Reasonable place to stay

Stayed here for one night, room we had the tv did not work so they moved us to a different room in the basement which was very noisy. Paid £85 for the room so wasent expecting anything fantastic and it was fine for nights stay but wouldnt stay there for any longer really.

The elegant hotel

Conveniently situated hotel for Victoria and Sloane Square . Room tidy and clean (disappointed no fridge), shower very good, tea making facilities, always needed. Continental breakfast, good, although we seemed to miss the pastries, only croissants left. Hotel staff: receptionist very helpful and polite. No lift, a bit difficult to carry cases up narrow stairs to second floor. It felt a very cosy hotel and I would definitely return.

Not a 4 star Hotel

As a business traveller I see quite a lot of hotels and as such I expect certain standards by the star rating and reviews. The information describing this Hotel says it is a Visit England assessed guest accommodation. Remember this if you decide to book because this is not assessed as a Hotel and therefore you won’t get what you are expecting for the price you are paying – you will get B&B standard. If I was assessing this as a hotel and in my opinion I would class this as 2 stars, just. In reality this is budget grade without the budget price. About my room: the room was on the ground floor and for all purposes was a single room with a double bed in it. I had booked a double room to have some extra space but in reality I had to walk around the bed sideways as that was how small the room was. The window didn’t lock, (remember this is on the ground floor so no security), the security mesh at the bottom of the window was so light weight I could just push it out so someone could had opened my window and stepped in without any trouble. The light to one side of the bed flickered, and the light switch where the card inserted to switch the electricity on to the room was worn so I had to push it to get the lights to work. The carpet was stained with heavy usage and there were unsightly marks on it such that I thought twice about taking my shoes off. The bed was soft with overuse and I suggest if you have a bad back you need to give this hotel a miss. The room was very stuffy and whilst there was air conditioning the red light was flashing, was ineffective, could not be regulated and was so loud it could not be left on. The room being on the ground floor was in the thoroughfare of the entrance, (because this is a small hotel with no discrete entrance), so residual noise of guests coming back late or leaving early will wake you. Remember this “hotel” is near Victoria bus station so there will be people leaving very early. The only reason you should stay here is if you are actually using the train or bus station and you want a B&B that is very convenient. The breakfast room has five tables and shares the space with the reception, so if you come at a busy time, don’t expect a seat or quiet with through traffic. I like to find something positive about somewhere and in this instance it is quite hard, but what I would say is that this “hotel” is very well placed for Victoria coach station and might be worth it for the one night before an early departure. Otherwise I won’t be returning.

Room was clean, but it was right by the entrance/reception/breakfast room so terribly noisy

Location is very good and room was clean and neat. However as our room (no: 105) was right by the entrance, it was terribly noisy all night, people coming and going, talking and banging doors. From 7am people (staff?) were shouting and laughing laudly behind our door and breakfast being served next to reception, there was no peace at all. There should be a sign "Please respect other guests and keep quiet" as people don't seem to understand that visitors wish to have peace and quiet and able to sleep. Breakfast area is very small, just a few small tables next to reception desk. For the price we paid we might come back due to good location near Victoria station. But would definitely not stay again if had to have the room 105, or any other on that ground floor. We would recommend this hotel only if it's possible to choose a room upstairs (hoping it's quieter there!)

Good value if you get the right rate

Looks like one of a thousand hotels of doubtful quality that occupy old terraced houses on streets such as this, and around Paddington and Pimlico.
However, the room was a pleasant surprise, being nicely decorated and clean. At £76 this was really good value. Only real negative was the bathroom - pretty cramped. I have never seen such a small shower cubicle. You might not be able to get in if you are fat.
Staff were pleasant. Breakfast was a bit rubbish. There are a few things to help yourself to laid out on some kitchen units. However, breakfast seems often not to be included in the rate for many London hotels.
Hotel is in a good area with some good restaurants and pibs nearby.
Overall, recommended as a pleasant value option, if you are able to get a decent rate.

Looked like really nice hotel...ended up being guest house!! very misleading

We went to london for one night to have a very special night since my bf was leavin for another job far away from me, when we arrived outside the astors hotel, it was more like a smal guests house!!! the website of the hotel looked lovely and very inviting, the receptionist was very friendly and pointed out where are room was which ws nice. our room was more than disapointing, there was hardly any space for both to get ready,
i ended up getting ready in the bathroom which was soo tiny just because my bf needed to use the iron and ironing board which only just fit in the room when the doors are all shut, our romantic night away was not so romantic after all, we are very disappointed in the room space, it was like they just shoved a bed and wardrobe into a little study room!!! in the mornin when we got up, we were told check out time was 11 so we went for breakfast which was the best part of the stay, very nice buffet they had set up and always topped up which was nice,
we went back to our room to finish getting ready and all our stuff together when we had a knock at the door...sorry 4 knocks, i opened the door after quickly getting out of the shower to find housekeeping ready to clean our room at 10am!!! talk about trying to make us leave!! was not a nice we felt rushed out of our rooms.
all in all we did not like the way it was made to look like a lovely hotel then ended up a small guests house! the receptionist that was on when we arrived he was lovely and very polite, the breakfast was also yummy!! but let down by the room.

