What this hotel lacks in other quarters it...
What this hotel lacks in other quarters (it could do with a refurb, but then the price would go up?) it makes up for in clean and very comfortable beds, a quiet and central location (great night's sleep), and above all a genuinely friendly welcome (no sign of smile fatigue here). There are many other far 'superior' hotels that could learn lessons from their customer service. At approximately 30 a night cheaper than the neighbouring hotels, this was an ideal base for a family budget break to London for a couple of nights, giving us a bit more to spend while we were there.

Stayed here as I missed my train. Everyone else inthe area wanted 80-105 pounds for one night. I go this stay for 39.00. I got what i paid for. The place was clean, quiet, and I was pleasantly surprised. Don't expect and frills. It's cheap accommodation.
The guy at reception was polite, the room was clean, I slept well.... And caught the 9am train. What more could you want last minute for 39.00 in the center of London??
the staff were friendly, helpful and courteous, the location was perfect for getting to all the sites - walking distance to Covent Garden, tube from Russell Square a short walk and Euston mainline an easy sort walk too. On arrival we were greeted with the news our room was on the top floor, the final flight of stairs being narrow, and no lift, but the guy in reeption took the bags and offered to make arrangements for us to have help when we were checking out again - maybe a room plan on the website would be helpful so that anybody who my have difficulty with the stairs can check their room location in advance of booking? This is a fantastic value for money B&B and I will be recommending to all of my friends

The worst ever room i have stayed in! asked for a quiet room as had exams next day, was given a room in the basement! Room was not more than max 2mts wide and very long like a train compartment. Only one window at the end of the tunnel, felt claustrophobic and hot. Not only did it look like a train but i had the sound effects as well due to the constant noice of the underground and to make matters worse i had the heaviest snorer as my neighbour! What a nightmare.... however i managed to pass the exam

Our double room was so small the door opened directly on to the bed. The room was at the top of a tiny winding staircase, and had a broken window with cling film across the shattered glass.
Luckily for us, we were staying during a heatwave, so were not worried about the huge hole in the window.
We did not try the food, as had to catch an early train, but are glad that we didn't have to if the rest of the shabby hotel is anything to go by. A rip off.

The hotel is situated a short walk from Russell Sq underground which gave us access to the whole of London. We did have a walk back from Piccadilly (by choice) which took half an hour, we could not have asked for a better situated hotel. It was very quiet, there was very little noise at night and there was a member of staff on duty throughout the night.
The hotel was clean (even under the beds) the food was good and the staff very friendly and helpful. On our last day, after we checked out we were able to leave our bags for the day in the hotel whilst we had a day out in London. Nothing was too much trouble.
We are happy to give the Avonmore our seal of approval

I stayed at this hotel for my daughter's 18th birthday. When we arrived there was a warm welcome and a nice birthday greeting which she really liked.
The room was a family room which slept 4 people - a double bed and tow singles divided by a partitioned wall. The room was quite small but adequate for our one night stay. The bathroom was clean but old fashioned and the shower was OK.
It's in a nice Georgian crescent of hotels close to Russell Square tube station, taking us to Leicester Square and the West End to see a show. We visited the British Museum in the morning which was within walking distance.
We had full English breakfast in the morning which was really nice and a choice of cererals and fruit. The service was really good.
I'd say the hotel was really good value for money and I would stay there again.

The hotel is situated in a quiet road alongside a number of other similar sized hotels but still having the convenience of being very close to both Euston and Kings Cross stations. My room was large and comfortable even though I was staying on my own for 2 nights. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The only disappointment for me was the fact that there was no vegetarian cooked breakfast option but there were still plenty of cereals, fruit and yoghurt available and of course toast. Would definitely stay there again as the price for that part of London seemed reasonable.

It's cheap and it's in London. 4 of us stayed in the room and it cost us 27.50 each a night including B & B. I did not have high expectations, thank god! Cheao and cheerful. We eventually found all the things that fell apart in room hilarious, including the old pair of trouers that we found down the side of the bed.

I needed a clean, comfortable hotel to do some work, for which I was paying from my own pocket. This hotel was one-third cheaper than the established chains... but I didn't know what to expect. It exceeded my expectations for a budget hotel. It was clean, and everything was in good working order. Nothing was broken, switches worked, the bathroom was bright, clean and looked after. You got the sense the management cared and didn't have the 'you get what you pay for' attitude many budget b&bs and hotels have. The bed was comfy, the refreshments were all branded and 'fairtrade', and staff were very friendly. What's more, despite being walking distance from Euston and Kings Cross (so you have a world of shops and eateries), it's tucked away in a bit of quiet and open space. Worth every penny, given they don't ask you for many. My one slightly negative comment would be that, although it is a full english breakfast, which it is and freshly cooked, the choice on offer is a bit limited - they could easily provide a little more choice.

