrived. Even by morning with the heater on full it still hadn't reached a tolerable temperature.

Fine for an overnight or weekend stay

Room was small and clean, ensuite shower 'pod' very small but looked new, very clean and all worked well. The bed was a good size, firm and comfortable, the only drawback for us was having a bedside lamp on one side only. Room was on fourth floor but there is a lift and although our window faced the street it wasn't noisy enough to disturb us. Short walk from Paddington tube exit on Praed St and plenty of restaurants nearby. Staff were very courteous and helpful. Breakfast was a buffet - cereal and a basic full English selection - and we were offered plenty of tea/coffee and toast. Price seemed very reasonable for central London, especially with the breakfast included. We would be happy to stay again.

Well, room was neat and tidy. However, it was in some half-floor and close to A/C, so there was some noise. The most irritating was that it was some very wizzing sound, played at regular intervals, even during the night...It was fine so-so as I was interested at closeness to paddington and having a bed.

Samllest room

The room is okay for a cheap single room in London, and the location was good for close to paddington. I would say that I haven't seen a room like this before. The toliet was at the end of the bed with a thin wall between it and the bed, and no door. The shower was also in the same room (just opposite the toilet), so it was okay for one nights sleep, but I was happy that my stay was only one night. The room was clean and receptionist helpful.

Lovely hotel in a great location for central London but noisy!

Very clean room and staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was s single and was very small with a small en-suite but worked fine for a one night stay, more than that may prove frustrating. The hotel was of a high standard in furnishings and air con in the room was a god send. Only criticisms are that the room keys are stupidly big and with it being on a main busy road with bars and restaurants outside they really need to install double glazing to block out the noise. A sleepless night was due to this alone. Breakfast was yummy too but maybe a bit more variety needed. I's stay here again but arm myself with earplugs!

A bit pricey for the quality

Fried breakfast passable but no fruit whatsoever: just orange juice. Room clean & comfortable if small; en-suite worked Ok but was a plastic moulded unit with a tiny basin and an extremely cramped shower, perhaps designed for a caravan. Staff helpful, but overall the room & breakfast were of a standard I had paid just over half the price for only a few weeks back in a closely neighbouring hotel. I'd stay again if it were cheaper.

Pleasant stay, good value for money. The bathroom was very compact and akin to one you would see in a static caravan however the shower was very powerful. Refurb this place!

We paid plenty, but got a tiny room which is in major need of refurbishment. Walls and bedside tables were marked and old. The room lacked places to put things down, like a folding luggage rack or even some plain old hooks. How about a chair, even? Seemed like they don't care at all about the building or its appearance -- carpet in the main areas was very dirty and the windows hadn't been cleaned in ages. Bed was soft and slanted, I read a management response to a review saying the beds were new but I don't think mine was. We couldn't watch the TV because it was mounted really high on the wall and could not be adjusted -- such a let down when you just want to relax after a day out in the city, and such an amateur mistake for them to have made. Some flat screen TVs have a shadowy and dark picture when you can't view them from directly in front of them. Internet was fast and location was good. Stay elsewhere if possible.

My stay was very disappointing. It was a family weekend, so 3 rooms booked for 2 nights. On our arrival we got stuck in the lift, only to find an Out of Order sign when we returned to the hotel. The lift was then out of service for the whole weekend.
The fire alarm went off on several occassions. This was not appreciated at 6.35am on the Sunday. When I put my complaint to the receptionist on departure I was told the alarm sometimes goes off due to excess steam in the bathrooms !! A poor excuse I think.
