The hotel is near to Paddington Station, Tube, shops and bars. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. My single room was small and ok for me as I was only in there over night. It was clean with a sink and shower. Soap and towels were changed following day. I had a nice view over the park. I would stay again.

The bed was comfortable and it was quiet at night.
If you don't mind about having too much space and are looking for inexpensive accomodation in an excellent location in Central London then the Cardiff Hotel will be perfect.

I stayed at this hotel as was visiting our London office. The location is brilliant - literally one minute walk from Paddington station, and I found the room very clean. It was small, in particular the shower - especially with the shower curtain sucking towards you, but I was very pleased with my stay. I was able to leave my luggage at the hotel during my departure date, allowing me to go into the city and pick up the luggage at the end of the day when I am catching my train home. The food was perfectly fine too, with both a cooked breakfast and cereal, orange juice, fruit etc.

I always enjoy my stays at the cardiff hotel in Paddington and believe I am a regular guest there. The hotel is very welcoming and helpful with any information whatever it may be. The cooked English breakfast is very welcome compared to what other hotels have on offer. Overall I believe the Cardiff Hotel ticks most boxes in what I liik for in a hotel.

On arrival, not sure if I was in eastern europe or london, not one english person in site.
The reception desk was manned by a girl from eastern europe, check in was super fast :) but told us the room was number 32....
After climbing 62 stairs (they have no elevator) to my room carrying my case (22 KGS) and my fianaces (19 KGS) all i could do is quietly say I am dying!!
The steps were so narrow I could not walk straight but had to walk up the steps sideways, the steps were steep and also very very shallow which ment one foot wrong you can kiss your ankles good bye.
I would like to say at this point I am only a young 38 years old and this hotel really did bring me to my knees when carrying the cases up or down the stairs.. (no bell boy or help is offered to guests).
As for the room... 160 pounds for 2 nights... are you joking me..??? There was no shower gel, no shampoo, no toothbrush etc..... nothing, only 3 local chanels on the TV and a bar of soap and a towel... that was it.
As for the breakfast; this was good, sausage, egg. beans, bacon and toast along with cereal, but again where were the english staff?
I had travelled a long way from asia to visit London with my partner, but was slightly embrassed at the service the hotel offered to help with the luggauge, and was confused why a London hotel only had 6 eastern european employees working there...
I think in summary, after travelling to london many times previous and knowing what else is available, i would recommend never staying in a place like this, especially because of the cost they charge.
James
Single room was fit-for-purpose and had TV and tea-making facilities.

Breakfast was OK and all staff seemed very friendly and approachable.
There were two gripes. One was that being on the 4th floor, I was disappointed that I had to walk up the narrow stairs with bags and cases. The second is more important in that I had no hot water for the shower or hand-basin. In both cases the water dribbled out meaning I had to have a cold shower. These things tend to stick in the memory when deciding whether to return or not.

On arrival, Cardiff Hotel looked fine. However, we were staying on the third floor (no problem as we can manage stairs; no lift available). Progressing upstairs the quality of the carpet and decor started to deteriorate. On our approach to the third floor, the carpet was now looking threadbare and in some places in holes. Our bedlinen and towels were snowy white but it all stops there. The room is very small (twin room) and very badly in need of redecoration. The net curtain looked very dirty and the furniture was in need of updating. In one corner of the ceiling there was evidence of a past water leak. Having booked through Laterooms we did wonder whether these clients were allocated the least attractive rooms. However, very friendly staff, and service and breakfast were all excellent. We were also concerned that we were unable to see any visible emergency fire exits or smoke alarms!

management response
Dear Mrs Jackson. Thank you very much for taking the time to send your review. As an owner operated bed and breakfast I was very concerned we were not able to meet your expectations during your stay and I apologise that this was the case. I spent four nights in a single room on the third floor facing the square. I didn't expect a lot for the price, 52 pounds a night, but it turned out better than I thought. The room was quiet and warm, once I'd turned up the dial on the radiator, and the sheets were clean. There wasn't a lot of space but there was enough to put an open suitcase on the floor and walk by. The en-suite bathroom was tiny, however, and it was difficult to use the basin and not bump the tap. Still. it was clean and looked to have been renovated in the past couple of years. Breakfast was a bonus and was decent, with plenty of toast and tea. The staff, while not over talkative, were relaxed and friendly. The place is just a few minutes walk from Paddington station and so handy for the airport. I'd stay here again if I was in London for a few nights and needed a room just for myself.

First impressions are lasting and while desk staff...
First impressions are lasting and while desk staff we encountered did the job clerically there was a distinct lack of warmthand expression of genuine welcome. They almost gave the impression of being on their guard. The number 19 bedroom was described as ensuite, but it really is cramped conditions with a shower and wash hand basin added for 'good measure.' Ensuite normally implies w.c.,w.h.b.and shower. The toilet facility on the landing vitally lacks a wash hand basin. The breakfast provided was good and the staff amenable, helpful and efficient. We did report that the toilet in room 7 would not flush properly. A note was made of this but nothing done about it. These things can sway a person's judgement as to whether to return or not especially if more favourable premises are near at hand. Every missed return visit means a loss of revenue. However the place was clean and warm, with a very acceptable breakfast and the hotel itself is near to facilities. The price is reasonable and I probably would return given that these issues were attended toand overall I enjoyed my stay.

