We found that the hotel was very clean, in fact they seemed to be cleaning around the clock, however, check in took 40 min, once we got to our room, the room was very small for two people, if fact the door didn't open fully, so was hard to get into the room with your cases and the bathroom well lets see it was clean!!! We booked this hotel using secret rooms, where the hotels are that exclusive they don't want to be named!! Very disappointed with this hotel!! The best thing about this hotel was its location, only 5 min for Paddington Tube Station.

I booked the room as the advertised price was saving over 300! If I had paid the full price I would be suing the hotel now. On arrival I found that my "superior"room (Rm222) was the smallest double room I have ever stayed in - I dread to think what the lower grade rooms are like.. The only way to the window was by climbing over the bed; when in bed my head touched the headboard and my feet touched the opposite wall (I am 6'4"). The shower was so small that I had difficulty getting the lower part of my body wet!. The receptionist was pleasant but made it clear that this was the room that I was getting.

A bad initial experience. we rang the hotel to try and find where it was. Were given dud information that proved to be wrong, hence walked miles in the pouring rain. Given a basement room which we did not like. Then a room right opposite the ventilation controls which made a lot of noise, and then given a third room. quite fed up by this time

I had stayed at this hotel two weeks prior on a business trip so knew exactly what we were in for. Hotel is clean, well turned out with friendly staff. Our program was completely full so really just used it as a dorm and breakfast. Location is good for Tube which had some disruptions for engineering work. Nothing the hotel could do about that.

For 60 per night in August in central London it was fantastic value but it was listed as a four star hotel when I am sure it should have been three star. Reception staff weren't overly helpful (although the porters were). Smallish room even by London standards. The room was cleaned to a high standard every day but there was some discolouration on the walls and some peeling paper etc, maintenance issues really. Location was good - five minutes from either Paddington or Lancaster Gate tube stations and five minutes to Hyde Park. Would have rather stayed in a Travelodge or similar but then couldn't get one as cheap!

The Room was excellent, with good amenities which included a modern bathroom/shower, Flat screen TV and an added bonus of a Fridge. However, the hotel itself was a bit tatty in the public areas, especially the stair case. The Lift was also not available due to being replaced therefore being on the fourth floor was not so good. Did not eat in the hotel so cannot comment on the restaurant. Would stay there again at the same rate which was good value.

We asked for another room but the hotel was fully booked.
The room was clean, but we felt that it was overpriced for its position and a view onto a concrete wall and storage cupboard for the maintenance staff. I've stayed at this hotel before, in a Club Room. I've usually bookd via the hotel website directly and my room upon arrival has been well appointed.
I used late rooms this time because it was 20 cheaper, and upon arrival was shown into a basement 'grotty' room which they tried to tell me was a club room (it had a palque on the door) but the standard was considerably worse!
I did insist on being moved and use my previous ecperiences as a lever. However the desk staff were rude, and I think they possibly hand out the poorer rooms to people booking through agents.

I shall be writing to the hotel group for a gesture of refund. The hotel was little more than a bed and breakfast and not worth even half of what we paid through late rooms. We had to argue about the payment on arrival and had to get Late rooms to intervene again. They said we were being up graded to a club room. This was in the lower basement and I have seen broom cupboards bigger. To get to the wardrobe we had to move a chair into the passage outside. We bumped our head on the wall television to get to the kettle to make tea. I cant see how a full grown man could have gotten into the shower cubicle it was so small. Loo seat wobbly; no window and mould on the tiling. Peeling wall paper and 2 beds pushed together to make it a twin - we might as well have had a double bed. Such close proximity to another person is not nice if you are not their sleeping partner. To get to my side of the bed I had to turn sideways to squeeze past the bottom of the beds and knocked my legs every time. Once sitting on the bed there was no allowance to get off and move around cos there was literally no room to move in. So, once we were back at the room we were prisoners on the bed. I cannot believe that I paid for this room. Breakfast buffet the worst I have experienced. The club lounge was a room the size of a single bedroom with a plastic covered sofa and three bucket chairs and a computer. The staff were rude and I am amazed that Late rooms accept this hotel. Trust me, this hotel is worse than a low budget motel that you usually find on motorway stations. One good thing: coming home. The porters were great in helping us on our way so we tipped them. Never again.

