great location, bright, modern if a bit posy or maybe that's an age thing, but, don't expect to sleep in, the plumbing is the noisiest ever, it all starts as soon as someone starts showering. i understand it's eco-friendly but it wasn't the most relaxing break we've had.

We chose the Andaz as I had experienced...
We chose the Andaz as I had experienced nothing but excellence in the Hyatt Hotels when travelling abroad. Unfortunately we were sorely dissapointed! .Definately not equalling the standards of other Hyatt Hotels.
We arrived later than our booked ETA only to be informed after a lengthy wait our room was not ready. We returned some 4 hours later (4.50pm) to be informed again our room was not ready.
The absence of a reception with traditional checking in/out clearly does not work. Guests were milling around looking lost and it was difficult to differentiate between staff and guests.
While staff were nothing but polite and friendly, offering a complimentary drink whilst we awaited our room the presence of our 9 year old daughter escaped their attention and the venue for our drinks was not appropriate.
The room, whilst clean and modern, did not meet our expectations or experience of a 5 star hotel. To be blunt we are not sure how this hotel achieved this rating and our only satisfaction was the excxellent location.

The hotel was great, but the staff didn't seem to know entirely what was going on. A trendy 'no-desk' check-in leaves everyone confused about who was first and we had to produce proof of the package we'd bought, before we could get the inclusive breakfast.

Reading through the reviews before our arrival I was a little worried that the hotel might have been a little pretentious. However the reality was far from this. The room was amazing with views over the internal of Liverpool Street Station. The inclusive tapas selection was excellent, as was breakast. All the associated restaurants and bars looked excellent, although they were mostly shut on the Sunday night. The hotel is a great place to stay for couples, we had a great time playing in it. Definitley recommend it, great staff. Make sure you go for a meal at the Vietgrill on the Kingsland Road, and easy 15 minute walk away. The set meal is amazing!

Hotel was fantastic, we couldn't fault it.....however, when we came to check out the hotel had added VAT on to the amount we expected to pay which was 28. This may not seem much but we expected to pay the price quoted on late rooms as there was no mention of additional costs in the literature.I have never had VAT added on to a bill before when staying at other hotels. I'm in the process of writing to them about this.

Arrived with the Friday end of week drink's in full swing, so very busy and bustling, just like the neighbourhood ! Excellent arrival into the "living room" Our room was bright & has all the facilities described. We did eat out in the evening. so have no experience of the evening service. The breakfast service is excellent, not self service, a la cart and is open till 11:45 in the morning, which is excellent for us later risers. The quirky local quotes dottted around re-inforce the different nature of this from other hotels. Customer service is very good (We had a problem with a special offer) which was addressed quickly, although I am expecting the complimentary champage through the post any day :-) The mini-bar has a great choice of cold drinks, and my only criticism is my preference for a cup of tea in bed in the morning, which you will have to get from room service. In summary you get what you pay for sdervice and quality

Often 5 star hotels in London are disappointing, overpriced, outdated and give poor service. Not the Andaz! Recently renovated to an amazing spec, the Andaz is one of the nicest modern 5 star hotels I have stayed in ( I do over 50 nights per year in hotels worldwide). The style is a modern minimalist that is blended well with the historic building the hotel occupies. The service was excellent, the rooms fantastic, as was the selections of restaurants and bars. Our stay included a free non-alcoholic mini bar, ironing service, in-house movies, wi fi , and a compemently non-alcoholic guest bar in the reception (they call the living room). We had champagne and sea food in the champagne bar which was reasonably priced (for London) and breakfast was al a carte and included in the price. The only issue we had was the noise from the hallway came into the room as people went past and the staff were very keen to clean the room in the morning while we were trying to sleep in. Our fault for not putting the Do Not Disturb sign on. All up I would give this place a 9/10, and I think I have found my new favorite hotel in London.

Standard room was fairly small and did not have an opening window, although the airconditioning did work effectively if not with slightly more noise than I would expect. Free movies and music a gread idea. Fruit juice also a nice idea but no tea and coffe making facilities. Breakfast was good (and included in the room price - thankfully considering the apparent cost), although service and atmosphere not quite what one would expect for a 5 star hotel. In all, a very pleasant stay.

The air conditioning control was confusing, apparently set at 0 degrees C, which could be adjusted by +/- 1, 2 or 3 degrees. Presumably the 0 degrees C was in fact a predetermined temperature, but nowhere was there any explanation of this.
Our daughter booked and payed for the room in advance, as a present, yet we were presented with a bill. This matter was unable to be sorted out before we left and thus remains to be resolved.

We booked to stay here on a Friday night as we were attending a leaving party in London and didn't want to travel home late. My girlfriend checked into the hotel early and was offered a glass of champagne while she waited for the room to become available. An excellent start! The room was beautiful with a very comfortable bed and very good facilities. The bathroom was spotless with a huge, deep bath and a great shower. Unfortunately we didn't get to try the breakfast (included in price) as we were still feeling the effects of the night before. In light of this, we called guest services to arranga a late checkout and they couldn't have been more accommodating. In short, a first class hotel with service to match.