The hotel was very poor value for money. The room was small, very dirty and very noisy. The shower room was ridiculously small and we couldn't actually wash in the sink as it was so small. When I booked over the phone I was told it was a 3 star hotel, which it wasn't, based on my understanding of AA/RAC ratings. A shocking hotel.

The hotel was lovely. I work in Bow, but live 100 miles out of London, and needed a reasonably priced hotel to stay in for one night for a work night out on the town. The hotel staff were polite on my arrival. The room was clean and tidy with a good supply of tea/coffee and a working kettle! The ensuite toilet/shower room was a little small but functional. The bed was fine. The view out of the window was lovely onto the gardens in Norfolk Square. And the full English breakfast included in the price of 46 was tasty and wonderful!! The only bugbear was that the hotel was a bit too far from Camden where we ended up, but this is more my choice of location (couldn't afford any of the hotels closer to Camden!). Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Excellent breakfast served by attentive, friendly staff. No problem leaving lugguage after I had checked out, to pick up later in the day. Only one negative, the room phone could not be used to get an outside line. Some older or infirm guests may find the stairs slightly challenging. Otherwise and excellent choice if you are on a budget.

It is only 1 minutes walk from Paddington Station which makes it very useful and having Hyde Park nearby is great for walks. However you do get what you pay for.
The room was clean but very basic and there is no lift so you will have to lug your bags up the narrow staircases. They oddly didn't seem familiar with the enquiry at breakfast about 'free range eggs' which was a little surprising.
For the location and price it does the job if you are on a tight budget and just want somewhere to lay your head at night and eat breakfast. But it is otherwise not a place that you will want to hang around in during the day. If you have more money to play with then I would consider going more upmarket.

When we arrived room was ready straight away for us to use even though it was not 14:00, which we appreciated after our long journey. Room was on third floor and as there was no lift we found it tiring to take our cases to our room. First impression of room was good as it was clean, tidy and adequate for the money it cost. Breakfast was served quickly and was of very good quality. Overall stay was very pleasant, would use this hotel again. Also hotel very close to Paddington Train station and the Underground so very convenient for travelling around London. The hotel offers a luggage storage service if you need to leave your cases after checkout which we felt was a very useful service, as our journey home was in the evening and this service then allowed us to have one last day of sightseeing without the hassle of cases. All staff we encountered were friendly and helpful.

The hotel was good value for money at 99 for three people B&B and we would stay there again for convenience and price but the room was very small for three and the bathroom was a bit of an experience! It was fine for us for one night but would be too cramped for a longer stay. Friendly staff and we could leave our bags after we checked out which saved us carrying them around all day. We slept well and enjoyed the breakfast. It took us about a minute to get there from Paddington.

Staff very helpful and friendly. Public areas and bedrooms a little down at heel but clean. Breakfast was excellent, good choice of hot and cold items (including lovely jams, honey etc) and individaully cooked hot food, not the stale buffet encountered in many hotels. Bathroom was in need of updating (very difficult to turn shower on and off). But staff were on hand to help very cheerfully with any difficulties.

We enjoyed staying in this hotel and felt that we got a good value for our money. The hotel was very easy to find - very near Paddington Station with lots of restaurants and an internet cafe nearby. The room was small and the bathroom was very, very small, but from what I've heard about London hotel rooms that is the norm. The most important thing to me is that it felt like a very safe place. The food and service were both very good. The only bad thing is that we got a little tired of walking up and down the stairs and we were only on the second floor!!

The rooms were extremely small, particularly the bathrooms. The toilets did not consistently flush. We had to go up 70+ stairs to get to our room, which was particularly challenging given the weight of our bags and the narrowness of the stairs. The breakfast food was fair. The biggest thing going for this hotel is its location - nicely located just a couple minute walk from the Paddington Train Station.

Awful room, up in the attic almost. Perilous flight of stairs to reach room. Movement within room very restricted. Bathroom tiny, you could almost use the toilet, wash basin and shower all at the same time. Due to unavailibilty of double room, we could only book a room used for three people, the mind boggles at three people sharing this confined space. We have stayed at many hotels in the Paddington area, priced similarly, but this was the worst.

On the plus side, location for Paddington excellent and the staff all helpful and friendly. Room was clean.

However although the room size was adequate, the bathroom was so small it was very difficult to actually get to or sit on the toilet. I'm sure a larger person would have found it impossible! No shampoo or shower gel provided.

English (described as famous Cardiff) breakfast was poor, tomato barely warm, and toast literally shown the toaster. Bacon of poor quality and very undercooked.

Will not revisit.

Room was not too bad for three people but if you are 200 pounds or more it would be hard to move in the bathroom/shower. I would recommend this B&B to everyone. The only bad memory is of the nearby grocery shop (Portland food and wine) where I was shortchanged twice and the Indian shopkeeper refused to give my change back. After that we were shopping at Sainsbury at Paddington station - cheaper and much friendlier.

If you can do with a small, clean and well functioning room this is the place. If you plan to triple your cost and have Hilton please do so, - I don't evn if I visit London on company account.
Breakfast is rich, with bacon eggs beans etc. more types of cereals fruit juice etc. It keeps me going all day during business visits.
You get your own key for the front door so time is no problem.
Pricing policy is OK, £55 for a single fully equipped, free coffee etc. Several special discounts available througout the year.