Satisfactory Room but Disappointing Breakfast

I needed to stay near Victoria Station as I had to catch an early train in the morning. The hotel was very convenient for this reason. I had the room next door to the front door. This wasn't a problem at all, and I slept well. It was a double room so no size problems given I was on my own. Breakfast was disappointing. Entirely self service, including the coffee which was from a push button machine. The fruit salad was cheap diced tinned fruit. The croissants and pastries were edible but not really fresh, so the food was edible but not what one would expect from a hotel with headline room charges of £170. I paid only half price, so for a single night near the station it was convenient.
It's a pity the hotel owner doesn't make a bit more effort - it really wouldn't cost much to provide a much better breakfast, and this would make a considerable difference for the hotel customers.

A lovely town house hotel in an excellent location

The location was excellent, found it really easy to walk from the hotel into all of the attractions including Buckingham Palace and the London Eye. Lots of lovely pubs and restaurants (both chain and independent) nearby in the Victoria area. The room was small (keep in mind it is a town house hotel) but very clean and modern. Extremely comfortable beds and the bathroom was done to a good standard. There is no restaurant in the hotel but the menu for the wine bar & restaurant across the street is included in the info found in the room. Breakfast is very basic continental, but everything was good quality and plenty of everything on offer. Overall a very good experience and would definitely stay again.

Great job!

Fantastic hotel in a really beautiful historic part of London, with a very short walk away from Victoria train and coach station. The room was much larger than we had anticipated (we'd booked a twin room and got two double beds), and had a lovely contemporary feel to it. The complimentary newspapers, water and biscuits in additional to the normal addition of tea, coffee and hot chocolate was a really great touch. The free continental breakfast was much more than we had expected with cereal, fruit, toast, various pastries and even boiled eggs available. The only thing I would say is the breakfast area is a bit small and gets crowded easily but this is a really small issue and as the rest stay was fantastic it’s not something I’d get bothered about. I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely be staying here again.

Lovely!

A very nice hotel in a gorgeous little street which is full of small expensive boutique shops. Room was gorgeous and nice and clean, flat screen tv with high def freeview was also a very nice bonus. We were late to breakfast but the staff still provided food and were very accommodating.
Booked via laterooms and got a cheap price so expected to have a small room on the ground floor backing onto a utlity room, however was pleasantly surprised to have been given a great room up high with no on lookers! :)
A few little down points, hall ways are very small and often had a hoover or a bag of washing left on them, not a big problem but it tainted the whole hotels appeal. Our bathroom door wouldn't lock either. Also there was no room to leave luggage before/after check out.
Great placement being so near to victoria and the tube, lots of attractions near by!
Overall though i highly recommend the hotel to anyone, we had a great stay.

A lot of money for what it is

The hotel and room were clean, and small. And I do mean small. General feel was cramped and slighly claustraphobic. Decor in the room was nice and modern. But you actually have to open the bathroom door to get from the sink into the shower because there isn't enough roOm to open the shower door otherwise. A decent little hotel, but just not worth the mney when you see what you get for a tiny bit more at the Park Plaza, etc.

Only stayed here for one night. got a good rate of £86 for the night compared to the £199 which was offered if youjust walked off the street! and i dont mean to be rude but i would never pay that rate for thishotel. the entrance is quite a small basic reception area, but with friendly staff behind the desk. our room was situated on the top floor, and was clean and comfortable. nice modern decor and bathroom fittings were of the same quality. bed wasnice and comfortable too, with tea and coffe facilities in the room. breakfast was included, which comprised of cereal, toast, yoghurts, and hard boiled eggs and croissants...help yourself. the breakfast area is situated directly adjacent to the reception desk, and has a tv on in the corner for you to watch whilst you eat! good location...about an 8 minute walk to victoria stations(bus and coach) and not alot further on is buckingham palace. not bad just for one night. all i ever really look for is cleanliness and reasonable comfort when it comes to just an overnight stay, but i am glad i never paid the full room rate....that is vastly in excess of its worth! i stayed at the savoy in a junior suite with a bottle of champagne included for only £50 more a couple years ago!!!
