We never got to stay at this hotel (Best Western) We arrived and paid then was shipped off to another hotel round the corner, with no explainationI have noted from other reviews this has happened to other people, and we saw it happening to other people while we were there (bags being carried town the road to another hotel)I booked this hotel because of the Best Western name and good reputation but I never got itI would guess there is a bit of a scam going on use the the Bast Western name to get the booking and then move them on to a lesser hotel

The bedroom was the most cramped I have ever stayed in with literally no room at the side or end of the twin beds. It was very hot and the air conditioning pretty useless. The bathroom! Ha! What a joke - for contortionists only as you had to climb over the toilet to get in the shower. There was only space for one person turning around to sit on the toilet or stand at the basin. As far as I could tell, all you get extra for being in a Club Room is two small complimentary water bottles and two soft drinks, some extra toiletries and access to a club lounge which was in the basement, tiny and dark. Breakfast was OK but the restaurant was uncomfortably warm and, being in the basement, had no view or natural light. However, on the positive side, the staff were very friendly and helpful - they would have to be to cope with the number of complaints they must receive!

This Best Western is close to Paddinton Station so that you can take the Heathrow Express right from the airport to a staion within 10 minute walk of the hotel. The room was clean but small as is typical of european hotels. Staff was pleasant and always helpful. The breakfast buffet that comes with the room provided a nice variety of breakfast items. Definitely good value for the room rate.

This was a business booking and I tried on two occasions prior to the gust checking in, to pay in full for the room and breakfast only to be told that the only way to do this would be to create a complete copy of the credit card we wanted to use and fax it over to them!....and we wonder why credit card fraud is rife! I passed on our details through another method, yet they didn't take payment and made the guest pay in full before he could get to his room! I complained about this to the manager and not surprisingly I am still waiting for a reply from them. Not a place to go for customer service.

In the Late Rooms list the rooms in this hotel were listed with £500 crossed out and £99 put in for late booking. We understood we would get a 'club room' which talked of fresh flowers and fruit and half a bottle of welcoming wine. Two miserable carnations, a few apples and no corkscrew available didn't represent the luxury room that the £500 usual price suggested. It was an adequate room for the £99 we paid - a basement room, no view, and breakfast across the road in another basement. This was far below what we had been led to expect.

Stayed fri-mon. The first night we were moved to another hotel due to a problem with the hot water supply. When we receieved our room on Saturday, the air condition didn't work and there was a water leak in the hallway outside our door. When we took a shower in the evening we ran out of hot water...We received complimentary breakfasts and the overall service was ok, but I will try another hotel during my next stay in London.

We opted for a club room for the extra space and it was a good room with flowers, fruit and wine on our arrival with water and canned drinks supplied. I was disappointed these were not replenished each night as no allowance was made for subsequent nights in the charge. The room was good altough turn down service only happened two nights out of three. The breakfast room was small and very noisy but the breakfast was good. The room was very clean and the shower room was good. Very quiet at night and well placed for underground etc.

I do not want to fault the staff at reception. They were probably doing the best with what they had. However, I did find it irritating that I was twice told, shortly after my arrival, that someone would come and fix my TV and no one appeared before I had to go out. I asked the duty manager to call me the day I left, as there were also other problems with the room - blocked shower, AC not working, ie I was too cold - and he has emailed but I specifically asked him to call as I have a mountain of emails I haven't managed to get to. He is also unaware of the fact my booking was for a "superior" room as he suggests that had I booked more than a standard room, it wouldn't perhaps have been a shoebox (my words). Whether this is the fault of Late Rooms or the hotel booking service, something needs to be done about this very misleading booking system - if superior room = shoebox, I dread to think what standard would be like. What makes this worse is that I was actually in the hotel because I had to go to a family funeral and be able to get to Heathrow easily to fly out at the crack of dawn the following day so I just needed to be comfortable and avoid the stress of complaining. I will be saying this and more to the guy who mailed me but I cannot recommend people to stay in this hotel unless they get a top notch room - and also dread to think what that would cost! By the way, I also specifically stated I expected money back and he has predictably offered me an upgrade when I book again. Clearly didn't get the message. Hope you do!