We booked in at the Hotel which was easy and friendly, but when we went to what was supposed to be a superior room we were very disappointed. The room was the length of the bed plus about 10 inches with about 2-3ft on each side. There was a ironing board and iron, but they were propped in the corner by the radiator. We went to reception to check that we had been given the correct room only to be told that it was a superior room. I would hate to see a normal room. We then found that some of the lights didn't work, we had to ask for coffee as there was only 1 sachet and also there was not any soap. The bathroom was not cleaned properly from the last occupant. The shower head could not be adjusted so that it sprayed you, otherwise it fell out of it's holder and had to be left so that it sprayed a bit of you but mainly on the glass. The cubical was so small that you could not move under where it sprayed. the sink had no way of keeping the plug closed so the water had to be running if you washed there. The bed itself was comfortable and the decor was modern, but I would never pay to stay at one of their hotels again. I have also made my feelings felt with the hotel group and await a reply.

This was touted as a discount from 411 to 59. This must breach many aspects of the trades descriptions act as this was never a 411 room. it was tiny, on the third floor and not serviced by an elevator. It was barely worth the 59 we paid for it. And the airconditioning didn't work. Must have been 30 degrees in there.
Had I known the room would have been so poor, I would have paid up to double for a better room. But it was too late. I thought I was being sold a bargain luxury room, not an overpriced box. Perceptions are important here. I would alternatively booked at the Novotel or somewhere where you can get a good sized room for around 100.
In summary, not recommended.

The only problem for us was that the cleaning lady kept waking us up to try to clean our room. We sleep late and every day we were awoken by someone knocking on and then opening our door. Other than that everything was great. Overall a satisfactory experience.

I had stayed here before and the room hadnt been too bad, but this stay was ridiculous. I had booked a so called deluxe single..... What a joke. I have never been in such a tiny room. It was so narrow that I could stand beside the tiny bed, stretch out my arms and touch BOTH walls, I kid you not. Room 011. This is a real joke. I mean it. I did get a more or less good price but even so, it was just too small. It was impossble to sit correctly on the toilet, one had to sit sideways so ones legs would fit, and the shower is almost impossble to use if you have any desire to wash your back.

This was just what I needed, a good priced hotel but nice and clean, with it's own restaurant as was travelling alone on business. The restaurant was closed for some reason & the food was served in the bar so there was a lack of tables, but I got seated. The food menu was basic, with only a few choices but for one night was fine and the food I had was good value, nice and a big portion. Perhaps the menu choice would seem limited if you were staying a few nights.
There were some bars & restaurants nearby but it didn't seem a great place for nightlife/entertainment if that's what you want
The room was clean, with a nice bathroom, kettle and biscuits, so had everything I needed

Stayed here for 4 weeks in various rooms.
Best room I had was a double (Rm 410) which was spacious and good facilities like a 37inch LCD and Free internet (this is free throughout the hotel via network point (cable provided) or wifi in some areas). This was actually a free upgrade so it's worth ringing reservations and asking for this.
Worst room I had was number 120 - This was very small and no room to put a large case on the floor. The shower is small but ok. The position of the toilet means (for a bloke) you have to stand to the side. If you sitting on it then you have to side saddle it and keep the bathroom door open as your knees won't fit (I'm 5'8). Although the worst I had, I've stayed in much worse places and does have a 27inch LCD on the wall too.
If you are getting a single room, request room 223 as this has lots more space and a much larger shower.
Didn't have any food in the hotel but my colleague said the breakfast is pretty good but at 15 you would think so!!
Location is great - 10min walk from Paddington station and Lancaster Gate.

