ROOM: very very tired, faded wallpaper, tatty patches in the wallpaper, scratched furniture. Grout missing from the tiles in the bathroom. Bed quite hard. View over concrete roof.Despite insisting on a NON-Smoking room the room reeked of smoke and the fake smells they put in to try to hide the smoke, ashtray still in situ. Housekeeping came in 8am and had to be asked to leave.Breakfast was awful, fake scrambled eggs, coffee, burnt stale and overbrewed. Asked for a fresh pot but got more of the same. Staff nonchalontly inattentive. Porridge was OK. Orange juice tasted chemically and watered down.

Although this hotel could do with updating, it is in a fabuous position overlooking the river. You can catch the ferry to the O2 nearby and we also caught the ferry back to Waterloo station to catch our train the next day which was much more fun than the underground. We thought it great value for money and would definitely stay there again.

When you see a 4 Star hotel on offer for £100 per night you should be suspicious. I was not. Room was shoddy. Air conditioning did not work. Temperature inside was 28 degrees and the windows do not open. So like sleeping in a sauna. Even though I was in a non smoker, somehow smoke was channelled in via the air-con. Breakfast was poor-transport cafe standard. Would I have paid £50 more for a nice experience. Defintitely

The hotel is quite large and very accessible to Canary Wharf without difficulty. I was given a free up-grade on arrival - I had originally booked a single room, but was given a large double with a river view, which was lovely. The hotel staff were extremely polite and always friendly and helpful. I only used the restaurant for breakfast, which was very nicely presented with a good choice of food. However, they also have a pizza/pasta restaurant within the hotel, which again was lovely. The staff were extremely accommodating and the food and wine was very reasonably priced .They operate a Happy Hour betwen 6-8 with beer and spirits with mixer priced at £2 and wine about £3 - certainly not what you expect from London Hotels! There was some noise from the LNR at the rear of the hotel, but you got used to it after a short while.Although the decor is a little tired and could do with a bit of modernisation, the overall impression is that it was good value for money, very accessible for where I needed to be for my business meetings, friendly staff, clean room/linen/towels etc, good food and I would certainly stay there again.

I stayed for two days midweek in a fourth floor room and the hotel was terrible. The check in was easy but then the enjoyment of the rest of the experience went swiftly downhill from then on. The room may have been nice about 15 years ago, the shower was poor and sprayed the whole of the bathroom, the facilities were all very tired and aged. There were even intials carved in the furniture in the room. The furniture that wasn't defaced was either broken or worn out and the beds made noises that I hadn't heard since my honeymoon. I was awoken at around 2am every morning with teenagers shouting, screaming and running around the corridors, they were there in mass and were very loud with no sign of staff restraint. The breakfast was of continental style, the tables were only set for ten people and I was alone for this trip, there were no helpfull staff and it was in a boardroom full of.....teenagers, they were everywhere and none were English so I couldn't understand them either. This hotel is not reccomended for anyone other than a foreign school party and I've stayed in better Hostel accomodation, and for over £100 per night, I would not stay ever again.

I've stayed in this hotel a few times, not really though choice but because it's the only hotel near my office that has rooms for under £150 a night. And you can see why. Despite it looking quite opulent from the outside, the rooms are scruffy and pretty dirty. They're tiny, too hot and the temperature controls seem to have no effect. Reception staff aren't overtly unpleasant, but seem to grudgingly do their job. The only glimmer of light I saw during my latest stay was a helpful and genuinely pleasant barman.A horrible, depressing place. Unless I have absolutely no option, I won't be staying again. I'd rather commute from the other side of London to Canary Wharf.

At a 50% I would say this hotel was adequate value for money otherwise I would say it represents poor value . I only went to this hotel as I had to stay at Canary Wharf overnight and this appeared to represent best value for money at short notice. The hotel was need in of redecoration and new furniture. Both the public rooms and the bedroom furniture. walls and equipment was scuffed, stained and in some cases not working. The air conditioning unit was stuck at 25degrees and could not be altered. There was no other accommodation available. Other guests were making complaints about their accommodation to hotel staff as I checked in.I found the staff indifferent and long suffering. I guess their attitude reflected the general level of unhappiness of guests and level of investment in the hotel. I used the pizzeria for an evening meal and the waiter incorrectly took down the order and had to be reminded twice to correct and fulfil the order. The final bill was also presented to include an item that was not eventually supplied.I would only go again out of desperation.

