Functional, budget accommodation

My partner and I stayed over night at the Arriva Hotel as she had an appointment at the Royal Ear, Nose and Throat hospital. The hotel room was clean and warm and the man on reception was friendly.
We were after a cheap and clean place to sleep in and nothing more, so in this regard the hotel fit the bill. Only one thin pillow per person was provided as standard, which didn't make for the most comfortable sleeping experience. Breakfast was served from 7.30am onwards, which I thought a little late, so we did not get to sample it.
Overall, for a short over night stay, in close proximity to Kings Cross - St Pancras, the hotel is okay. It is certainly not the place for a romantic weekend away or a few days business travel.

Good location, but filthy

Distance from Kings cross and location in a relatively quiet street make this a great location. However, owners seem to value dirt as high priority in their service policy, so abundance of that is served to guests. As this is priced similarly to the cheap chains (travelodge etc), I would highly recommend avoiding this hotel and going for the cleaner options. Joys included hairs from previous customers all over bathroom, a filthy carpet (bring flip flops to avoid contamination), dubious looking sheet on the bed etc.

Stayed in very small double bed en suite room which was on the ground floor facing main Road. Could not sleep without earplugs and pillow over my head due to constant traffic noise. Breakfast very basic and on the whole I thought my stay was not value for money, bearing in mind the price for a room and the overall quality of the hotel.

Location was a good point

I am finding hotels in London are really letting themselves down as the introduction for tourists. This room was clean but very small and dated. The view out of the window included mouldy mattresses in the back yard. Breakfast was in the basement and only continental. Staff there were friendly and efficient. For one hundred and twenty pounds a night I would have liked a nicer room.

If sleeping rough is not an option

It is not all bad. The staff at the front desk were friendly. It is close to King's Cross, so on the direct tube line to Heathrow. One can walk straight down Gray's Inn Road to the City.
On the other hand, on a sultry day in July the rooms were like saunas. The rubbish bins had not been emptied since the previous occupant left. My daughter claims that she heard scratching in the walls.
There wasn't room to swing a dead cat, but that is normal for a London hotel.

Breakfast was a bizarre experince!

Tiny room worsened by full size and empty fridge in the way between the bed and the loo ! difficult to negotiate at night! Full size kettle didnt fit under that tap so had to fill cup by cup..the bed against the outside wall under draughty window so a cold night. Breakfast was farsical enough to be amusing with plastic cheese slices and triangles of processed ham baskets of toast on the table, no one seems to be in charge. staff serve you only on demand and it seemed inbetween eating their own breakfasts

Poor Breakfast

We got to the hotel at 23:00 and were intending on leaving at 07:30 the next morning and had to pay £60 for the night. The only reason we chose the hotel was due to it being the cheapest we could find. The included Breakfast was terrible. Coco pops, corn flakes, ham, cheese and horrible toast.
The breakfast room staff were very rude. The only positive was the helpfulness of the receptionist on the morning we left. HSe helped us find our way to St Pancras station.

Convenient to St Pancras, comfortable and friendly

We stayed on two separate occasions within the space of a week and found that the hotel was basic but comfortable and friendly. The rate per night was competitive. Ideal for travellers using the St Pancras(Eurostar) /King's Cross rail stations being only a ten-minute walk away. The reception staff were courteous and helpful. If in future my wife and I are in London, we would use this hotel again.

Although the room was clean, from a safety point of view there were certain inadequacies - on entering the room it was dark, immediately behind the door were 3 steps which could not be seen. Unfortunately I was not forewarned about the steps and fell down them, narrowly avoiding a wardrobe located at the bottom and to one side (luckily I fell the other side otherwise it could have been much worse). I did receive an apology but there should have at least been a warning notice before entering the room. The smoke alarm appeared to be operational (light blinking) however it was covered by a clear plastic bag so probably would not have actually worked! There was no plug in the bathroom sink and the headstead for one of the beds wasn't actually attached to the bed, instead just leaning up against the back wall. On the plus side it was clean and the room temperature could be easily controlled.

Basic, clean, fine for overnight stay

The room was decent for a last minute, one night only stay, but I wouldn't have wanted to stay longer. Everything was clean, but there was a rather nasty smell in the reception area. The room was small, but again, fine for 1 night. Though it was hot and as it didn't have any AC, we had to have the window open overnight, which meant very little sleep due to all the traffic noise. Breakfast was basic; tea, coffee, cereal, yogurt, toast, and some ham and cheese.

Perfectly adequate for a short stay. Handy transport links, buses, tube, etc. Wouldn't recommend for a holiday, but if you want somewhere clean, quiet and close to city centre for show, sightseeing, shopping for 3 or 4 nights can't fault it. Breakfast limited, toast, cereal, yoghurt, juices, tea and coffee - no full english, but what do you expect for the price. I would stay here again.

For a cheap and cheerful way to stay in the centre of london, cant be beat!

When you consider the relative price, the place was excellent. The rooms were clean (spotless) and contained basic facilities (TV, Bed, Ensuite) and the breakfast basic but darn good coffee.
Probably not the place you'd book to impress a date but if you simply want somewhere to stay in the heart of london that wont break the bank, highly recommended.

Never again

After my first stay I couldn't see what people were complaining about. I thought I'd found a good cheap overnight stay for catching early Eurostars. However this stay was bad: chipped glasses, teapots and cups, inside of teapot not cleaned in a long time, cracked window pane in one of the bedrooms. Worst of all was the Rentokill box in the other bedroom. Especially as my daughter had moved it, to get to the radiator control, before she saw what it was and the 'do not touch' notice on it
