I have stayed here a few times now. The rooms are lovely and well maintained. The staff are absolutely lovely and the breakfast servos staff are fantastic.
The location of the hotel is ideal for Piccadilly circus and the surrounding areas have lots going on.

Let down

I have stayed at the Shaftesbury Best Western twice before, those times went without any problems but this time I must have been staying above the new renovations to the 2nd floor because I was woken FOUR times by drilling, phoning down 3 times to ask them to be quiet. I work late hours and I choose hotels that have a check out time of 12 noon as this one does. so I sleep late and wake late.
I have written a complaint to them and had no response. Very disappointing

Good choice for an overnight stay

Excellent value for the money considering the location, The room was fine, clean and all the usual things, plenty of tea and coffee, nice bathroom, newspaper, comfy beds and felt safe whilst there. Less than a hundred yards from our theatre, saved money on taxis. Staff were helpful and polite. Not noisy considering where it was, could here the chimes of Big Ben, but slept like a log. Pleased we chose this hotel as it fitted the bill for an overnight stay in central London perfectly.

Overall good stay

Great location , was on first floor directly above a shop selling tourist tat that had a loud boombox going all day , ruined the afternoon nap.
Apart from that great room and nice en suite bathroom.
Had the bits that other 4 star hotels often miss... Dressing gowns, slippers and a good selection of tea and coffee including hot chocolate sachets

The Friday Night Experience

We arrived around 3pm and were given a room. On arrival at the room we found it to be in the middle of being cleaned so we went back down to reception and were given another room.
We went shopping for the rest of the day and arrived back at around 9.45pm to be told the restaurant was closed and there was no bar. I couldn't believe it no one told us the restaurant shut at a specific time not having a bar was unbelievable. Paying £220.00 for a room i expect a bar to be open to a reasonable time in the evening. Then it got worse.
We went to bed around 10.30pm and the noise was horrendous whether the window was open or shut it never made much difference. My wife never slept all night . I would recommend anyone else staying in this hotel did not have a room at the front of the hotel. I will not be returning

We stayed for 1 night only, but can't fault the hotel - staff were very courteous and helpful, room was clean, warm and quiet, breakfast served efficiently and plenty choice even though were were almost the last to eat. If we have a criticism it's that the lift was sometimes slow to arrive, but that is only a minor niggle. Would certainly stay again.

Technical hitches

Fantastic hotel, one or two little minor faults:
1) the TV in room was not working properly, we did not have some channels working
2) hair dryer was not working in the room, but in fairness, the situation was dealt with quite promptly.

Good location but stayed in better rooms for less money

We were in room 105 and there was a strange situation with a fire escape corridor running through our room. This divided the bedroom from the bathroom. It was closed off the other residents but we still felt a bit vunerable in that a member of staff might open up one of the fire doors and land in our bedroom. Some prior warning of this would have been helpful.
I did think that although the location of the hotel for theatres was ideal, at £219 without breakfast for 1 night was rather expensive.

Go Beyond

Location for theatreland is just excellent and plenty of eating places nearby with a wealth of choice in terms of ethnicity, quality and price. My heart sank when we approached the outside of the hotel and entered the reception area but the bed was excellent, the room modern and well appointed and clean. On the Club deal there was a nice selection of fruit awaiting our arrival and mineral water was free of charge. The rattling subterranean Club dining room for breakfast was a bit sparse but the service and food were good, especially the cooked-to-order breakfast. Fruit selection at breakfast was a bit basic.

Excellent hotel deal and quality

We booked the hoitel through laterooms.com for only £109 per night which was very good for a 3/4 star hotel in the centre of leicester square area. I am not sure about the actual rate by the hotel but the lateroom.com was showing $475 per noight which we thought it was too expensive if we had booked directly. The accommodation was very nice, modern and clean so we really had no reason to complain about anything. It has a gym which we did not use but would have been a nice feature if we stayed longer than a night. We are definitely going to try the same hote lfor our next stay but only if the price is as low as we got this time.

Good as a crash pad

Great location, really central. I had a single room which was tiny, though it had a small double bed. Very small bathroom with tiny shower, toilet and small sink but it looked refurbished. Checked in late 11pm, checked out early 8am so really didn't spend long here and didn't eat here either. Dropped my bags here on the morning of my check-in which they were happy to help me with. They had no record of my laterooms booking when i arrived, it was lucky that they could accommodate me at the last minute.

Reception staff were very pleasant and efficient, they also upgraded our executive double to a four poster room with extra space. Brilliant location, especially if you're out for cocktails in Soho, or I guess theatre-land if that's you thing. Short walk from Picadilly Circus underground. The only disappointment was that the curtains around the four poster bed did not draw al the way round which would have been nice for our hangovers.

Great Hotel

We arrived late and left early so can only rate the room. Only gripes were size - very small and heat - room a bit too hot. Otherwise perfect in terms of location, cleanliness and facilities. We asked for a quiet room and got one at the back of the hotel - it was amazingly quiet for Central London! Got the room at a good price and would stay again.

Great location, comfortable but small rooms

I've stayed at this hotel many times over the last 8 or 9 years. It's extremely well located for West end theatres, Chinatown, Soho and Picadillly Circus/Leicester Square. The downside as other commentators have noted is that the room you end up with can be noisy if you're directly on the street, and rooms are rather small. Top tip would be to book only if you can get a good discount through Laterooms! There is a small gym in the basement which I've never used and I've never had breakfast, preferring to take my own; the rooms are well appointed with comfortable bed but small with usually only a shower room (I'll try to add a picture from this stay, which was a double room) - you get two free bottles of water, a platter of fruit and free internet connection, although I found it slow on this occasion. It's ideal for business travellers on their own who are happy to eat out, want enough space to do some work but don't want to pay for top end luxury!

Fantastic hotel

We got a free upgrade to a 4 poster suite, as I paid for an executive suite this was great news! Room was fantastic. Hotel was within easy walking distance to the west end theatres, and is easy to get to if you're using public transport as the nearest underground is literally minutes away. Also, you should pay a visit to the Angus Steakhouse downstairs, best steak I have ever tasted!

Very very excellent given cost, location, service, amenities, etc.

I was very pleasantly surprised at how good the hotel and its quality of service, particularly the staff all of whom were extraordinarily helpful, professional and all around pleasant and inviting demeanor. The location was excellent as an avid theatre goer and its general convenience to all other London points of attraction. It was a brief stay, only 2 nights; however, it was one of the best hotel experiences for the price. I would recommend it highly and shall do so.

Good Hotel

A good hotel in a very busy area of London of a night. Very close to London's theatres so ideal if you don't want to walk very far to see a show, but the down side is it is very noisey outside the hotel and we struggled to get to sleep. Hotel was clean and the staff were helpful but I'm not sure I would stay there again because of the noise.

Very convenient but . . .

The bedroom was extremely cramped, having to climb oiver the corner of the bed to get around the desk and its chair. There was more spare space in the bathroom. The public areas of the hotel were all extremely hot and the air conditioning in he bedroom made little impact. The restaurant is in the basement, gets very hot and there are no views other than walls and other guests. However, the hotel was good vaue for money, it was very central and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

WHAT DID THE WORST REVIEW SAY?