A stylish hotel in a great location. Rooms are small but elegant. They mainly look out onto an atrium, so less view, but more silence. The cooling system wasn't quite adequate for a good night's sleep. Free minibar (water and juice drinks) was a great bonus. Complimentary breakfast in a New York-style diner two doors down from the hotel. Good range of options, but not executed to the standard that the indicated prices would warrant for anyone actually paying.

We were flying to London City so this hotel was on the "right side" of London for us - we got off at Bank and walked - not far. On this occasion, we took the bus a lot - Liverpool Street station of course, is right next door to the hotel and the buses were frequent . We were coming for a special birthday treat and I mentioned this in my e-mail - on checking in, we were upgraded which was a nice touch. We ate twice in the Terminus restaurant - for dinner, the menu was not huge, however we managed to find something and the food was tasty. We had breakfast on the Sunday morning - the restaurant was livelier than the night before and had a good choice. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay and would book again. Staff were exceptionally friendly.

The valet car parking is definitely worthwhile for 10 extra but make sure that you book it beforehand. The hotel is lovely and all the staff very helpful and friendly. I think one of the reception staff was new and took ages to check us out but apart from that everything was fine. Very convenient location. We had cocktails in Aurora (peaceful) and then went to the Champagne Bar (busy on Friday night) - both were good, pretty expensive but worth the money. We had a Queen double room and it was quite large with a bath. We didn't hear any noise from anyone else. TV is difficult to work unless you want to pay for anything - CDs are through the TV for 3 so probably best to bring your own! I would definitely stay here again, very luxurious and not that much more expensive than a budget hotel in London if you get a good deal on Late Rooms...

The decor was modern but smart with plasma TV, the beds and pillows comfortable and the bathroom very clean with great shower. All you need after a hard day on your feet.
The added advantage of being located in the financial quarter is that there are a lot of police and cameras around for top security and safety on the streets in the evenings.
I would definately be staying here again either for business or pleasure and would recomend it to anyone as a good base to see London.

regretably our expectations & experiences of 5 star hotels are above what they offered, our room was too cold and the expensive high tech climate control system meant that the temp could only be raised by 3 degrees, which still didnt warm the room sufficiently, good job the duvet was very nice, also the toilet broke and the sink blocked along with half of the hotel for 4 hours, not good for a travelodge let alone 5 stars. We only paid 120, ie weekend rate, glad i didnt waste 400+ in the week.
So if they fix the plumbing - and the air con ...... worth 120, but not more than 150 as you will feel over charged.
good bits - great location, marvelous lobby, valet parking worth every penny, nice beds

Fantastic hotel. Rooms were very large for a London hotel, clean, comfortable with exceptionally comfortable beds. Service was great, and the breakfast was awesome both in terms of size and quality. We also had a meal in the restaurant which was lovely. Portion sizes were generous but not overly large, and cooked to perfection. I've stayed in some of the larger-named 'brand' hotels in London, and this knocks the socks off them. A truly memorable visit, and one that i intend on repeating whenever I need a place to stay overnight in London.

My wife and I used this hotel as we needed to be up and away early the following morning to Essex to pick up our children from their Grand-Parents (a rare chance for us to have a night out by ourselves!) and the proximity of the hotel to the mainline stations was a significant bonus, not that you would have been aware of any train noise! We only used the hotel as a "stop-over" and therefore could not comment on any of the other services available as we did not use them, but surrice to say, the room was superb. All of the items that would need when travelling light were there, hair dryers, shampoos, soaps, fluffy towels and robes and the most luxurious sheets on the bed!! We were very fortunate to have been offered a great deal by using Late Rooms so the hotel was fantastic value for money. Throughly recommended.

Outstanding value for a weekend break. The location was great for us as we needed a base close to the City and Spitalfields for visiting our Son. Although quiet at weekends, the area has much to offer for those looking for more than the usual tourist sites.
The locatuion is opposite Liverpool Street Tube and Mainline station and was perfect. A special mention to the staff who were helpful, cheerful and professional. Hola Paco de Valencia y Ricardo de Venezuala.
We took three rooms for a mixed age group ( Twenties, Fifties and my 75 Year old Mother in Law ) and the hotel was great for us all. Although possibly difficult to implement, weekend prices on the minibar would be a good idea as those of us at weekends whilst appreciative of the fact that we are getting 4 star quality tend to religiously avoid the use of it. Now if I had had an expense account.....!
A word to others - please dont go here too often , Hyatt might put the weekend prices up :)

The hotel could not be more convenient for Liverpool Street Station, and had a classy contemporary feel to it. My only gripe was that I phoned in the morning to ask if an early check-in was possible and was assured that this would be fine. However when I arrived at 1pm I was told that there would be at least an hour's wait for a room, and they had no record of my earlier request. This meant that once I managed to get a room I had to get changed for a wedding in about 2 minutes flat! The room was fine though - nice sheets, good information packs. But I did miss tea and coffee making facilities and an iron and ironing board.