Stayed here a few times and despite a few quirks I quite like it. It feels like a bit of a "has been" hotel - but rooms have been good, clean and equiped as expected and I try to imagine how it might have been 10 years ago! Staff are generally helpful - having the gym and pool on site is a bonus. If you want spotless modern hotel and flat screen multichannel TV, then this isn't for you - but if you want a good comfortable room, a gym, bar, pool and restaurant, and nice views 10 minutes walk from the DLR. At the same price as the Travelodge, this gets my preference every time.

This hotel looks and feels as if it's past it's best. To begin with they took payment before we arrived, without notice. In the evening we ate in the pizzeria but the pizza was so greasy we couldn't eat it. The manager ignored our comments and instead suggested he could put our pizza in a box if we couldn't finish it. We had pre-paid for our breakfast through laterooms.com but the hotel didn't have any record of it and insisted that we pay the full price (£13.50 per person). We politely contested this on checkout and showed them our lateroom booking with the pre-paid breakfast. The receptionist tried everything he could to fob us off, and tried to tell us we had misunderstood the laterooms booking. Amazingly he even suggested that the 'breakfast' payment on my laterooms.com printout 'must be the tax'??? The same receptionist told us it wasn't possible to refund anything, but when at length the manager appeared he quickly directed the receptionist to do just that. Awful service, go elsewhere.

I stayed at the Britannia International on Marsh Wall on Friday 13th November 2009. I chose this hotel as it close to the O2 Arena where I was meeting colleagues to see a concert. My stay in London at this hotel was not a pleasant one and I would have serious reservations at staying at this hotel again. After a 3 hour drive from Camberely on the M25 in the driving rain and numerous roadworks I arrived at the hotel having parked up. I walked over to a lady bearing the name badge Natalia who was on reception. She looked up and said "I'll be with you in a few second". The seconds turned into minutes as she shuffled papers and totally ignored me. I was becoming irratated not lease because I needed the toilet and was being ignored. Even her colleague an Indian guy on the desk next to her looked over at her a few times as he could see I was becoming impatient. When she finally dealt with me she was surly and abrasive - "Your ID", a please or thank you wouldnt have killed her. This wasnt a one off as she checked me out when I paid for my parking and she was equally as rude and unhelpful. I was at no time rude to her although I did complain about my room. At a time with 2.5M unemployed is this the best this hotel can do in terms of staff - this lady is the worst example of customer services and shouldnt be in a job. People serving burgers for minimum wage have a harder job and yet they can be polite and friendly so why couldnt she? When I booked my room it was advertised as air conditioned however room 905 had either heating at 25C or switched off. The room was like a sauna so much so I had to get maintenance man who was the most pleasant person I met during my stay to open the window. With storms battering London that night the huge glass and metal window wouldnt close and kept flying open and was in danger of falling out due to the force of the gales. So at 3.30am I had to get someone up to close it again -not exactly an uninterupted night of sleep. As I work in London but live in Cambridgeshire I regularly stay in London and this was not a good experience. I am going with friends to the O2 in December to see Paul Mcartney and was going to stay at this hotel and suggest my friends do the same but after last week a Travelodge would offer a more memorable experience and better night's sleep.

Having a great deal from last minute .com is no guarantee of a good nights sleep at the Britannia Hotel. Cheek by jowl to a busy building site and well within a somnambalists curse of the overhead DLR, all even numbered bedrooms from around 280 to 320 on floors 1 to 9 are blessed with a volume of noise sufficient to guarantee the loss of a good nights sleep -which is why they are so heavily discounted. To be fair, they did try to upgrade me (and other guests) for an extra £30 per person per day to a room on the other side of the hotel on check in, even giving me the keys to tke a look but the difference was slght, though quieter.Couple of years on when the next door building is completed, the noise from the DLR may bemasked by the new building. On the posistive side, the views are fine, there's a choice of daily newspapers, and the staff care. The quality of the breakfasts and dinner was superb and good value for money. Very good value for money; you won't go hungry here and the bar drinks are reasonably priced. With the above DLR caveat, I would recommend the hotelYou should be happy with the quieter rooms, otherwise a good choice for ravenous audio challenged guests.