There was NO room for suitcases and can you believe the bed was not even MADE when we walked in. Regardless of seeing this the porter still left us there. Unbelievable. We went straight back to reception and demanded another room and straight away (nice front desk people by the way) they moved us to a bigger room. Why they ddnt put us in one to start with is beyond me..?
Rooms were still very small and quite dismal and dirty. We took the bedspread off straight away - yuk.
Two other points; they have FANTASTIC TV's (42" plasmas in the rooms). Bonus.
The shower is ridiculously small. Although I had booked a room at this hotel, I went to check in, my booking was passed to 3 members of staff, nothing was explained to me whilst waiting. 10 minutes later someone told half of the hotel had been closed because of a leak therfore they didn't have a room for me. No one had bothered to call me either!! I then got told I would be staying at another Best Western Hotel the Shaftesbury Kensington (nice hotel) but on the other side of London. In all fairness they did get a car & driver for me to take me over there! Couldn't help I'd been fobbed off because of paying a reduced rate on Laterooms, call me cynical!! The Best Western Shaftsebury Kensignton was a pleasant hotel but not really in the location I wanted, having said that it was 2 mins from Earls Court tube so not so bad.

We called the reception and explained we're not happy, we were lead to believe we had booked a superior room! They sent over a young man been with them 1 month and hardly spoke english to show us 3 other rooms. we picked one out as the best of a bad bunch. However when we tried to get ready to go out there were more problems, we had to go over to the main reception and state the we were still not happy, asking the question why we were not allocated a roon at the hotel we had booked? On reflection i think i would have preferred to have stayed at a travel lodge, with them you get what it says on the tin !! First the negatives- the single room I stayed in was really TINY. It is impossible to move around the room, or do anything (like work) If you have more than one suitcase you are traveling with, forget it!! The shower was also very small. When I was there, the elevator was out of order. Also, the layout of the rooms is wierd, so you may end up carrying your own luggage up and down stairs, along long corridors etc., even though you are on the same floor as the reception!!! Now the positives - Very close to Paddington, Reasonable rates, spotlessly clean. Contrary to some other reviews, I found the staff at the reception to be quite okay. In summary, if you are traveling alone, and just need a clean bed for the night, go for it.

The place I was taken to was an annex to the 'sister' hotel and was located about 100yds from Earls Court tube station. I was astonished when I was shown to my room - it was more like a ship's cabin than a hotel room - it was tiny! In a floor space of about 10' x 10' there was a bed, desk, shower and loo. A huge flat screen tv at the end of the bed and an air conditioner which worked very effectively. The quality of the fittings and decor was excellent and the bathroom was spotless - fully tiled and the fittings were of good quality. The only problem was that the shower doors had come off their runners. Once I'd got over my surprise at the size of the room it was actually OK for one night. One other negative factor was the noise from the underground - the trains must have run underneath the building as you could hear the rumbling and feel the vibration. The staff were friendly and there were plenty of places to eat round about. At 14.50 for breakfast I decided to give it a miss.

I was a bit worried after reading the reviews on the hotel but was quite happy with it in reality. A very short 3 block walk from Paddington station which was excellent, GREAT front desk staff (and all the rest too) who went out of there way to help in whatever I asked for. The room was smaller than a US hotel of course but it wasnt THAT tiny as other reviewers had led me to believe. Compact would be a better word. I was in the basement but it was very quite and comfortable. No big time luxury but more than adequate for the price and for a weekend in London. The ensuite was good, the shower was small but I am a big man (6'4, 220lb) and still fit and showered OK in it, so I dont know what others where complaining about either. I did have working AC as well, unlike other reviews. All in all, very happy.

On the face of it the level of decoration and presentation was very good but the single room was too small for comfort. Less than 1 foot (30cm) of space around the bed. the sash window had been removed and replaced by a sheet of perspex and would not open although there was a good and essential air conditioning unit. the bathroom looked great - very stylish, lots of quality bottles of shampoo etc - but functionally it left a lot to be desired. the shower was tiny and the doors would not open wide enough (ca. 10") for me to squeeze into the shower (I'm not that big!). I arrived just after midnight and just wanted to get into bed otherwise I would have tried for a different room or hotel. Seemed stupid to have a plasma TV on the wall which was almost as wide as the bed when they could have spent just a few pounds making the room more functional.

