We were pleased with the room upon arrival and began to relax and chill out after long journey however we walked in on which was really embarrassing and killed the moment! We then put do not disturb sign on the door and this time there was a knock on the door asking us to change rooms. We went down to reception it became apparent that there had been a mix up so we given free full English breakfast. We then thought we would use the jacuzzi bath, filled it up, got in...it didn't work! So we had to call reception who came to inspect it and said we would have to move rooms as there was noone to fix it. So a wasted afternoon to be honest which should have been quality time with my partner.

stayed in this hotel when it first open and it was excellent, however now it seems to have slid downhill abit. The rooms are very clean and no problems there however the bathroom smelt musty from the jacuzzi bath and also the toilet was not bolted to the floor which led to an interesting experience when you sat on it!!! Seems to cater mainly to foreign coach parties these days so maybe they are now just interested ina quick turnaround.

I have stayed at this hotel a few times. It is well placed, near south quay DLR station and overlooking the water. The rooms are well appointed and clean. Downstairs is a gym and pool area that promises much. However, each time I go some equipment is out of action usually for the entire stay. This time it was the turn of the Jaccuzzi, taped off and lying mournfully in the corner. I was visiting on business, but if I had booked this for a leisure break I would have been quite disappointed.

I didn't arrive until 2am as I was working late in the city. I'd paid 141.05 for a single room with 'cooked breakfast'. The night staff were brilliant and told me there were no more single rooms so gave me an executive room. If I'd paid for the executive room I would have been disappointed. In fact even for 141.05 that far out of the centre I was disappointed. The bed was comfortable (plus point), but the rest of the decor was from the early 1990s including the TV. No mini-bar (at 2am after working I needed a diet coke!) and the shower was old fashioned and the water cold in the morning.
This hotel is used by coach parties of Americans, Chinese and French people from what I saw. Literally hundreds of them in the morning. Oh, and the cooked breakfast? It was a basic continental breakfast. When I checked I was told that's what I'd paid for. Laterooms you need to check your wording - that's against the trade descriptions act! Overall I would only stay here again if I needed to be right in the heart of Canary Wharf or if it was last minute - which it was!

I had pre-booked and paid for a room...
I had pre-booked and paid for a room at this hotel through LateRooms and advised that I would not be arriving till about 10.00pm. I duly arrived at about that time at the end of a day which had started at 6am and included a long train journey and several meetings. I was looking forward to getting an early night as I had an early start the following day. On arrival I was told that the hotel had no knowledge of me. Subsequent enquiries by LateRooms indicate that they appear to have lost the reservation which had been sent to them some 12 days earlier. Production of my reservation confirmation (which I had fortunately taken with me) resulted in the receptionist disappearing for some time. It seemed his return that he was satisfied that I did have a reservation as he proceeded to check me in but then asked me how I wished to pay. I pointed out that the reservation confirmation stated the room was fully pre-paid but notwithstanding that he disappeared again, for an even longer period. On his return he confirmed that I had paid - something I knew already - and gave me the key card. By this time I had been waiting for nearly half an hour. The receptionist stated that I would receive a complimentary breakfast because I had waited; I pointed out that since I had a breakfast meeting the following morning this was of little use to me. I suggested a reduction in the room rate instead but was told this was impossible. I then went up to the 11th floor room only to find that the key card would not work so I had to return to Reception to explain the situation. My re-appearance seemed to be a matter of some amusement for two members of staff on the desk. I was eventually given another card and the receptionist was good enough to accompany me to ensure that it worked this time. By the time I entered the room nearly 45 minutes had elapsed since I entered the hotel. The room was larger than I expected and I guessed (correctly) that I had received an upgrade. However, since I had to leave early the following morning this was of little consolation for my long wait. I have subsequently been in touch with a member of the hotel reception staff. His explanation for the delay I suffered leaves a lot to be desired as is his refusal to offer any compensation. I have been told I might contact a senior member of staff by e:mail if I wish to pursue the matter - but will not receive a reply anytime soon as he is about to go on holiday!!!! 'Nuff said.

We had a drink in the bar and enjoyed being almost on the river. To be honest this was the only hotel we could find at short notice. The staff were very welcoming. The found the decor and furnishings to be somewhat tired and the hotel would benefit from updating. Breakfast was plentiful but unfortunately there didn't seem to be enough staff i.e. it was hard to catch the eye of a waiter/waitress for a cup of tea - the food was self-service. Would probably stay there again.

In the room, the leaflets were old and tea stained, one lamp didn't appear to be working, a handle on the chest of drawers was missing, no hair conditioner, the TV lost signal occasionally, the thermostat also didn't appear to work and my partner found the room stifling. The service at the desk was much worse, however, poor eye contact and not so much as a smile. The woman we first spoke to was difficult to understand, and we had to keep asking her to repeat herself (my partner, who's not English, did not understand her at all). The gentleman dealing with our check out was downright rude and dismissive, and gave a poor impression to leave with. Overall, not at all what I'd expect for 4 stars; the friend we went to see will not be recommending the Hotel in future and neither will we.