It's a five minute walk from Euston and King's Cross and 15 minutes from Oxford St. Breakfast is decent - good choice of cereal and juice plus toast and a fry. Coffee was instant but hey-ho. Good place for a short stay in Central London. Rooms a bit basic but reasonably clean and supplied with TV, tea and coffee and shampoo/soap. Shower was powerful. The hotel is staffed 24 hours so although you have to leave your key, getting in and out was easy. During the week breakfast is served from 0730 til 0900 which didn't suit my times so I did not try it. Paid 45 for a single room through Laterooms but was allocated a triple room so lots of space for one! - Very close to the Novotel and Premier Inn at Euston where I would have paid around 125 for the same night so good value

The hotel was okay but did not look anything like the pictures on the laterooms website. Our room was very very average and I was a little disappointed. It was like a "box" room. Not very big at all! The bed slanted and was not comfortable at all. We were also kept awake by other guests in the hotel and I was staying over to do a mock exam on the Saturday so I was not very pleased at all! However, breakfast was a lot better than I expected. It was great which cheered me up no end.
If you are looking for a cheap hotel and you are not bothered about where u stay, then this hotel is great. However, if you are looking to relax in the hotel and for somewhere peace and quiet, then this is not for you. I would give the hotel 6/10.

Due to us having to get to the Eurostar in the early hours, we were not able to take advantage of the breakfast. However, the staff were so helpful that they allowed us to get boxes of cereal, fruit, fruit juice and milk, which we took to our room. We had our breakfast at 5 in the morning, which allowed us to get to lunch time. We were so pleased with the consideration of the staff and their eagerness to help. We were, on arrival, given a map of the area and places of interest were pointed out. We were in a room on the top floor, which was a little dificult to get to, due to the nature and age of the building (i.e. the stairs narrowed hugely as you reached the top floor, making it slightly difficult to get our bags up). This was a minor thing, which did not affect our stay at all. I would definitely recommend the hotel, but would ask for a lower floor if you have problems with stairs. Extremely happy and represented great value for money.

We sayed for only one night. On our arrival we we met by a very friendly and helpful receptionist. This hotel is in a relatively quiet area and we haad a room at the rear which, although having nothing of interest to look out onto meant that we could leave the window open and have an undisturbed nights sleep. The age of the hotel is evident in the decor and the fact that our windows were single-glazed with metal frames. The room was comfortable but a little box-like (it was in fact a tripple), especially the en-suite bathroom. Our only other concern was fire-safety. I've no doubt ithe hotel has passed fire safety inspections but the room exit and communal spaces had a slightly claustrophobic air and it appeared that the only way out for us in the event of an emergency would be down two flights, through the reception area to the front door. You get what you pay for though and the breakfast spread was very acceptable.

We stayed for 2 nights, Friday & Saturday, the hotel is easily reached from Euston or Kings Cross stations, an easy 5 minute walk from either, the hotel, although basic, has everything you'd need for a short stay, we stayed on the very top floor (4 flights of stairs) so less able bodied visitors are best to reccomend a lower level room as the stairs are fairly steep.
The hotel is located a further 5 minutes from Russells square tube station which links you directly to the centre of London, although, we actually walked back to the hotel a few times from Picadilly Circus, it takes around 20 minutes, and was'nt a hard walk to do at all. The surrounding streets to the hotel are all full of character and there are many shops, bars and restaurants very close by.
The hotel staff were excellent, so friendly and helpfull, they made my stay so much more enjoyable.
The breakfast was good, a choice of cereal, fruit, yoghurt or a cooked breakfast and toast and although it was a basic bacon, sausage, egg, beans & tomato, it more than did the job to start the day.
Overall, the hotel was clean, convenient and the staff were brilliant, for the money you wont find better.

My single 4th floor room had large window looking out at treetops and sky, which offset the size of the room in a pleasant way. The comfortably large bathroom was separated by a few yards across the hall, but it was worth the tiny inconvenience to have the extra space. The location was very good, although a warning to anyone disturbed by noise, there is a pub on the corner and student housing nearby, so things can be a bit noisy at night. Also there is no lift - but staff are extremely gracious and helpful. Larger breakfast than most hotels in similar range.

Sweltering hot with the radiator stuck on full in the tiny bathroom! Down in the basement where the only light and air was from a window overlooking the scruffy inner yard of the hotel; noisy doors banging through the night. This is the place to avoid if you are wanting a cheap stay in London.

booked at very short notice. staff were very nice. breakfast was better than I have had at many a travelodge. room was very spacious but I had a triple all to myself due to the lateness of booking. you have to leave your key at reception when you go out and buzz yourself back in which feels odd but wasn't as troublesome as i expected. the room was single glased and didn't cause a probelm with heat or noise but it was a warm summer night so I couldn't speak for the winter. the reception is on the first floor so leave your bags at the botto of the stairs until you knw what room you are in. plenty of shops within a couple of minutes walk from the hotel if you forget anything like i did. the nearest tube station is kings cross.