I was thoroughly unimpressed with the standard of service I received throughout my one night stay at this hotel.
Whilst Best Western Shaftesbury advertise having an iron in every room and as such there SHOULD have been an iron in the room - when I informed the staff that their was not one it took me one and a half hours and repeated contact with reception to have them send one up. Obviously the staff think that they are the only people on the planet who have a job to do on a Friday evening.
The morning of my departure, when a leak developed in my room (DIRECTLY ABOVE MY BED) I was even more horrified to find that their customer service standards had dropped from the previous evening. It was a full hour before a handy man came into my room, looked at the leak and then left. My bed was soaked and they refused to send a housekeeper to resolve the issue.
All in all - the kind of hotel you would recommend to in-laws or worst enemies.

On my booking I requested a quiet room and was allocated on the basement with my window on the street side without any bars - very vulnerable. In the morning several workingmen were ranging around that window smoking and making a lot of noises.
In this room B02 none of the wall lights were working, the sink was blocked and full of disgusting water and there was no hot water. The electric heater was broken as well. I politely complained to reception and was promised that a maintenance worker will come to my room. 45 minutes wait and nothing. I talked to reception another 3 times. Two employees came to my room more promises and no actions. In the morning I talked to a female employee and she agreed that this room B02 was no fit for women on her own. I did not sleep at all, had no shower and a terrible experience. At my company, I told my colleagues about my unpleasant experience and they found it very shocking. I really would like an explanation, why did I have to have such a stressful time at your Hotel? I paid my bill you did not deliver you minimum services. Very upsetting.

The hotel was close to Paddington, although better directions could be provided by the websites as to which way was best to walk to it from Paddington. At check-in, quite late at night, the receptionist was sullen, and not adequately communicative - I've stayed in other Best Western hotels where the service was brilliant, but it was not so here. Some of the hotel rooms are across the road from the reception/main building, which might well have been a familiar concept for the receptionist but was daunting to me at 10pm in the dark on my own. It all felt very impersonal, and I felt quite vulnerable struggling in the dark with luggage and a hotel door key on the street in this part of London. The room was modern and fairly clean (there were balls of fluff on the floor), with good facilities like kettle-tea-coffee etc - but it was very very small - barely enough room to get round the bed, and the bathroom was effectively a cupboard. The decor was damaged in many places - the walls badly scuffed, and the roman blind unusable. On balance, my stay seemed to reflect what you get in London for the price I paid ... it wasn't the bargain I'd expected as purveyed by LateRooms ...

The best that can be said about the Best Western hotel is that it's cheap and the location is good. If that's all your looking for then go for it - but read on before you do. If you want to enjoy the experience of staying in a London hotel then spend a bit more and go somewhere else.
To be fair we got off too a bad start - they couldn't find our booking (outmoded IT systems - thank you laterooms for your speedy fax), and the lady complaining loudly about a broken bed and lack of help from reception didn't really create a welcoming ambience. Unfortunately the Best Western Paddington doesn't have ANY redeeming features that can make up for this. Except, wait for it, it's cheap!!!
The room we stayed in was cramped, and although clean, it's worn and dreadful decor made it feel shabby and dirty. Bathroom was also clean. Linen seemed ok but the frame and mattress had seen better days - most likely in the early 80s. Only 4 TV channels, no minibar, a faulty hairdryer and no answer from reception when we tried to sort things out. Like I say when rooms are this cheap, then as the time honoured phrase goes "yer pays yer money, yer takes yer chances".
But does the Best Western offer value for money? No. Does it merit it's 3 star rating? You have got to be joking. Would I pay it's standard weekend rate? Now you're being silly...

Hmm, this is a hard hotel to comment on really- The Paddington court is currently undergoing renovations, and the inconvenience of the workmen working aside, it's almost like staying at the same time in two different hotels.
I have stayed in one of the pre- refurb rooms, as most of them are not finished, and it was tiny, shabby, groty, cold etc... But then the refurbished room I had, was pristine, nicely furnished, clean and spacious.
It was SO newly refurbished that the phone and air conditioning hadn't been finished, and the broadband connection was eratic, however, the reception manager who I raised this with, moved heaven and earth and ran around the hotel relentlessly trying to fix this for me- top marks for reception staff service.
The buffet breakfast in this hotel is always good quality and normally good value, however the one evening meal I had was so appaling, badly cooked and presented and waiting staff sitting in the bar watching tv (The evening meals are very unpopular, it would seem!) that I was not charged full price for it upon complaining.
Room service is advertised as 24 hours, however due to some staffing problems it was unavailable outside of restaurant hours- I was advised this was a temporary problem, however when I stayed here the previous month, the situation was the same!
The staff were prepared to go to the local 24 hour shops for you, or order take away food if burgers and kebabs are to your taste- Again, though, the reception staff were left apologising for the other staff, while trying their best.
When the renovations are complete, I think this will be an excellent hotel- I will stick with it, as it seems to be having some teething troubles at the moment.

