Summary
I'm grateful to the doom-mongers who posted such critical reviews about the Brompton hotel - I arrived expecting it to be really awful. As it turns out, it was perfectly fine - the staff were particularly sweet. OK, there was a tiny bit of flaking paint on the wall, it took me a while to work out which tap was the cold one (both were hot) and it was a bit noisy at about 11pm when people came home. But the room (double) was only £60 - in the centre of London!
As other reviewer point out, breakfast (juice, tea/coffee, two slices white toast and a boiled egg) arrives on a tray outside your room, at a time that you specify, and they give you a knock on the door to let you know it's there. Quite a lot of reviewers seem critical about this but, as a mother of two, I loved it - the closest thing I've had to breakfast in bed for years!
I guess it could be better but, if it was, most people wouldn't be able to afford it. It's fine and I'd go back - not for a relaxing, romantic, spa, city break, but for a night's stay it's more than adequate.
This is a great location , easy access to buses and tube, easy walk to Kensington High Street, museums and Brompton/Marsden Hospitals. The Staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is tired, carpets in poor condition etc, but it was clean, beds ok, lots of hot water, microwave in room. This is very good value for just somewhere to stay, not if you need luxury rooms. We needed somewhere cheap and close to Brompton Hospital, and this fitted the bill.
Summary
I was given a room which had a faulty shower. I tried to fix it myself and failed. On 2 occasions I rang the reception and asked for help. Eventually a gentlemen turned up but he failed to fix it twice and then I was given another key to have a shower in another room which was inconvenient. The same situation occurred in the morning. The whole episode was a bad experience and it wasted a lot of my time.
Summary
A very strategically placed hotel !
Summary
Convenient for South Kensington Museums, Royal Albert Hall and the London Underground. Excellent restaurants, cafes and shops.
Summary
Great location and easy to find. Room on the smaller side, however, clean well kept and great house keeping. Excellent value for money, a must if your,\'re staying for a short time inner city.
Summary
Hotel was expensive and took payment before and on arrival.Think this is against trade descriptons act.not value for money some health and safety issues I am looking into as a Health and safety consultant. The only breakfast was awful with I believe the toast toasted from frozen and wet in the middle.Did not enjoy the stay at all.
Summary
Despite the excellent location and convenience to the tube station (across the street from South Kensington underground) I was disappointed with the cleanliness of my room and stench of food frying in deep fat oil outside my window 24/7. One night I discovered a cockroach in my bathroom. Breakfast was cheap and cheerful, delivered to your room but hotel staff weren\'t very helpful and seemed to barely speak any English.
Summary
I think the rate charged is a rip-off for the offer::at the time of booking there was advise of there being no lift and I was given a terribly hot room on the 5th floor (glad I did not have leg problems !!) ; no common breakfast room so I got calls from the staff even at 10:30 pm (was already asleep) in order to arrange breakfast time !!!! No choice for breakfast, so the same treatment (toasted bread and 1 egg) every day ...I had several misunderstanding (language problems ??) with the staff who never got one time correct: one out of the many examples is the cab I asked to book for 5:30 am and I got a call at 5 saying the cab was already waiting downstairs !!!!