I saw quite a few bad reviews for this hotel, but thought I would give it a try anyway. The price per night I got it for was decent. Unfortunately the bad reviews were justified.
On arrival I wanted a show, when turning it on the pipe for the shower was split so water was sprayed everywhere. I had to have a bath instead.
The room was gaudy, the decor needs an update, and needs to be a bit more neutral. The tv in the room was on a table about half a foot off the ground, I don't know how you are meant to even see it from the bed. There was no fridge. The aircon was noisy and ineffective.
A couple weeks prior I stayed at the Premier Inn. That stay was cheaper, and 100% better than my the stay I had with Britannia.

Hotel is not geared up to process anything non-ordinary or additional requests.
Changing room booking to include breakfast took 15 minutes with a receptionist who could only repeat the same lines 20 times, despite me saying 'that is not what I want'.
Heating did not work in my new executive room so they had to provide an electric heater, I would have preferred swapping rooms, but that was too complicated for them.
Breakfast is not worth 13, they charge. Premier Inn charge 7.50 for exactly the same thing and better quality. Different web sites give you room deals with breakfast included, when it may be worth having. That is if you can get to it, since the breakfast can be like a cattle market at 8am
Food is not best quality and you would be best venturing outside.
I stay there repeatedly simply due to the convenient location near where I am working and lack of other budget hotels in the vicinity. It is however, a budget hotel, so if you want something better you will have to travel a little outside Canary Wharf area, to Excel or alternatively up the budget.
The service at the dinner was half-hearted at best - no-one bothered to even take our order for adrink! At the marathon breakfast there was little "marathon" food other than porridge and a very slow toaster. Again service was appalling and we had to find our own tea and coffee no-one was particularly interested in serving us!!!

Despite my less than satisfactory experience of this hotel, I returned due to location and lack of vacancies elsewhere. So take my comments in the light of some pre existing prejudice.
The front desk staff were efficient enough save for two quibbles:
1. their personal conversation was more important than serving a guest
2. despite pre paying for the room, they would not issue a vat receipt until check out.
I was prepared for this hotel's policy of not allowing any ordering of room service when paying by debit card - a point I have made before and despite the fact that I have no such troubles elsewhere.
The room service was OK and the food acceptable - to pub standard.
I had forgotten the need to stipulate a room that does not overlook the DLR. It will keep you awake.
The rooms are in need of upgrading - furniture is tired, there is no minibar and the TV is limited in programme access.
The only attribute I can recommend is the location.

Stayed here when visiting O2 arena for a concert. Ideal location for this venue, only a short walk to Canary Wharf tube then one stop to Greenwich. Hotel is modern but with some traditional furnishings. Public areas are spacious and pleaseant with a nice bar area looking onto the river. Bedroom was clean, pleasant and a decent size. Had dinner in the pizzeria restaurant. Service was awful - almost a 30 min wait just for a pasta dish, and there were only two other tables in at the time. Service for drinks and coffee was also poor. That being said, the food was piping hot and delicious when it did finally appear, only the service let them down. We didn't attempt breakfast as we had a train to catch in the morning ! Returning to the hotel after the concert we went to the bar for a drink - as did many other concert goers staying at the hotel - but again, the service from the bar staff left a lot to be desired.
For a stop-over attending the O2 I would highly recommend this hotel for its location and quality of accomodation, but don't expect too much on the service front.

My wife and I took this hotel on the basis of 40 per person per night for Friday/Saturday i.e. a total cost of 160
Upon arrival we were informed that breakfast was additional and would cost 13.50 each. We were then offered an upgrade to a larger room including breakfast for the price of an additional 60. Thus the whole deal ended up costing 220
The hotel was supposedly a 4 star but our room was not equipped with a safe or mini-bar. The room was badly in need of refurbishing. The bathroom was somewhat basic comprising of basin, WC and bath. The bath shower head was under so much pumped water pressure that it could not be stabilized; thus taking a shower was difficult and annoying.
The breakfast experience can only be described as appalling with abysmal levels of service. In fact the buffet food varied from barely acceptable to reasonable quality, however the toaster was non functional on both days although staff did nothing to discourage persons attempting to use it. There was short/erratic supply of essentials such as tea, coffee and milk.
I would certainly advise future customers to stick to the basic deal and take their breakfast elsewhere.
Personally my wife and I will not be using this hotel again.