The hotel was being refurbished and my double room was newly-decorated, very small but clean and comfortable. The staff were all very friendly and I would rate the hotel as a good base when spending a few days on business in London.

Very convenient location, just 5 mins walk from Lancaster Gate tube. single room is good size, bathroom is exceptionally clean and modern. Corridors & paintwork could do with a bit of sprucing up but otherwise was very clean & tidy.
Customer service was polite, although they initially checked me into a room which was already occupied!

I had quite clearly booked a none smoking room and confirmed as such, but on arrival at the hotel my husband & I were shown to a double room which reeked of cigarette smoke. When my husband complained he was at first offered a suite which sounded good until we realized it had only a single bed!! and then they could offer us nothing else. Eventually we were taxied to another hotel (along with another family) and finally got to bed something after 1am. I'm afraid it has made me lose confidence in Best Western and I tend to give them a wide berth now. I think the standard of their hotels is probably reasonably acceptable but their working practices lets them down badly.

On arrival after travelling for a long period we were advised that we not booked into this hotel and were staying at the sister hotel around the corner! we then had to carry our heavy bags around the corner, on arrival at this hotel they queried the booking. The lift was broken and the room was on the top floor, on arrival in the room we discovered a pizza box with half eaten pizza in one of the cupboards! the sash window opened fully which wasn't particularly safe.....however, very good value for the price we paid, I would of be annoyed if I had paid anymore though.

I have stayed in a Best Western before and had quite a pleasant experience so I was very dissapointed by the Paddington Court Hotel. Its old and run down, with showers made for size zero models and rooms just big enough for the bed. It certainly didn't feel like a 3 star rated hotel.

The hotel was fine. My personal criteria is that the room is clean and liveable and a few block walk from Paddington Station. There are local markets nearby to provide economical food if you are on a budget rather than eating in restaurants. Like most European hotels, everything was in miniature scale but that is to be expected and not a negative factor to me. The staff was friendly and helpful although there were some minor language issues that sometimes made creative communication necessary. This, too, is part of the travel experience.

Shocking do not stay here Upon arrival I...
Shocking, do not stay here! Upon arrival, I quickly observed our standard room was far too small. Having stayed in London before, i expected small but this was in a league of it's own. Looking at the 'fire escape' plan, which was stuck to the door, I observed there was some slightly bigger rooms and decided to return to reception to enquire if we cold be moved. - "This is our standard size" the gent on reception remarked. I then offered to pay to be upgraded to a larger room or suite, when he offered to move us for free the next day. We were only staying for 2 nights so I was happy with 50% satisfaction.
It gets worse. At about 7am my fiancee and myself were awoken by hammering and building work. They were carrying out repairs/renovation on the hallway, and to the rooms either side of us. Why put guests into a room sandwiched between ongoing building works? We repacked our bags and left them in the room as instructed, and reminded the gent on reception that this was the case. He confirmed we'd be moved and the hotel would relocate our bags etc.
We arrive back in the evening to the most unhelpful staff of all. Firstly we were made to explain the situation in full then he states the bags were not moved because they were not fully packed! I could barely contain my rage. Unsatisfied with this level of service we now demanded to be moved. We are then made to examine rooms ourselves and then report back with what one we'd like. The two we were permitted to review, were in fact smaller than our original. We return to reception (the time is now midnight, exactly 1 hour after we arrived back), by now totally deflated and demoralised, simply wishing to take our original room back and take the matter up in the morning. The young man at the counter by now realised the obvious failings in customer service and suddenly "a suite" has become available, which we can use free of charge. One wonders why this suite was not available until we were at our wits end and ready to throw in the towel completely, strange and coincidental I think.
The farce continues, when the key card will not open the lobby door across the street. I again return and we're assisted into the building. (still carrying our own 30 kg suitcases each). We climb to the 2nd floor, and yes that's right, the key card will not open the room door now! For fear of completely losing it, my fiancee returns to get the key card reformatted, I remain to cool down with our collective 60 kgs of luggage. Finally, one hour and forty five minutes later, sucess. We're in to our room. This room was about the same size as the original one, but with a fridge and cooking facilities squeezed in to really limit space. We also found a lid from a tin on the bedside table, which underlined the questionable cleanliness overall. The hum from the fridge, which was barely a meter and a half from my head, didn't exactly aide sleep.
My conclusion is, appalling customer service, tiny rooms, even tiny "suites". Just don't stay there!
What is completely confusing and equally disappointing, is we had come straight from a Best Western in Paris the previous night, and the quality and level of service there was phenomenal, compared to the Paddington Court; was absolutely out of this world.
(This is a scaled down version of my letter of complaint to the 'Best' Western group...that's right, 'scaled down').