For a birthday retreat, I decided to 'go nuts' & book the best room available: the club. On first arrival, I was hit with disappointment. The 'luggage porter service' & express check in didn't happen. Although similar to what was pictured online, the room was far smaller (but clean). Further to this, there was no fridge (so 'extra' soft drinks/white wine were warm), no welcome letter (until we were ready to book out!) & the fruit basket resembled air-line food. The club lounge was also very average, and not as pictured. It was all acceptable, just very basic & not as luxurious as had been suggested. Just about okay for the price paid, but will not be staying again.

Smal, small, small. I stayed in room 321 and my goodness it was small. Barely big enough for single occupancy, never mind double! The room was literally 8' x 10' square with a 3' x 2.5' bathroom, when I woke I thought I had shrunk! On a psoitive note, the room and bathroom were very clean, but were a good trek from hotel reception, (up 5 or 6 flights of stairs, so certainly no good for those less able to climb stairs.Decent room, but worth nowhere near the £277 quoted on the website, infact the £69 I paid was arguably beyond its worth given the room I was in.I only stayed for breakfast and had the 'pleasure' of dining in the very small basement dining room. Standard breakfast fayre on offer and whilst it was okay, I shouldn't think Michellin will be chasing down the chef anytime soon.

When we arrived into the first room we were given someone was fixing the sink in the bathroom, so we went to sit in the bar, the receptionist noticed us and asked if all was ok .. we asked if she could found out how long the maintenance guy would be, when she returned she had another key for another room as she said she wasn't sure how long it would take, and we were upgraded to a Club room. They offer free ice to the room, it was delivered within 3 minutes of placing the call. Would def use again.

I arrived in the evening to be told that the hotel had a 'mainenance issue' and there was no room available. They took payment before telling me this - but they had arranged a room at a sister hotle about 10 mins drive away. They provided a taxi there, and one the next morning to get me to Paddington (the reason I had booked the Shaftesbury in the first place). So, I guess they deserve praise for sorting it out and giving me a room. But it was not so much fun, and extended the whole process of arriving and settling into a room well into the night.

However the room was tiny and impossible to get around without walking into something, really dark and generally a bit shappy - old bedding, curtains didn't close properly, chunks out the paint work, pipes on display, it felt like a two or three star, definitely not four. This hotel is one of the better Shaftsbury properties I've stayed in over the last 6 months. The staff were extremely efficient (it took me less than 60 seconds to checkin). I had a problem with the TV and the shower, both of which were fixed extremely quickly. It's one of the few Shaftsbury hotels in the area that has a bar and serves food in the evenings, which is a bonus. literally a 2 minute walk from Paddington Station, the only real fault I can find with this hotel for the £65 price tag is it's a tad tired looking, although the rooms are fine and they're in the process of refurbing the place.

We were put in the Park Grand Hotel, one min. up the road, because of "maintenance " problems. This hotel seems newly done with fresh modern decor. The room was very well appointed for its size,(widgy) with a good bed, large tv and wifi desk. Complimentary fruit, fresh flowers, loads of speciality teas, and nice biccies all in place. Plus a very efficient walk-in shower etc. And it was amazingly quiet. Only small complaints, no storage space. Wardrobe a narrow alcove by the bed, overwhelmed by one coat! A couple of hooks in the passageway would be a great improvement. Bedside lights are overhead halogen lamps operated from one side of the bed only as is the room lighting. We were only there one night so it wasn't a huge issue but might be for a longer stay. Staff were very courteous and polite. We left our bags there all day after we'd checked out, excellent service. Well worth the late rooms price.