This was a disappontment in an otherwisw excwllent stay.

I was quite amazed that the bar closed for residents at 1am & that unless you paid your room bill by credit card, NOT DEBIT CARD, you could not charge anything to your room!! This was a major pain, because you had to draw cash out of a cash machine across the road to pay for anything! & my company only have debit cards, so I will now have to write out a claims form and submit the receipts, this in turn costs us money as the bank charge us to draw cash, which defeats the object of a debit card ! So I will not be staying at the Great Eastern again. Too much hassle

Fantastic value for money. We were upgraded to a King Room and all I can say is wow. The room was massive! The service was fantastic, and the overall experience was second to none. Highly, highly recommend this hotel!!.........Only caveat to that is parking! Book in advance or expect a twenty minute walk to the carpark!!!

We would recommend the hotel for its great location. Would suggest that people eat elsewhere as food was terribly overpriced-
22.50 for a cooked breakfast-they're having a laugh!

The Great Eastern is fabulous. Modern lovely hotel with not too high prices (if booked through Laterooms). Have stayed twice and enjoyed it every time. Only complaint is that breakfast is very expensive but oh well, in for a penny, in for a pound...
It's not easy to get a hotel right but the Great Eastern manages it with apparent ease. Wonderful design, friendly and efficient service, great food and probably the best bathroom I've ever seen in a hotel!! Will definitely stay again.

The hotel is conveniently placed directly next to Liverpool Street station close to Londons top attractions or within easy reach of them. The rooms were well presented and were shown to our room as it was our first visit which was a nice touch. Regrettably there was a party that night and were allocated internal rooms which faced out directly over the atrium area where the party was held which meant that it was very noisy until it finished in the early hours. Perhaps the hotel should warn guests in this is going on and allocate rooms accordingly. There was only one pair of guest slipers and no mosituriser which was dissappointing after the bath/shower. The choice of restaurants looked good but decided to try East end hospitality and went to Brick lane for a curry. Overall a good hotel but would be more specific when booking next time.

Excellent hotel, and very good value for money compared to other hotels that we looked at (stayed New Year's Eve) .
Can't comment on restaurants, bars etc as they were closed on New Year's Eve, but the room was very nice and clean - the widescreen TV, DVD player and stereo in the room were a surprise and more than we were used to.
The location of the hotel was perfect for getting around the city, being approximately 100 yards from Liverpool St station made it easy to find.
Very modern hotel very clean and bright, breakfast expensive - there are lots of places around Spitalfields to eat if that puts you off. The best part about the room was the bed- beautiful linen and duvet. Room temprature controls were perfect too ( unlike many hotels I have stayed in. The hotel is in a perfect central location for the City area, not far from Tower Bridge and many other landmarks. Great for all tube connnections.

Superb from the moment I walked through the door until I left. Quality rooms and facilities. Didnt eat there - breakfast seem a bit pricey but loads of eating places in the area.
Staff extremely helpful and friendly. I would really recommend this hotel to anyone - I know I will be going there again!
One word of warming!!!!!!!!!!! Avoid the champagne bar or risk a serious serious hangover!

In terms of moments of truth the first...
In terms of moments of truth, the first one is when you arrive at a hotel. We arrived in a black cab and despite an idle doorman standing outside, no-one opened the cab door or offered to carry our bag into the hotel or to our room, even once we'd checked in.
We'd mentioned that it was our wedding anniversary and so had been upgraded, which was nice, and our room was attractive and tastefully done with a fantastically comfortable huge double bed (check the size, ours was 200 x 200). There's no kettle, which is a pain if you're an instant coffee addict as I am, but I'm sure most people don't mind this.
Room service was ok, although a bit surly on the phone: "I'll see what I can do" was the answer to one, perfectly reasonable request, and they also failed to deliver a newspaper when we asked for it on Sunday (and I wanted to read it WITH breakfast, dammit.) When it did come, after the second time of asking, it was the wrong paper, I wanted The Sunday Times and they brought The News of The World, which isn't the same thing at all. But I hadn't booked these in advance so maybe I'm being extra picky.
Despite these small niggles, The Great Eastern is in a fantastic location and is within strolling distance of the Tate Modern, Brick Lane and lots of central London. It's also fab if, as I do, you love The City during the weekend when it's quiet.
The service lets the Great Eastern down in my opinion: it's a five star hotel with four star service and although I'd have been cross had I paid full price, as long as you get a bargain on Laterooms you'll be happy here. At 120 a night for a huge room in central London I'm not complaining AT ALL, at 500 I might have been.

The service is awful. For the price they charge, you can get a much better room in the City with friendlier and more accommodating staff. The rooms are just ok, and the food in most of their restaurants is very very mediocre.
