Beware room 4

As we were on the ground floor right behind the reception, we got a lot of smoke smells into our room as people wanting to smoke ventured outside the hotel entrance and stood outside our window. The windows were closed but obviously weren't particularly well insulated as the smell came straight in and lingered...
Great location which suited our purposes but wouldn't stay in this room again.

A gem

Spacious room which was quiet had thick curtains and a radiator I could turn off. Therefore got a great nights sleep. Fantastic location especially for the RSM or the BBC.
Breakfast is very basic, then you get what you pay for as it is included in the room rate, not worth getting out of bed for if your not working.

Business one nighter - budget hotel

Good points:-
Great location for West End/ Oxford St in quiet street; clean; repainted, adequate for 1 night; Older but comfy bed and good pressure older shower and bath with hot water. Everything worked; trouser press; Continental breakfast simple , no fruit, but edible
Not so good points;
Old but fair condition repair room furnishings . Narrow double room (london typical ) but I was single occupant so ok; Cheap flatscreen TV with poor reception and 5 or six chanels only. No info in room. Bathroom had clear glazing with short voile curtain (let them look !). Some tube noise evident -common problem in London - In all ok at a budget discount price. Brilliant location.

Good place to stay

Very happy with this hotel, needed a desk to work and was given a nice spacious room. Only down-side was that there was no restaurant, but plenty of restaurants nearby and the hotel didn't mind taking a take-away pizza to my room.

The hotel at £69 was a reasonable budget hotel for central london. would not pay more though

Basic hotel, clean, good for a one or two night stay in the city. No restaurant however there is a pub on the corner with a good selection and other places to eat and visit within easy walking distance. The hotel is situated off the main road so there is no road noise as is so often a problem in central london.
The staff were friendly and polite however the breakfast room was full and cramped with a fairly basic choice of continental items.

Disappointed

Disappointed on arrival to be informed that due to renovations to an entire floor that we were offered a discounted room on the lower ground. we asked if we could view it first and on seeing it in a glance knew it was unsuitable. being a staff room opposite toilets, next to what seemed like a cleaning cupboard in a dark and dingy area. we had to ask if there not another room available and was relieved there was. we were not a late booking having booked weeks earlier. the room we were subsequently given was adequate, if not very dated especially the bathroom. regarding the breakfast. have had much better offered on the continent.it had the basics but no fruit, any cold meats etc. would i stay again. possibly. if only for the location.

Nice home away from home

Very nice, simple hotel. Good location. Large, studio apt.-like rooms. Heat was fine. Breakfast was worthless.
Our room was on the ground floor street side, and still quiet.
No free wi-fi, but computer in the lobby (1 pound/20 min). Froze, but unplugging and plugging back in fixed that. Starbucks, Pret very close. Didn't feel like a hotel, but almost like an apartment. Not the Ritz, but all in all a very positive experience.

Comfortable & Convenient

Myself and my 3 teenage sons stayed in an apartment room which consisted of two large bedrooms (one with a desk and easy chairs) and a small kitchen. We were surprised at the size of the rooms - they were very large with plenty of space to spread out. We loved the kitchen which had a fridge and microwave and plenty of cutlery and crockery. There was a Sainsbury's local just up the road so it was very easy to cater for yourself if you didn't want to dine out. The continental breakfast was very nice and the staff were pleasant and helpful. The decor and carpets in the public areas were a little bit shabby but the general feel of the hotel was very clean and comfortable. It is also convenient for Oxford street and other places of interest. I would definitely stay here again.

Fair price in a good location

The hotel is well located, close to public transport, Oxford Circus, coffee shops and restaurants, parkland and to the city centre. There are no washing machine or dryers in the rooms or in the hotel. The Hotel laundry service was very expensive. We used a local laundromat for 5 pounds a wash and dry. Also, there is no stove or oven in the kitchen, only a microwave. Breakfast was plain, but there were ample places for breakfast nearby. The restaurant and housekeeping staff were very friendly and welcoming. Some of the Reception staff however were distant and seemed reluctant to assist and were not very good at greeting people as they entered the hotel.