I arrived at my hotel on Wednesday the 3rd March and was informed that I needed to be transfered to a different Best Western hotel as they had problems with the boiler. This was an inconvenience but I understood this situation was out of the hotels control. What wasn't out of the hotel's control was the customer service and the communication between staff working at the hotel. I was told that I would recieve complimentary breakfast but was challenged about this when I arrived at the replacement hotel that evening and then again in the morning, which I hope you appreciate was very frustrating! The fact that I had to relocate meant that my travel plans were disturbed. I asked for a taxi at reception as I had a large amount of heavy luggage. The Receptionist said that she was unable to book this as the tube station was too close. It was within walking distance but with heavy luggage this was a huge problem! I hope that you can address these issues, as you will probably be aware after reading this email it was a very unpleasant stay.

I had specifically booked this hotel as it had been advertised as being good for business travellers with internet access etc etc. The room i had was not in the main hotel but across the street. No lift access although the doorman was on hand to help. The linen from night before was lying in bundles in the hall as we went in - the room was tiny, dark and grubby. It was said that there had been refurbish - that was the small bathroom with shower i think. The room smelled and the window view was the back of the hotel with remnants of carryout boxes etc thrown onto the lower roof below my room. I was to stay 2 nights and had computer work i needed to do while there. This room was not conducive to that so i left losing over £60 in the process as i had already booked in for the two nights. To tell you the truth i would rather have lost all the money than stay. The receptionist was very pleasant and accepted my wish to go having offered to show me another room - i didn't want to stay. Please do not believe the literature on this if you are a business person. Poor value for money and left me wishing i had paid just a little more somewhere else. I am sure it is fine for those visiting the city and not going to spend much time in their room - but that's not the case when you are on business sadly.

Having stayed at a Best Western hotel in Lincoln, I booked this hotel confidently expecting the same standard. At first glance the room was as expected, small but tidy, well equipped and clean. We were satisfied but scratching under the surface revealed tired decor, a shower that soaked the bathroom and a noisy underground that sounded like it was just underneath our bed! When we arrived back at the hotel late (11.30p.m.) on the second night, we discovered that the electric lights in our room were not functioning. The best help offered was to change our room - not appealing at that time of night and because we were asked to pay on checking in - rather unsual, we were not offered any compensation. Would I stay there again no because choice is certainly not a problem in London. Would I recommend it perhaps but insist on a room that isn't on the ground floor and definately not room 30.

Unfortunately because we were delayed on are way down to London and just had to throw our bags in the room to get to somewhere we did not want to reject the room at that time, we arrived back to the hotel very late all we wanted was to sleep. The room was on the ground floor, noisy from out side, the window was very old and not double glazed the position of the bed was right next to the window which was very drafty, which was not ideal for our first night, the second night was even worst because the heating failed during the night so we got up to a very cold room.Other rooms may be better but it would be interesting if any other late room bookings get room 30, if you do reject it straight away. Happy travelling.

There was a large queue when we arrived to check in. There was obviously a problem with our room as the receptionist had to make a call (but didn;'t tell us anything) and gave us a different room than on our pre-printed check in details. The room (a club-room, so supposedly better standard) was pleasantly furnished but very small and a strange wedge shape in the basement. None of the club-room inclusive items were present such as milk (for drinks), soft drinks, bottle of wine, bath robes etc. I rang reception (the other side of the road) but the phone did not work, so I went back to stand in an even longer queue. Once at the front, the receptionist claimed that we would get these things at 6pm with the turn-down service. I pointed out that their information did not say this, and they eventually agreed to bring things straight over (which they did).Breakfast the next morning was OK - but things kept running out. The room was very full with a queue outside, and we had to share a table. There didn't seem enouugh staff as they were rushing around but there were long waits for fresh food, tables to be cleared etc.

It was only the following evening when I asked where the bar and restaurant were that I was told there was no facilities for dining except during breakfast hours at this hotel or the one I had originally booked. Neither hotels website mentioned closure of the restaurant, the in-room information made mention of the catering facilities ad did the information service on the TV in the room. As a single female staying in an unfamiliar area being able to dine within the hotel itself is something that i look for when booking a hotel espacially during the winter when it is darker. If facilities are not available then this should be made clear on the websites or at least when checking in.