This hotel is close to Kings Cross and Euston - 5 minute walk. It overlooks a small green with tennis courts and trees, so it has a pleasant view. I took a single room and it was small but functional and clean with an ensuite shower. The room was single glazed and even though the window was shut there was still a gap allowing air and noise in - maybe I did not understand how those particular windows worked but I was too tired to care. The breakfast was cooked when requested and was tasty. For the price, it was good value.

The hotel is one of many old row houses that have been converted to hotels. It is in a quiet neighborhood convenient to Pancras station (taxi cost 5euros for the trip) where we felt quite safe even though the rooms are so shabby that I would not live there alone. The room was old with lumpy beds that did not sleep very well. The bathroom was in suite (a plus) but with a very small almost inaccessible shower. The two guys that managed the place were marvelous. They carried our bags to our 3rd floor rooms (No, the lift does not work) gave us timely wake-up calls and even called us a taxi at 5am that showed up on time.
For 95 euro, it is a good value for some people (There were 3 of us) but we felt it was too isolated and too shabby for a return visit.
Doris & friends
from Texas and NC
Maybe you should tell people how many floors up without a lift the rooms are? We were fine but others would not be. The hotel was quiet inside but the outside noise was very loud but it was a Friday night. Staff were friendy and helpful but the breakfast was served and cleared way too fast. Loved the sloping room floor! Well positioned hotel and I'd use it again. good value for money.

As others have noted, the room was very small, but otherwise standards were good at this value hotel. Cleaning, shower, breakfast all good. Bed reasonably comfortable. I used the free Wi-Fi which worked well. Breakfast was above average for an economical hotel. If you don't mind a very small bedroom I reccommend it.

The staff were very helpful and friendly, hotel was basic but clean good value for money .Food was good and girls serving very helpful. Bedroom was on third floor and was very small for double but adaquate for our needs as only there for one night and arrived late at night.Very unusual slant to room (floor was sloping) gave us a good laugh glad i was not drunk!. Would recommend hotel to friends.

Rooms are small but adequate. Quiet location - had a room overlooking the gardens which was lovely and quiet (much quieter than other central london hotels despite the lack of double glazing). Best bit was the friendly faces at reception who provided maps and advice free of charge.

One concern! My room on the top floor reached by a steep stairway would have been a problem in an emergency! No fire escape available! A "throw out ladder or rope" from the window might be an idea?

The room was overpriced for what it was, and was very poor quality, but clean. The mattress was lumpy. The reception staff were excellent - very friendly, warm, welcoming and helpful, and almost made up for the horrible seediness of the room. However, the staff in the breakfast room were surly and rude. I was 3 minutes late for breakfast, so they slammed my toast in front of me with a scowl. When I asked for baked beans they were curt when saying that breakfast was over. There are ways of saying pleasantly that a guest is 3 minutes late, and this can perfectly well be expressed courteously and apologetically.

my single room was very small, but suited my needs perfectly (clean en-suite bathroom, shower, bed, tea and coffee, and TV on at the possible minimum of square meters. 24 hour reception with very helpful and friendly staff - all at the center of London, reasonable priced. the perfect choice for everyone who seeks a place to stay for the night, planing to be out in town most of the time. for others it could be claustrophobic. I recommend it and would go there again.

Great value for money and is in a pleasant yet central location. The other hotels surrounding it look considerably more upmarket and the area seemed pretty safe. The staff were very friendly and informative. The general decor was presentable - everything seemed tidy and clean. It was a bit of a hike up several floors to our top floor room without anybody to help with the luggage - but hey for the price what can you expect? The room was compact but big enough for two of us and our luggage and comfortable. There was a definite slant to the floor but the actual cleanliness and presentation of the room was fine. Quite a nice view across the park outside. The lock on the shower room across the corridor did not work properly but the shower room was of basic but hygenic quality. Was walking distance (25 mins) from our central london destinations. Tube station was also very close (5min). Staff were manning the door 24hours a day so we could return late if we wished. Very convinient - would definitely recommend it to anyone who is not too fussy about being pampered but wants an affordable room in central london.

I only needed somewhere to lay my head down before catching an early train from Kings cross. What I got was a very small clean warm room with single bed with TV and en-suite loo/shower. Apart from sleeping, you wouldn't want to spend much time there. In the morning, breakfast (included) was juice, cereals, yogurt, fruit, toast and preserves with tea or coffee. The dining room was clean and the service prompt and friendly. A three minute walk and I was at the railway station. All in all it suited my purpose. I wouldn't recommend it for an extended stay, but for one night in central London, 40 is a bargain.

The staff were very friendly and helped out with the Wifi too. This is in a very good position to the stations at Kings Cross and St Pancras for the Eurostar. Probably one of the very few budget hotels where I"ve felt immediately that I'd got value for money. The buffet breakfast was fine and also friendly staff. There's a fair bit of noise from the street but they can't help this.
If you're staying in London and want the position and are on a budget then I would certainly recommend this hotel.
