Found right at the heart of the distinguished Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, the stunning 5* boutique Blakes Hotel is ideally placed for accessing all the attractions of this wonderful corner of London. The trio of museums in South Kensington - The Natural History Museum, Science Museum and the V&A - are well within reach, as is the boutique shopping found along King's Road. Harrods and Hyde Park are not a million miles away.
Getting Around
The hotel is located within Zone 1 of the London Underground network, and as such getting around is very easy. Blakes Hotel is close to two tube stations, Gloucester Road and South Kensington, both of which are on the Circle, District and Piccadilly Lines, allowing direct access to attractions such as Westminster, the Tower of London and Buckingham Palace.
There are also a number of bus routes that will take you into the heart of Londom. Number 14 runs just past Blakes Hotel and heads into the West End, calling at Piccadilly Circus and Chinatown. Number 211 is the ideal service for guests aiming for Westminster, while to get to Victoria take the C1 service.
What To Expect - Rooms
Individually created by renowned designer Anouska Hempel, Blakes Hotel boasts so many breathtaking rooms that whichever one you choose will ensure an elegant, memorable experience. So much so that the hotel is a favourite with visiting celebrities, who enjoy the extra measures taken to ensure the privacy of all guests.
Each room, whilst differently decorated, always guarantees the luxury of a superbly appointed marble bathroom, elegant furniture and all the modern facilities you would expect from this class of boutique hotel. A 2011 refurbishment elevated the hotel to even higher levels than before.
What To Expect - Dining
Blending Eastern and Western cuisines to create one of the most original, striking menus of any London hotel, the award-winning Blakes Restaurant is full of surprises. From appetising salads and sandwiches to a selection of indulgent desserts, the all day menu is perfect for snacking, while the lunch menu offers two courses for £19, three courses for £23.50 or a wonderful Bento box for £19. The dinner menu is full of appetising dishes drawn from a range of influences, and it does not really get any more decadent than blinis with Beluga caviar (£175).
The Chinese Room is a beautifully decorated seating area which includes the wonderful Blakes Hotel bar, perfect for cocktails or a glass of wine. The Japanese Garden is also an ideal location for an early evening get together. The 24-hour room service menu includes sandwiches, salads and soups, while the afternoon tea is as traditional and elegant as it gets.
Anything Else?
Blakes Hotel enjoys celebrity endorsement from Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow, who describes it as "perfect for a romantic trip".