Booked this hotel due to the closeness to the location of a course I was attending in London. The entrance and reception were ok but once you got to your room it was a different story. The room was in desperate need of a clean and a good lick of paint.

Not what I booked

I arrived to be told that there had been a mix up with my room and that instead of a standard single I'd have to stay in a makeshift room in the basement. I was shown it before committing to the booking. No en suite, very noisy and two single beds shoved together to make a double. I was given a discounted rate to reflect the quality of the room, and the receptionist was very apologetic and friendly, but I was still disappointed. Not sure if it was lateroom's mix up or the hotel's bad organisation, but a call to explain the problem would have been better customer service rather than arriving and having no time to find an alternative solution.

Where is the lounge?

The accommodation description for the apartment said two bedrooms and a lounge. However the apartment was really two hotel bedrooms and a small , ill equipped kitchen. Renovations were going on elsewhere in the hotel and were blamed for no hot water on the first morning. Not very funny when 4 of you are wanting showers, 2 of the 4 being teenagers who found the idea of having a cold shower quite intolerable! Furnishings were worn and old. I would hope the apartment we were given is next on the list for renovation. The cost was quite reasonable for such a central location, but the reason was evident once you got past the plush reception area. All in all, probably value for money had there been hot water all the time, but wish we had found somewhere else. Very unusual for a hotel, they had wanted payment on arrival, alarm bells should have rung then, once you have paid you are loathe to walk out and let them keep the money.

Got its act together

There are one or two reviews of this hotel which mention shabiness. I suspect that the promised refurbishment is having an effect because we found a well appointed, smart place with a good, clean and well decorated room. Breakfast was fine. Good location with some general shops and a pub or two nearby. We were at Wembley to see Carlisle finally win a Cup Final, quite handy with a walk to Baker Street tube, and the hotel is a reasonable walk from Kings Cross on a decent day (oh, and the Euston Flyer pub between St Pancras and Euston Stations is good for food and beer, by the way).

Ok for one night

It's in central London, close to Oxford Circus so for the price the place was OK.
Interior is dated, looks like it was styled in the 1930s and hasn't changed much since.
The sound of the underground is noticeable, the vibrations can be felt as the pass.
Still, the place was perfectly located for my requirements so and for 1 night it was acceptable.

If you're not fussy, worth a look!

I stop in London regularly for business. The Astor Court is a simple, fairly old hotel just off Great Portland Street. Location is ideal for central London. I was working in Bloomsbury, so was only a 20min walk away down Oxford St. The accomodation itself was quite dated, but had a lot of character. It was clean and served the purpose. The only downsides are that if you are pretty sensitive to noise then the street noise can be distracting (only if you are sensitive to it however!). The food was also pretty basic, with breakfast being cereal, croissants or danish cakes. However if you are not fussy and merely need it as a base, then I would certainly take this hotel into consideration.

Asset very tired wished I had read reviews before booking

The hotel is in need of a makeover. The photos reviewing this hotel are indeed very flattering. The breakfast did not fare any better stale croissants nice.
Be careful of the trouser presses in the rooms the model Bentley Trouser Press CH 535. They do not have a timer or cut out switch and therefore could be potentially dangerous.
I am not too sure with regards to HSE but I suspect there should be some form of cut of switch if over heat is detected. For sure a risk assessment of this product is required as a minimum and I have advised the Hotel Generla Manager of this point. Would be good for a representative from Late Rooms to follow this up.

Chose the hotel for location as I was working in the area and it suits my needs perfectly.
Lots of space, arm chair, desk and chair, broadband, TV, big comfy double bed, separate bath/shower and loo, nice and warm. The hotel 'does what it says on the tin', its a converted Edwardian Gentlemans's club in a great location. If you are looking for boutique luxury, chi-chi toiletries, air con and a mini-bar it's not for you.