The room was tiny freezing cold and there...
The room was tiny, freezing cold and there was no hot water. There was apparently a fault with the boiler which meant no hot water in the taps or the radiators. The staff made no attempt to communicate this and I only found out the cause of the intense cold thanks to another guest. Admittedly it cost 45 for the night but even so, hot water isn't too much to ask for. The room also had black damp on the walls and mould in the shower (which I couldn't use anyway). I'd have been incredibly annoyed if I'd paid full price for the room. I wouldn't really want to stay there again unless it was very heavily discounted. It may look good from the outside and the reception and lounge may be very impressive but on balance we'd have been better off in budget hotel chain. At least then maybe I could have showered before my subsequent 5 hour coach journey. Having said that though, assuming they've got the hot water back on and you can get it for 45 a night, you could do a lot worse, especially in Paddington.

The room had a window that did not close which was repaired while I was waiting, the radiator did not work (was provided with a free-standing heater) and the water pressure in the bathroom was very low and only lukewarm. The customer service on discovery of all these problems was most disappointing and on check-out I found a long queue ahead of me with a list of complaints so did not bother to raise these issues with a manager. Regretted that I did not heed the warnings on this hotel and it was overall a totally unsatisfactory and stressful stay. I will not return or use 'Best Western' hotels again.

I subsequently found out that there had been no hot water the previous night. Had I known this upon arrival I would not have agreed for mt credit card to be debited with the full payment and would have probably sought alternative accomadation. On the day of my departure, I was offerd a free breakfast and a refund of 9.00 and the assurance that I would be upgraded the next time I stayed - an offer I am unlikely to take up!
Also, the TV and air con were not working on arrival.

The room was rather overcrowded with furniture. Had 3 people been in there (the number of beds) it would have been hellish. Situated in the basement but had a window onto a stair well so there was some natural light. However, this was obviously the favoured stairwell for staff to smoke and so from around 6am the noise of (admittedly) quiet staff conversations rendered sleep impossible. Never mind, up and about early for a shower. Well, no. No hot water from shower, bath or washbasin. By this time had to leave for a meeting having made the best of a cold shower. Strangely decided not to try out the breakfast.

This hotel is in real need of a refurb which is currently underway. We were put in a bsement room which backed onto an alleyway with a rickety window that didn't lock properly. The sheets weren't clean, the wallpaper peeling off the walls and the shower flooded. The manager was very helpful on the upside! However, we checked ourselves out of this hotel and booked another via the LateRooms call centre. We couldn't face spending the night here as it didn't fulfill a basic standard of cleanliness and safety. I wouldn't recommend this hotel currently.

At checkout, I was one of a line waiting to complain about the qualilty of the room or an issue they had. It may look good in the photographs but in reality it falls very short and they have no idea of term "customer service" ! The only positive comment I have is that the restaurant was clean and the breakfast was of an acceptable quality.