Shower is a sprinkler attachment: not a proper device, and there is the odd bit of badly refitted silicon/chipped paint. 1. Parking charges high.
2. All staff very helpful and pleasant with exception of whoever answered the phone when I requested Room Service. Very dull, unhelpful tone which spoilt what was otherwise a very pleasant stay.
3. My room (1037) was stated as having WIFI for internet but when I came to try it out the signal was too weak to enable me to get onto the internet as I was too far away from the centre.

Service at breakfast was poor with one member of staff being quite rude, and condersending. They where not helpful at all. Front desk where good. The bar was poorly stocked, with very few choices, and only house wine red or white, take it or leave it. Not what you expect from a hotel of this calibre. It seemed at times to be a 4 star hotel in the surroundings and a 2 star in service and quality. I would not stay again.

I tend not to stay here as the rooms are often hot, noisy (due to the hotel heating system or if you're unlucky with your room allocation - the DLR), the tv has poor reception and the beds are uncomfortable with blankets.
However, when there is a big exhibition on at Excel I thought as it is so convenient for Canary Wharf it was worth a go but after my two night stay I am covered in bites - until this hotel is refurbished I strongly recommend you don't stay here.

The food was bland therefore quality not so good. Quantity of food was sufficent (Buffet). The Pizza bases from the Pizza restaurant in hotel could do with alot more flavour.
The double bed- two single beds together, leaving large gaps and a painful back in the morning.
Service was good from reception staff and the room was clean.

To briefly sum up this hotel - "a shambles".
The room smelt stale, the windows did not open, the air con did not work. TV reception was pitiful, the view would have been good if you could see out of the windows for dirt. The following morning the shower was broken, so I had to transfer rooms, which only happened after complaning to reception.
The attitude of the staff left little to be desired, all the complaints from myself and other guests seemed to be old news and they have heard them several times before - and there were plenty of disgruntled guests.
I would strongly advise against anyone staying here.
Hotel was clean and we had a good size room. The only thing was that our room was smelling a bit musty and damp. Great views of docklands and with the late rooms discount this was very reasonable.

The location is very convenient for me, but the roomwas noisy (and I asked for a quiet room as I had travelled a long way and had time zone sleeping issues) the room was a smokers room and I don't like smoking and I had no internet access which is essential. They made a mistake on check in and didn't allow me to charge services to the room and so embarressed me at breakfast and the english language understanding seemed like an issue on a number of occaisions.

There was confusion with the Late rooms booking. I had to argue that our room rate included breakfast, so make sure your booking makes this clear. The problem was resolved after Hotel Reception rang Late Rooms. Hotel value is good but car parking is very expensive at 21 per 24 hours.

From surly check-in to surly room service operative, this hotel was awful. It's dark and dingy, my room was unfeasably hot and when i found i couldn't open the window i was told that 'the concierge has to come and open / close your window' (!). Couldn't leave the window open because the DLR runs right by (despite asking specifically for a quiet room). Bed was uncomfortable and bed covers were old (scratchy blanket). My only positive feedback is that there was a good shower in the bathroom. Apparently it's a four star - not sure how / why.

A large modern building just south of Canary Wharf, decorated with repro Victoriana. Clean, with friendly staff - but pervasive cigarette smoke in lobby area all weekend (though that may be more a comment on the guests!). Slightly lumpy spring beds in the Executive room we stayed in, Overall, tries to be grander than it is - but not alone in that failing.

From the outset this hotel looked like a cracking deal but having booked it l read several comments to the contray. However l am pleased to say that l found the hotel to be good value for money and a thoroughly pleasant stay. The room was clean and well furnished with a fantastic view of canary wharf. The restaurant was very nice and well priced. It was also a pleasure sitting next to the thames having a drink from the bar.
My only complaint would be the gym which was like like training in an underground sauna. I was also disappointed to hear the man on the leisure club desk had been making inappropriate comments to my partner which put her off returning to the pool area.
Other wise l would give the hotel a 7+ out of 10.

The service was very bad with the receptionist booking me into the wrong room despite confirming with me that i did have an upgraded room. The barman served me a flat glass of champagne after telling me it was probably off, they also had no champagne glasses at the bar and i had to wait 20 minutes for someone to bring some more over. I complained but was not offered any compensation or reduction just excuses for the poor service. The decor looks tatty and tired and is in need of a refurbishment, the tariff doesn't reflect the hotel. A we don't have to try attitude was evident becasue of the location.

Unbelievably poor service, blase to the point of rude staff, zero customer care. Rooms tatty and cheap: our door lock and TV didn't work. Our double room reservation wasn't honoured and we were allocated a quad single bed room with no hint of apology. So much for our get-away-from-the-children romantic weekend! I only understood why this place is so terrible when I spotted on their literature that one of their sister hotels is the Britannia Adelphi in Liverpool - now notorious after that TV documentary. I have actually stayed there and it is the only hotel I have visited more awful than this!