Arrived at hotel to be informed that they could not check me in as there was a boiler problem. Fair enough, can't be helped. I was not offered a choice of alternative accomodation and when I asked about the standard of hotel I was being moved to I was told it was the same rating. I was moved to accomodation which was more like serviced appartments, as it happened because I hadn't booked breakfast it wasn't the end of the world but could have been an issue if someone was hoping to enjoy a relaxed breakfast in the hotel. However having been given a taxi to take me to the other hotel the driver then didn't know how to get there and I was subsequently late for a meeting!

Room small which is acceptable at the price. however, the shower is very small and is in fact dangerous to enter and exit since the opening is too tight - it would be all too possible to slip on a wet surface and incur a nasty injury. Also the door to the bathroom would not fully open without banging on the toilet.Light provision is very good and is perfectly acceptable for working by. Providing a double standard lamp with reading light facility is very useful.

The room was located round a series of bends ending in a tiny room that housed 1 single bed, a tiny ensuite shower room and a window that was accessible from the tiny back yard that was open to the road and was full of old furniture. For £75 room only this was not value for money. I have stayed at the Park Inn Hyde Park for £95 inclusive bed and breakfast and with a large room!

On arriving at the hotel we were told there was a problem with our room and that we were being moved to an alternative hotel in Earls Court. This was inconvenient as we had picked this hotel based on its location. On arriving at the new location, we were unable to check in early which the old hotel had assured us was ok due to the change of venue. When we did eventually check in at 4pm we were given a so called 'club room' in the basement with no window and was very stuffy. It wasn't until we complained to the manager that we were eventually given an acceptable room on the third floor. The room was comfortable, clean and a good size - it just took far too long and a lot of hassle to get to that stage on what was only a one night stay.

On checking in, I was advised that there was a problem with the maintenance of the single rooms and informed that they would arange for a taxi to take me to another hotel. As a single woman travelling alone, I felt far from comfortable being taken in a cab (not a standard black cab) to an unknown location, though I had asked for the address and phone number to be written down for me. The cab took longer to arrive than I was told it would, then the journey was certainly not just 'a couple of minutes'. Why, with the benefit of my phone number, had the hotel not called me earlier in the day to save me the journey to them in the first place? The redeeming feature of this tale is that I ended up in the Montcalm Hotel near Marble Arch which was truly lovely and I would definitely stay there again. I wouldn't trust Best Western hotels again.

After arriving at the hotel at around pm...
After arriving at the hotel at around 10pm, I joined a long queue of people checking in which took about 15 mins. I was then told that there was maintenance work being carried out in 'my' room and that I would be taken to another hotel and should wait in the reception for a taxi. I was told that the hotel was about half a mile away. I then waited about another 10 minutes for the taxi which was an unmarked car and I was then taken to a hotel about 2 miles away. I eventually checked in to the other hotel at around 11.15pm. I had booked the Shaftesbury Best Western because it was very close to where I was working the next day so wasn't very happy to then have to get another taxi to the office in the morning. I think that this was an inappropriate way to deal with a female travelling on their own in London at night. There was a distinct lack of communication about where I was going and who with. If there was no room for me then they should have phoned during the day to tell me.

I should have guessed that a star hotel...
I should have guessed that a 4 star hotel in London for 79 pounds was too good to be true. When I arrived in what appeared to be a shabby 2 star type lobby, the receptionist tried to send me to a "sister hotel around the corner". I waived my Late Rooms confirmation at him & another receptionist intervened. Apparently they did have a room for me afterall - her colleague had been "mistaken". My room was in an accomodation block over the road, in the basement. When I opened the room door two things hit me - the size was tiny and the musky smell was overwhelming. Having paid in full when I checked in ("company policy" apparently) and because I was running late for a meeting I deceided to stay anyway. Big mistake. It was a thoroughly unpleasant experience. I wouldn't stay there again if you paid me.

I never got to find out what this hotel was like as I was bounced to another hotel, along with several other unhappy people. This hotel needs to get it's booking system sorted out, as this gives a very poor impression of London/UK for visitors arriving from abroad. There were 3 people at the desk complaining when I left.My replacement hotel was fine, but it was several miles from the Shaftesbury Paddington Court.
